Thanks Marian!

Apparently, this is from the Moontrain devs. The review mentioned them so I did some Googling. I was hoping to find a trailer but didn't.

Yes, this game is from Dragonseye Studio, who also did the second Tearstone game.

From their website:

Quote
Out of Time is a puzzle adventure with unique and fun HO scenes. The team that worked on this are young people and this is their first project for Dragonseye.

Don't know if anyone has heard of this; it's gotten mixed reviews on BFG.

I'm stuck where you are supposed to cross a lake on ice. There's a tree that's about to fall, but I can't figure out how to do it. I have rope, a hook, gun power, a small cannonball, and a torch. Nothing works. It allows me to go to the next scene which shows a sled by 2 logs and tells me to slide the sled, which won't move.

Anyone got any ideas?

thanks

Did the strategy guide help at all?

If no one here has played this yet, I would suggest watching a video walkthrough on YouTube to see if that might help you out. wave12

Just downloaded the demo. A gigabyte in under a minute! Remember the old days, when it took all night to download one megabyte?
Anyway, I hope this game was tested more carefully than Moontrain. That one crashed and I was unable to finish it. <Boo-Hoo>

@butterflybabe - hope you get across that lake.

Unfortunately, reviewers say it is buggy but I did buy it in the last BOGO.

I found a video walkthrough which helped a lot, until I to the end. Hard puzzle, won't allow me to skip, so the heck with it. thumbsdown blech

I wish the developers had enlisted the services of someone whose native lanuage is English. Feel free to guess why I say that.

So the final puzzle got me, as it did butterflybabe. It requires extreme dexterity and speed with the mouse, and doesn't have the option to skip. You have to defeat the villain five times; but must restart if he beats you three times. I had to give up. What's worse, I have the collector's edition, which means I will not get to the Bonus chapter.

This game had some good puzzles, and several inventive approaches to hidden object scenes; but the endgame problem overshadows it all. Bad marks. It suggests to me that I should avoid all games from this developer.

That is such a shame that they put a puzzle like that which cannot be skipped. frown12 That type of puzzle is bad enough anyway!

Very unwise of the developers to have not included a skip option for that puzzle. Hopefully they will take note of the displeasure players experience with this.

Having said that, a Big Fish reviewer had the following to say about this last puzzle:

Quote
The end of the first part of the game has you fighting the bad guy and I actually got frustrated and left it for a day, but when I reread the instructions I found that on the medallions you just place the cursor on them and ride the medallion around the shape, rather than try to trace the shape with your mouse cursor.

Could this possibly be the issue with this puzzle?

Well, the stubborn streak in me caused me to give it another go. (Several other goes actually) What I did: opened Control Panel, and went to Mouse properties. Changed the cursor speed several times until finding a setting that made it easier to be accurate. Also selected the "snap to grid" option. That also helped. The final change that allowed me to beat that first challenge was to un-check "Full Screen" and play it in a window. That made everything smaller; allowing for further precision. Whew! Got through the first phase.

The next phase is the one you mention above. "Ride the medallion" sound easier than it is; but after multiple attempts, got through that too.

The final phase is a "find the matching pairs" puzzle. Not hard to do; we're all used to those, right? Of course the objects couldn't just sit there; they get shuffled after each move. Still - a walk in the park compared to the first two struggles.

I know I am babbling, but if the idea of changing the behavior of your mouse helps anyone else get through it, I'll be thrilled.

I still wish they had hired me to correct their bad English, and constant incorrect spelling. santadance

So, were you then able to finish the main game or is there still more puzzling to get through? I'll make note about the mouse and window mode but I really don't like fiddling with that kind of stuff.

Thanks!

I did end up downloading the game yesterday so it is in line to be tackled, hopefully fairly soon.

Yes - finished the main game. Those three baddie puzzles were the end, followed by a short cutscene. Will venture forth into the bonus game soon. (They call it the CE Chapter.)

Well, I got through the whole thing. Ordinarily I am happy to pay extra for the Collector's Edition. Not so this time. It's just an extra chapter, and not really worth double the cost.

I think it's great that we have a new developer, and that they have a unique style. But - they need more careful coding (I know it's difficult) and they need to spend some time and money on the language. If they are using one of their crew members who "speaks English" that's fine. But then they need to turn over the dialogue, strategy guide, hints, etc. to somebody who grew up speaking English as their primary language, and can spell. Everything needs to be re-written.

I was wondering if the CE was worth it or not. The bonus chapter in Moontrain was very, very short. I did still spring for the CE during a BOGO sale though.

Thanks for all your info about the game, Tally HO! newyear
