Hello all Adventure Gamers!

Hope your all doing well out there. Does anyone remember Bureau 13? I remember playing this game back when I was seven years old. My Dad had me learn all the commands in MSDOS at the time just get a game to run. This game was one of those. When I got older, I learned that there were actually two versions of the game! One version was DOS and the other version was on CD. The differences between each version was that the DOS version was strictly text while the CD version offered voice-overs, cutscenes, music by Michael Bross. As with some games that were on CD, you can actually listen to the soundtrack from the game. This CD has this feature.

This is a puzzle, adventure game about an ultra-secret organization called Bureau 13, whose operatives investigate paranormal phenomenon. After one member of the organization draws unwanted attention to himself, the Bureau decides to neutralize him by sending two agents on his trail. The game offers many characters to choose from such as thief, priest, mech and vampire etc. Since each character has different skills, each puzzle can be solved in a number of ways, leading to different endings. History Note: One of the first games released by Take 2(Which is now a much larger company) and Gametek(Publisher).

I did do some research on the game and found it's actually based off a science fiction horror tabletop game that was published back in 1992 called Bureau 13: Stalking the Night Fantastic.

What are some of your memories of this game? If you haven't played it, are you interested in playing it? Of course now on modern systems, you have to use DOSBox in order to play it. I found this game to be quite fun and definitely a hidden gem. Moving the characters around can be little a irritating at times.

I have the CD version of the game (will run it with DOSBox) but haven't played it yet. It's good to hear from someone who has. It sounds like a great candidate for GOG and I hope that it shows up there eventually. Meanwhile, thank you for the reminder. It is good to hear your thoughts on the game. I will move it up on my to-play list.

On MobyGames, one of the reviewers says this about the game:

Quote
A very good game that can be played multiple times with different characters and endings, as well as different dialogue.

Thanks for the game info, flamefury42. Sounds interesting but it would have to come to GOG for me to attempt playing it.

I no longer have the game and, to be honest, don't remember much about it. But I did play it a looooooong time ago laugh

I do not remember Bureau 13. I had to do some searching to take a look at this game. Does not look like I would be interested in it from the vids I found. Could be why I dont remember it. Glad you enjoyed it flamefury42. Anyhow take a look:

No, it's certainly not a game for everyone (what is?), but I have heard positive things about it throughout the years as well as negatives. I definitely plan on giving it a try. Some people think it's one of the most underrated adventure games of the 1990s.

If anyone watches a YouTube video of it, be sure to watch the CD (talkie) version. It makes a big difference.
