I am having lots of trouble with Using/setting up an account with them. I did the Captcha at least 4 times and they want to charge for a help subscription. That can't be legitimate, can it?

Thanks,

Hi Laurette, I moved your post over to Glitches. I created my account a long time ago and did not experience any problems like this. If you Google this issue there are plenty of people who have had trouble with the captchas, though.

Let's wait and see what other Steam users have to say about this.

Laurette, you are being scammed. There is no such thing as a charge for a help subscription at Steam. I hope you didn't give them too much personal information.

This is where you set up a Steam account. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the option to sign up and join Steam for free. Let us know if you have any problems... but there is no charge for Steam help.

Thanks, Drac. What Laurette described did not seem right to me either, but I thought I might be misunderstanding her description of a help subscription, although it certainly sounded weird.

Not quite sure how Laurette ended up in this situation in the first place.

Marian, I tried to replicate this myself with no luck. If she still has problems, I'm going to suspect she has malware on her computer which is redirecting her.

Yes, that would certainly be a concern.

Ok. I've uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it, Did a scan first. Tried to open a new account and am told there is a captcha error. Any other suggestions before I pull my hair out! Thanks. PS Is there a phone contact anyone knows?

No, no phone number. Glad you did that scan because there is no such thing as a Steam help "subscription!" Are you using the same email you used for the old account? It may recognize it as being used already. And this may be a silly question, but are you sure you're entering the dreaded captcha correctly? I hate those stupid things.

Have you tried contacting their support? It may be several days before you hear back.

Draclvr I've used same email address and done captcha dozens of times. Thanks. I'll try your link.

Well, I still have hair! Part of the problem was I am using a different computer. Thanks again.

Well! Shame on you for using a different computer! Sheesh... I swear sometimes Steam makes things SO much harder than they have to be. I've started using two-step authentication since they had the hacks and that is actually easier.

Glad you have all your hair! I assumed you knew what you were doing, but had to ask!

Have you played Amnesia: Rebirth? Great story and great game. You can play in Adventure mode or regular scary mode.

I have recently posted a few new ones that flotsam has done a review for. I have to convert to HTML to post them and they are the Adventure Game discussion forum.
