I have been replaying the original Syberia on my Windows 10 laptop, but the game appears to have disappeared.
I had an icon for the game on the desktop, but it has disappeared!

How can I get it back?

I think...

Can you find the game in your programs list by clicking the Windows button in the bottom left corner? If so, click the folder and then right click on the game name and under "more" open file location and then right click the game icon and send to desktop.

I don't know if this works the same with a laptop and if it's a Steam game I believe there are more steps than this.

I think it is a Steam game and I don't know how that works, but googling might provide the answer.

If it's a Steam game I think you follow these steps: EDIT: See my next post about it being a Steam game.

Click on the Windows button, find Windows System on the list; click the folder or arrow on the right and go down a little bit to This PC. Click This PC and you should see your Drives on there. Double lick the Drive that your games are installed on; double click the Steam Library folder; double the Steamapps folder and the doble click the Common folder. You should see your list of games. Double click the game; right click the game .exe icon and Send to desktop to create shortcut.

I hope this info is helpful but even more, I hope Draclvr comes along with a one or two step solution.

I really appreciate your help, oldbroad. We don't know as much as Draclvr, but don't undervalue yourself. At least you have the good heart to step in and try to help, and that means a lot. smile

Actually, if it is a Steam game you can open up your Steam Library and right click on the game and under Manage you can Add a Desktop Icon.

Hopefully, an antivirus program hasn't decided to delete the .exe file, which is a whole different problem.

Trust me, oldbroad, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Especially when I'm so busy right now with German guests for 6 weeks!

A shorter way - if this is a Steam game - is to find Steam in your Start menu. Start menu items are listed alphabetically when you click on the white Windows icon in the lower left. Open Steam, find your game, right click and select "add to desktop."

Oh, Drac, I saw Steam in my Start menu but clicked only once and didn't see games listed so that's why I thought I had to go through the drive. I see now I just had to double click it to get to the Steam Library, same as from my Steam desktop icon.

I thought that I had posted my thanks to old broad yesterday, when I followed her suggestion to find the game, and it worked perfectly, but apparently I didn't.
So thanks again, oldbroad. I am back in the airship on my way .

Oh good, petert! Enjoy the rest of the game!

I'm glad I was able to help somebody for a change!

Interesting postscript to my message of yesterday: it turns out that when I restarted the game, the Saves that I had were the saves from when I played the game in 2020.
All of the saves from this year have disappeared.

Something rotten in the state of Microids.

So, did you play the game in 2020 from Steam? I'm with oldbroad - don't know what to offer here!

I don't know how useful this might be in your situation, but I found an article here explaining how to recover deleted Steam files including saves. It also gives a few reasons on why this might occur in the first place.

It is a GOG game so the Steam trick won't work.

I have several things that I can do if it is urgent that I want to play the game.

1. I have the game on my Windows 7 machine, so I could do it there.
2. I still have the CDs so I could load them into the Windows 10 machine, using an external DVD drive.
3. I still have an old reliable XP machine which I could put back into service.

The question is - How much do I REALLY want to be able to play it again? Maybe life is too short to waste any more time, and I should move forward, perhaps to the new Schizm game or even Syberia 4.

Peter, that is ALWAYS the question when we have issues with games! I don't know many Gameboomers who don't have stacks of unplayed games!
