Bring up your Task Manager - CTRL/ALT/DEL - and scroll down through your processes until you find GOG. GOG is running in the background. End all instances of GOG and then try again. Let me know how it goes!

Have you looked in Control Panel at "Programs and Features" ??
That should show if GOG Galaxy is already installed ..
And if it is you can uninstall it from there - by right clicking on it to get the uninstall option.

It won't matter if GOG is already installed. Mine is installed and when they do an update, the existing installation is simply updated. But it can't be running.
Linda, you should NOT have a message saying this. There are no messages in Task Manager. There are simply tabs at the top. You should automatically be in Processes. Just start scrolling down. You should have many programs that are SUPPOSED to be running in the background - I have 130 processes that are essential to the running of the computer.. Go to the Task Manager again and scroll down the processes. Again, there are no messages in Task Manager - you should see the top part which says Apps and the next part when says Background Processes. That's where you should look.

Just for MY benefit, Draclvr, are we talking about the same program ??
I am referring to GOG Galaxy not GOG itself .. or are they classed as the same thing ??

Good to clarify! Yes, we are talking about GOG Galaxy. I was just abbreviating.

I still say it is easier to "exit" out of the galaxy in your system tray than to worry about looking through the "processes" in the task manager and maybe clicking something you shouldn't. That's what I do, oldbroad.

I agree, oldbroad. I always exit out of Galaxy. But sometimes, there are still instances of it running in Processes even after exiting. Don't know why, but it's happened to me several times.

I just bought a couple of games in GOG's current and very generous sale. But when I came to install them (using Galaxy) I got that message AGAIN about Galaxy "already being running" .... blah .... blah .... Super annoying if it's going to come up every time I buy - and then try to install - a game via Galaxy !!

And I know you did this before, but let's try it again. This happens to me now and then and this is how I fix it. Open up your Task Manager. Scroll down to background processes. They are listed alphabetically. See if you can find anything with Galaxy and do an End Task.
