Hi UW. Relationships exist between Klein bottles and Mobius strips, but they are not the same. Both are one-sided surfaces; that is, their "inside" is the same as their "outside". However, a Mobius strip has a boundary, whereas a Klein bottle does not. (One may construct a Klein bottle model by appropriately gluing together each boundary of two Mobius strips.)

I'm not sure it's valid to describe a Mobius strip as a closed surface because it has an edge (although the edge itself forms a closed curve). Hence, I would venture to say that 'Klein bottle' is a closer match to the given clue.

I'd also like to note that, for mathematicians, neither of these two surfaces actually exist in reality. There is no such thing as a 2-dimensional surface in our universe; the concept exists only in our mind because all physical surfaces have some thickness. Therefore, the Mobius strips that we construct with materials like paper are not true Mobius strips. They are simply 3D representations of a 2D idea. Likewise, a Klein bottle made of glass is a 3D model of a 4D definition (because, mathematically, the surface has to pass through itself without making a hole).

To manxman's credit, both Felix Klein and August Mobius were German mathematicians.

I think it was Philadelphia, flotsam, but I don't remember the name of the stadium ....

(I will understand if this "half an answer" isn't allowed.)

Great selection, all spot-on. bravo

Sky Arts re-ran that concert a couple of weeks back jb, and I thought at the time he had a very distinctive stance

And Lonnie Denegan in the UK, Joan
