I thought I would start a thread here covering the subject that started HERE.

I should have been a little bit clearer. The cdrom quit spinning. It did eject

If I were to use an external cd player I would have to load the software to run that player. There is not a whole lot of hard drive space, only 40 meg with some of that taken up.

This is the model I have - 2500/SX33. If you would...take a look at the back side, not a good view. I also have a sound card and video card in those covered slots. I would not even know where to plug it in on this dos machine if this would work. I am guessing I would need some adapters, USB to serial port if made or take a chance on an earlier external make and model

Marian GOG did "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" but that was it. Darkseeds would have been nice, very nice! - Cyberdreams

External drives use a USB port, but I can't tell if that motherboard has one.

There are no motherboard USB ports Drac. The Tandy 2500's came out in the late 70's and USB conversions in the 90's I believe. An external drive for this make and model computer is not gonna be an option I guess

I found the same internal cdrom I have for sale, year make and model. 30 day return which is good. I am sure there are a lot of miles on it just like mine had. I am waiting for a reply on an offer. It would be nice if this worked out, make my dos computer well again and Darkseed up and running

Thank you Marian and Drac

You are most welcome, Orion. I am a big fan of getting older games up and running. Between DOSBox and other emulators, I pretty much can play any old game on my computer now.

Hi Orion if you want to play it on your old tandy machine and not anywhere else then the link provided will not be of interest for you, but if you don't mind playing the game on another machine......
Good luck in finding floppy disc or that person accepting your offer.

Great suggestion, Starcom! Orion, many of our members have purchased games from that store that Starcom linked you to and have had no complaints whatsoever.

My suggestion would be to replace the CD ROM itself - thus allowing you to play more than just Dark Seed.
But I see you are already investigating that option .... so Good Luck !! I hope that alternative works out for you luck

Otherwise .... Over the years I have bought MANY (old) games from Chris (allvideo) that he has tweaked to play on modern machines - and every one of them has worked perfectly !! dance

While the other suggestions are great, I'm gonna land with Mad! If you can replace that old CD ROM, that gives you lots of trouble free gaming on that old machine!

What's great is that you have multiple options. ONE of them has to work!

The option I have gone with for now is Allvideo. I had checked ACG out a few months back when Chris' site was mentioned earlier somewhere here on GB. I had forgotten all about him so thank you for the reminder Starcom

I had 15 games wishlisted on his site. I went ahead and paid for Darkseed and Frankenstein with Tim Curry, you remember this one. I remember playing it back in the day but do not remember too much about it other then I know I liked it. If this works out I will definately get a few more. I opted for the downloads as well as the disks. I have not heard from Chris yet but it is a holiday weekend

I have also not heard from this EBAY seller yet on that cdrom. I'll send another message today. I want to make sure this person is still alive before I fork out $150 for it. Supposedly it has been tested and is good to go. It has a 30 day return which is nice. It is identical to the one I have so this could be a good thing just swapping them out. This model could be the last one available on the planet. I got lucky on this find somehow not finding it anywhere on earlier searches.

I will update when I can, soon I hope. I am ready to plug both games in

Thank you all again for the support and have a nice Labor Day.

Mad and Drac.....keep your fingers crossed on that cdrom. I would love to get that computer up to speed. It is nice to know Chris' games are working Marian and Mad

EDIT: I have contacted that EBAY seller again

The things we gamers won't do for our gaming! I laughed about 10 years ago when Microsoft was blocking DRM and causing our games to not work, some guy on a forum made fun of us and said, "Do you REALLY need to play Day of the Tentacle again? Move on to new games!" He was immediately pounced on and buried under comments about the lengths gamers will go to in order to YES play our old games again!

Sounds like you are on a roll here, Orion! Really hope that CDROM works out.

Your welcom Orion and good luck getting that CD Drive, is this guy the only seller that has the CD Drive you need? Just curious.

Yes Starcom, this seems to be the only guy on the planet who has this exact same cdrom. Still have not heard from him. I don't get it.....

and yes Drac gotta get those older games we all grew up with running if can. I call it "stuck in the past". There is just something about those earlier days when adventures came to light that have become a part of our souls, at least my soul. GOG was huge in helping with some of that addiction, hanging on to those computers another, DosBox, setting up a Vitual Machine and sites like Alviedo all come into play. I wonder if that guy ever got himself dug out

One good note,

Darkseed and Frankenstein are on their way. Chris even sent along Darkseed 2 and Tomb of the Pharaoh as a bonus.

Orion, I think the naysayer about old games was what those of our age call a "young whippersnapper!"
