Hi I hope you may be able to steer me in the right direction.
I have renewed Norton security as it was due for renewal .Never went for their automatic £49 and bought a download from amazon for £15 and installed it.
It will not let me access Steam Store. I can play my games but it will not let me in the store. I thought I saw a screen telling me I may not access Steam.
Do I have to contact them or Steam or is there an easy fix.
Regards
Maggsie

I don't use Norton for this reason. I believe there is a way to go into Norton and tell it to make an exception for the Steam store. Try opening Norton and looking in the settings for a way to do this. Do you use the Norton firewall?

I don't have any "exclusion" problems with Norton.

Maybe this will help ....

Add or remove a process from Data Protector exclusion

1. Open your Norton device security product.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.
2. In the Norton product main window, click Settings > Antivirus.
3. In the Antivirus window, click the Data Protector tab.
4. In the Data Protector row, move the On/Off switch to On.
5. On the Process Exclusion row, click Configure and do the following:
o To add a process for Data Protector exclusion, click Add and then choose the process.
o To remove a process from Data Protector exclusion, click the process and then click Remove.
6. Click Apply and then click OK.

Thank you, Mad! I figured it was going to take someone who knew what to do!

The last time I used Norton - which was admittedly a long time ago - the exclusions were left and right and so annoying I got rid of it, never to darken it's door again! I found just as good, if not better, protection and never looked back.

Comodo Firewall & Avast for me currently . I didn't know until recently , Avast was purchased my Symantec/Norton some time ago . Think I will try Glasswire & Avira . I tried BitDefender , but it blocked too many of my games .

I did not know about Norton acquiring Avast. Interesting. While looking this up and reading about it more, I also read that Norton acquired Avira for 360 million in 2020.

Yes, both Avast and Avira and now owned by Norton. Jenny100 and I both used and loved a combination of Malwarebytes Pro and Windows Defender. Completely non-instrusive, light on resource use and extremely effective. But we both always emphasized the best anti-virus/anti-malware is the person behind the keyboard!

I'm with Draclvr, re: Malwarebytes Pro and Windows Defender, never had any problems with them, Defender is Included with Windows and Malwerabytes is a good price and one I believe you can get it on sale or not, but worth it's weight in gold. I no longer bother with Expensive Virus systems nor the "Can you trust the Freebies these days, and again like Draclvr said, Defender works flawlessly with Windows and you hardly notice it working in the background and they a regular update.

Very correct about the best security ! I did briefly use Windows Defender , didn't really have any problems , other than it being from Microsoft . I know that AVG was purchased by Avast some years back . Did Symantec purchase AVG as well ?

AVG is not part of Norton as far as I know. AVG was one of the worst of the ones I tried in the past. Defender used to be pretty awful, but is now rated up near the top. Combined with Malwarebytes Pro, it's great unobtrusive protection.

AVG? Hmm!!! I used to use AVG awhile back and it was very good but then for some reason unknown it became Very resource heavy, I would imagine they have made improvements since , look for independent reviews re: AVG Free vs AVG paid and then decide if it's right for you, but again, I find MS + Malwarebytes Premium is the more than enough protection, I also installed these on my Wife's laptop and she never had any problems. I also installed this Combo for several friends computers and I have yet to hear back from any of them catching Any Nasties and they have been using this Combo (WD + M Premium) for at least 3 years, some 4 to 6 years.

Good luck with your quest.

I've been using it for almost 6 years and it's been flawless. But I AM glad that Defender has improved so much - in the beginning it was pretty wimpy and not to be used by itself.
