Drac, both of my previous cats ended up having multiple health problems as they got older. They're a lot of work, but so worth it.

The first one, a solid, trusting long-haired calico, would come to me every morning to get her insulin jab. She'd literally just sit beside me and wait for me to give her the shot. In the evening she would sit on my lap so that I could put a cup of Ringer's solution under her neck skin because her kidneys were shot.

Cat number two was hypothyroid and used to get bad UTI's when she got older. In the end her food was more thyroid medication paste than food. And then she had a mini-stroke and went blind, which was heart-breaking. Poor little girl.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

After I have a couple cups of coffee, I'm heading out to the barn to bring in my garlic. Looks like there might be about 5 pounds out there hanging where they were cured. I will shuck the outside layers off and trim off the roots. I use a dry brush to clean them up. I use the majority as dried minced garlic which I then use all year round. It's VERY tedious work to take each clove out of it's covering. I pulse it in a small food processor with a little dry white wine. I could use water, but why when there is wine! Then I spread it out on the trays and put in my trusty old dehydrator. I got about two quarts of dried minced garlic last year, gave away quite a lot and am down to the last of my jar!

Pita is 15 and this is her first UTI, but it may not be her last. She is NOT amused with the special urinary health canned cat food! I'll use her old favorite to her her thyroid meds in her, but she's just going to have to figure this out! I have a barn cat who was not able to be touched and has not seen a vet since she was spayed - 17 years ago! She now lets me pet her and give her a small can of canned cat food. She is the picture of health!

I brought a pot of Bold Sumatra Reserve coffee along with Scottish Breakfast tea and bottled Fiji water this morning.

Chores, projects, gardening, a good book and music are on my docket today
Sounds like a busy day Draclvr ... keeping Pita in my thoughts ... have you named your Barn cat blackkitty

Yes, the barn can was named Squeaky because of her gawd-awful croaky meow! Pita is named for being a certain kind of PAIN!

I wondered if you still had Pita Draclvr and actually almost asked you not long ago. I remember when I had to ask you what that meant when you posted something about her long ago. blush

We once had a cat named Squeak (without the y) because she had a timid little meow. My pesky little cat is named Mona because she used to make a lot of long loud moaning noises when we first brought them all in the house. That was before she was spayed and she wanted to go out carousing.

That sounds like a lot of garlic. I get tired of peeling the cloves at about half a head, if not sooner.

I get tired of peeling cloves too! But once they are dehydrated, that's the last time for another year. I put some in my little spice grinder to make garlic powder too.

We had a big garlic crop this year, too. Last year we chopped it all up really finely and put it in an ice cube tray, which worked really well, and this year we just froze them in a glass jar -- too lazy for all that chopping!

We also have more potatoes than I know what to do with (vats of soup, I guess) and a huge crop of butternut squashes -- again, soup, I think, and maybe a nice vegetarian squash curry for dinner tomorrow night, or maybe spicy roasted squash pasta sauce.

Our neighbours who we share this property with did all the work this year and just brought the vegetables over. They've been awfully good to us since John became too frail to work in the garden. We really lucked out when we bought this place.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

That's why I just use a small food processor! I WISH I had a lot of potatoes and onions too. Both those crops were just horrid this year. I also like to put my onions in a food processor and they dehydrate.

Stayed up late reading, so got up late and am still drinking some of soot's French roast coffee!

We've finally got a lovely day here, so we're planning a boat trip with the neighbours. The humpbacks are still here for another couple of weeks. It'd be wonderful to see them before they leave.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

We managed to get out for a few hours and saw a lone male Orca and , later, four humpbacks, which we stayed with for much of the afternoon. At one point two of them popped right beside out boat, which was thrilling for our neighbours, who had never seen a whale close up.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

It really was wonderful, especially as we have six months of rain ahead of us.

My husband's medications have been tweaked quite a bit and he feels better. Also, the new chemo he's on is supposed to help with pain management, too. All of the medical people we work seem to think there's a bit more life in the old chassis, after all.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Had an early morning wakeup call at an ungodly hour because certain four-legged people around here don't respect their humans. It was a good opportunity to hit the on-line Hudson's Bay sale for my winter wardrobe, though, so I'm all stocked up on wool clothing for the coming colder weather.

Looks like another nice day, so if it's calm we'll go boating again. Otherwise, I'll make a vat of potato-leek soup for the coming week.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

That sounds good, hagatha! I made a carrot leek soup that was pretty good last week. Today, I'm finishing up a roasted vegetable beef and barley soup. 'Tis the season for soup!
