I would never drink this stuff because it is loaded with sugar, food coloring and other nasty stuff. I thought you were supposed to be cutting down on sugary drinks?

family, ALL those juices are loaded with sugar and food coloring. All you would be doing is adding MORE sugar. If you look at the ingredients in the link you posted, it also has high fructose corn syrup... one of the worst and most unhealthy sources of sugar there are.

Maybe you should try harder to get used to those flavored waters. It's going to be very hard to go from your highly sugared drinks to something else, but it's really the only way to do it. What you're posting is just as bad as the soda.

Yes, when we talked about this before, I said that LaCroix and Bubly might not be to your taste if you are looking for something sweet. You might get used to it, though, and even grow to like it. It is a bit of a change at first, but it sure is a lot better for you.

Have you ever thought about buying a Soda Stream, family? It's a simple device that is easily assembled and used once you get the hang of it.

It would save money over time, and you can buy sugar-free flavoured drops to add to the water. That way you can make your drink fruity and sweet without the calories.

The ones I use are called Mio. They're berry flavoured (I like the cherry flavoured one) and they also have vitamins in them. I drink two litres of Soda Stream water every day, which would be really expensive if it was cans of pop.

hagatha, using Mio is almost equal to drinking lots of soda. It is a chemical cocktail that causes health issues. I use a vitamix blender and throw in fresh cucumbers or berries or lemon/lime juice and make it a whole food flavored water. I fill water bottles full of different flavors when I get in the mood and they are grab and go. 99.99% of the time, I just drink plain water.

family, all those fruit juices you mentioned like Capri Sun and the Welch's Punch should also have warning labels on them.

From what I can find, Mio contains sucralose, Ace-K and Stevia - artificial sweeteners, food coloring and potassium sorbate as a preservative. The one ingredient that gives me pause is propylene glycol. I imagine it is more of a health issue for some people than others.

Water is what I drink 99% of the time. My favorite while I'm up late reading is tomato juice, but it's my own home canned juice with a few shakes of my own hot sauce! But then I'm a little weird!

I know that artificial sweeteners are controversial, but I've used them all my life without any issues. Maybe that's why I'm so well-preserved lol

I know I'm weird, but a glass of ice water is the best thing and I drink it all the time! Sometimes I make iced tea for a change if it's hot outside. I'm enjoying a ginger peach iced tea that is really good now and then.

Keep trying, family! I know it isn't easy to give up sugar. But if you can, you will be so much healthier and maybe even lose some weight!

Or even a tall glass of bubby water with a nice squeeze of lemon or lime or a little bit of fruit juice.

I don't usually chime in on these, family, so I hope this is OK--but I really love Zevia sodas. They're sweetened with Stevia, which is marginally less bad for you than the other no calorie sweeteners. And they let me have my sweet fizzy soda, which otherwise I can't have. I love the root beer version, but it's more like ginger/licorice than usual root beer, so it's not to everyone's taste. But the cola is pretty good.

Good luck, making change is hard!

I wonder if the Zevia soda is local to your area, ChrisMM? We don't have it here in my area of Missouri. At least Stevia is plant based and the other artificial sweeteners are chemicals. I like hagatha's suggestion the best! Hubby drinks ice water with a little bit of lemon or lime juice in it. No sugar or those horrid sugary fruit juices.

ChrisMM, thanks for mentioning Zevia. I will look into it. I have seen it here in my local store but never tried it. wave

Drac, I went to this website here. I typed in a Missouri zip code and quite a few places popped up. Not sure if any of them are close to you, though.

Thanks, Marian. Almost all of them are in St. Louis. Unfortunately, not my local grocery stores.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who only tastes the bitter in Stevia, so the Zevia drinks taste awful to me.

Funny, Stevia has never seemed particularly bitter to me. But I found this article here from 2015 where apparently they had figured out how to reduce the bitter aftertaste of Stevia.

Drac, Amazon sells it too, of course. What don't they sell?? grin

If I needed to drink sweet things, I might try Amazon! Fortunately, I don't even LIKE sweet drinks of any kind.

That is me too for the most part, Drac. And I also weaned myself off diet soda in 2008 and have never looked back.

It is a hard thing to do. I read an article on how a real addiction to carbohydrates is formed if you drink a lot of sugary drinks and eat a lot of carbs and sweets. My husband had to eliminate nearly all of it when he became pre-diabetic. Cutting out his beloved potatoes, ice cream and soda was miserable for him - he said he knows he had withdrawal symptoms! But he was determined to stay away from drugs and diabetes, so kept at it. It took nearly a year to bring his blood sugar down, but he is in the normal range now. He lost 30 pounds because he also cut his portions in half too. The man could eat 3 plates of food! He's a big guy - 6' 6" - but ate like there was no tomorrow!

So, I really feel for family trying to make this change.

Yeah, my grocery stores often carry it but not always? So I have an Amazon subscription for my Zevia Ginger Root Beer. laugh

Agreed--moving away from sweets is really hard! I don't eat much sweet stuff anymore, and I feel a lot better for it, but the transition was challenging. The pandemic actually helped there, because I do a lot less social eating these days. More social walking and less social eating.

Sending cheerleading your way, family!
