Having a problem with the collapsing tunnel. I am at the wall and can plug in the two stones into the holes, but I am unable to get the shield right.
As soon as the shuddering starts, I am unable to access the shield in time to get to the required end - I am always too late. I am unable to right click swiftly enough to get the shield.
Am I doing something wrong, or is my lack of the required dexterity letting me down?

Have you consulted one of the walkthroughs here on GameBoomers?

MaG's walkthrough says this:

Quote

Engraved stone wall: Go forward to the end of the tunnel.

Take the sword and the shield from the ground. Place the shield where it is easily accessible in inventory.

I placed it alone in the transient area. SAVE GAME HERE!

Look at the engraved stone wall and see that it is the same as the 2 pieces of engraved stones of Nostradamus and Philibert. There are 2 holes on the stone wall.

Use the 2 engraved stones from inventory on the holes in the stone wall. Madeleine copies the wall.

The earthquake shakes the tunnel and the tunnel roof starts to collapse.

Immediately, open inventory and take the shield. Move forward to the other end of the tunnel with the shield automatically shielding your head.

There is a second chance given if Madeleine loses consciousness.

I assume you have been given the second chance already?

Let's wait and see if someone else can give you some advice who has actually played the game.

If all else fails, I know where we can get some saved games for Nostradamus.

I have been using the W/T to try and solve my problem, which basically boils down to the fact that am unable to access the inventory in time to advance to the end of the tunnel.
I have been storing the shield as recommended in the Transit area.

I don't know if this is a question of not doing something fast enough or if it is something else.

I hope another player will be along who can clarify the situation.

If not, there are some saved games for Nostradamus that you can download here. If you read through the descriptions, you should be able to find one just past or near where you are now.

Marian,
Thanks for the info. So far, I have been unable to download any of the saved games - perhaps that is something to do with the problem?

Not sure why you can't download any of the saved games - they work just fine for me. When I click on the blue floppy disk that corresponds to the save file that I want, the zip file pops up asking me what I want to do with this file, and then I choose save the file and it is then downloaded - for me, the save file goes to my downloads. This all takes about two or three seconds.

Do you get an error message when you try to download one of them? Or maybe it is downloaded and you don't know where it went on your computer?

Been trying again to go forward in the game, but no success.
Actions are as below.

Get message about collapsing tunnel.
Right click to Inventory.
Left click to grab shield.
Right click put shield up.
Left click to try to move forwards, but I am always too late.

What is the 'second chance if she loses cosciousness?

What this tells me is that if you fail this part of the game and the character loses consciousness, the game will automatically take you back to the beginning of the sequence so that you can try again. It's a handy feature such that you don't constantly have to reload the game when you don't make it.

Maybe watching a YouTube video for this part of the game would help. You would have to figure out which part of the walkthrough you are in, but there is a full play-through of the game here.

Problem solved! I managed to get a video walkthrough working and found that I had already succeeded in what I had been trying to do.
I had thought that I had to get to the END of the tunnel rather than taking just 2 steps forward.
On I go. And thanks for your help, Marian.

Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean your save didn't work? Or that when you load your save, you are at a different place in the game?

Also, GOG does not sell the Nostradamus game.

If needed, there are some saved games for Nostradamus that you can download here.
