I have always loved this game and was excited for it when it was announced, and LOVED it from my first playthough, for personal reasons, on my mom's side, I'm german (my mom's maiden name is Kaiser)
I hope this isn't spoilery, since what I have to say next does involve a word listen in the end-game sequence, but here's my insight.
In the ending, Nancy has to enter a word to get untrapped, the word is found scrambled on papers throughout the game. Each time I've played, I didn't realize it was a scrambled word, I thought it was just letters on the corners. Recently, I've been learning some words in German, so I plugged those letters into google translate -- they translate to ESCAPE!
