I used to run the Omega Stone on my XP machine with no problems, but when I try it on Windows 7, it seems to load OK, but then tells me that "The Omega Stone has stopped working".
I am not entirely surprised, as it is a venerable (2002 vintage) game, but does anyone know if it can be fixed?

I know that I can buy the game online at Bigfish, but I presume that it will not run on my Windows 10 machine either?

Can we assume you are installing from a disk? Have your tried using Compatibility settings set to XP? I've gotten many games older than 2002 working on my Windows 10. All you can do is try and see what happens!

There's a guy over on Amazon in the Omega Stone reviews section who says the game ran on his Windows 10 computer with no tweaking. This does not necessarily mean that it will work for you, but as Drac says you can give it a try and see what happens.

I originally played thie game on my XP computer with no problems, but now I am trying to run it on a Windows 7 laptop.

It appears to (somewhat reluctantly) load OK and I apparently have a full install of the 4 CDs, but when I try to start the game, the computer tells me that "The omega stone has stopped working" - or some such statement.

Does anyone know if there is a way around this problem? Or is it a fundamental incompatability with the age of the game (2002 vintage)

I would assume that a download from Steam or Bigfish into my newer Windows 10 machine would be equally unsuccessful?

I don't know about Big Fish, but Steam and GOG usually tweak the older games to run on newer computers. I seem to remember some previous discussion on getting this game to run. Let me do a search here on GB and see if I can find it. We will need the exact wording of the error message - "or some such" won't help much!

Perhaps you can merge petert's new question into his original post about The Omega Stone, Marian?

Draclvr,

I tried compatibility mode and it seems to be running in some fashion, but not entirely satisfacorily. But it is doing something, which is an advance.
After all if it is running, and as it is all digital, it should not be going wrong, and it must be me doing something wrong. Digital programs either run or they don't: theres no half measures.

I'll try again tomorrow.

What are you going to do with all your tomatoes? At 8lb per plant, that is pushing half a ton of tomatoes.

I obviourly clicked on the wrong XP - it should have been SP3.
Everything seems to be working OK -so far!

Thanks for the tip.

The two Omega Stone threads have been merged.

Glad to hear the game is working now, Peter. wave

Thank you, Marian! That's such good news, Petert! Have fun with the game!

Oh, I'm sure it's more than that with the tomatoes! We give away a lot and we can a lot. I already have 7 quarts of tomato juice and 8 quarts of tomato soup!
