After two years of development, Foolish Mortals is seeking funding for its final stretch of development by launching on Kickstarter, and achieved its target in under 24 hours! Alongside it, the fully playable demo has now been released to give a sneak peek at the world of Devil's Rock awaiting the foolish mortals that dare explore it.

Foolish Mortals is a merry & macabre point & click adventure game, inspired by games like Monkey Island and Broken Sword. You’ll take the role of young treasure hunter Murphy McCallan as he explores the mysterious island of Devil's Rock in search of the lost treasure of Bellemore Manor, where decades ago an entire wedding suddenly and mysteriously vanished.

The playable demo drops the player into a mysterious bayou, where a witch doctor aboard The Spirit Queen Riverboat has tasked Murphy with finding five voodoo ingredients for a ghost summoning spell - and just two are left to find. With eight exciting locations, six eccentric characters to talk to, and two chains of perplexing puzzles to solve, the demo is an adventure in its own right!

Our Kickstarter offers a whole collection of exciting rewards to thank backers for supporting us, starting of course with a digital copy of the game at 30% off its planned retail price. Beyond that, inspired by the classic big boxes of the 1990s, we're offering a big box packed with a retro-style manual, jewel-case CD (display only!), and more than a dozen in-universe documents of backstory, lore, and clues, including a voodoo manuscript, death certificate, captain's license, newspaper, magazine, tarot cards, and more! Add-ons even allow you to appear in the game, whether in a headline of the Juniper Parish Gazette newspaper, or as a fully-drawn ghost in the Bellemore Manor ballroom.

Having already achieved its goal, we’re now seeking to add in additional backgrounds, puzzles, animation, translations, and more if we hit our stretch goals!

Ron Gilbert once said Monkey Island was meant to be like riding the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland but being able to "step off the boat" and explore. Foolish Mortals started by wondering what it would be like to step out of your Doombuggy on Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. And inspired by that theme park origin, we've teamed up with theme park scent company AromaPrime, providers of themed smells to attractions including LEGOLAND and Madame Tussauds to produce a collection of scents inspired by the game: SPECTRAL SCENTS OF THE DEVIL'S ROCK PARFUMERIE! For the first time since Leather Goddesses of Phobos' scratch 'n' sniff card in 1986 and Leisure Suit Larry 7’s CyberSniff 2000, you'll actually be able to smell a point & click adventure!

We can't wait to invite people to the island to help manifest the story of Bellemore Manor - till death do us part!

The full collection of FOOLISH MORTALS rewards available through the Kickstarter!

Thanks Ana! This looks like it will be a good game and the Kickstarter is already half funded.
