We have what is being described as an "historic" storm today, extremely high winds and drenching rain. I'm sure we'll be losing our power at some point. Unfortunately I have to go out. The wind is strong enough that driving on the highway will be interesting. And my poor hummingbirds will have a terrible time getting to their feeders.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I've been watching weather where you are and it definitely looks ugly. We had severe weather all around us late yesterday. They had been predicting 80 mpg winds and tornados. When I went out to the barn at 7:00 pm, there was lightning all around and the sky was constantly lit up. But all we got right here was a little rain and the wind blew all night. You KNOW something strange is going to happen with the weather when it's 80° on October 24th!

Once again, weeds are my life!

Definitely a dark coffee morning this morning, Soot.

My venturing out is to pick up medications and some stuff for the (hopefully) new kitty -- all necessities, so there's no avoiding it. Fortunately, driving across town here means 15 minutes and almost no traffic -- one of the benefits of living in a one-horse town.

Draclvr, we had a very warm day two days ago, unseasonably so. It was kind of like the eye of the storm -- between one big storm and this one. I almost feel as though we should have wooden shutters to lower over our big plate-glass windows, to batten down the hatches, so to speak, as in the storm scene from Key Largo.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, he is obviously one cool Dude!

We knew someone who had a Maine Coon which would only eat fresh jumbo prawns: if those were not served up on time every evening, he would shred the newspaper and leave the result in his feeding bowl, often also trashing other domestic items... eek lol

Good morning all.

Yes, we find out about the Dude soon.

My Willow know something is up because obviously there's a different energy in the house. It must be a good energy, because she's acting really bouncy and talkative and very, very playful. Also John has been singing for the last three days, so he's obviously looking forward to the new addition. And if we don't get the Dude, there are lots of other mature kitties out there who need homes (we don't want a kitten).

EDIT: So Dude is home and under the bed in our second bedroom, but has already checked out the room and bathroom and seems reasonably happy.

As for our Willow, I presented her with Dude's scent towel, and she rubbed her entire body along it twice. A good start I think.

Definitely sounds like a good start hagatha. It sounds like they will be getting along fine. Let us know when Dude comes out from hiding.

Dude will be fine. He came out for a lengthy head scratch and is now sitting in the window. He's obviously an affectionate little guy.

Good Morning everyone. Dark Sumatra coffee and English Breakfast tea are waiting for you all. Hagatha I'm so glad you are giving Dude a happy home. We have a pet rescue for cats here that matches up senior cats with senior adults....they even have a program that gives a cat to a senior and pays for vet costs, food and litter. If the senior is no longer able to care for the cat they will take him back and find it another home.

We are in the middle of a "NorEaster" here...hopefully we don't lose power. We are expecting very high winds up to 70 miles per hour in some areas.
and we already have 4 inches of rain.

Hope you all enjoy your day! wave

Good morning all: great to hear that Dude and Willow are getting along and that the household is alive with the sound of music (if the quality of John's singing can be so described...) catrub

Good morning, all.

Dude is now hiding in the window behind the curtains but he will approach for head scratches and a purring session as long as it's me. He seems more wary of my husband. Given how his old family were living (two adults and two indoor cats zipped in a tent) all summer, he may have some negative associations with men.

The SPCA pays for a vet visit during the first week after adoption, but I'm going to request a postponement until some trust has been built.

I'm actually not worried about how Willow will behave. She's acting strangely...adult. Calm.

Lex, John has a fine voice. Fortunately.

The horrible weather continues. I was hoping or a break so that I can prune back our Hydrangea, which has gotten far too floppy.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
