Is it possible to run Windows 95/98 games on a Windows 10 computer?

Years ago, I installed Virtual PC
on my XP machine, and that enabled me to run my old 95/98 games, but I do not seem to be able to do this on the W10 machine.

Are you saying you cannot install Windows Virtual PC on your Windows 10 computer? Or that you cannot run the old games? Are you getting a error code?

I cannot find how to install Virtual PC on my computer. I cannot run the old games, and 'compatibiity' doesn't seem to work.
And I haven't even got round to getting as far as an error message!

My basic problem is that I find the newer games more difficult for my old brain to comprehend and deal with so I would like to go back and rerun games that I can do.

OK! Thank you for more information. In the meantime, I did a bit of searching and most of what I found said Windows Virtual PC is not supported on Windows 10. HyperV is used on Windows 10 to create a virtual machine. See if any of this makes sense.

Create Virtual Machine with HyperV

When I went to the download location, it said the Windows Virtual PC was no longer available for download.

Maybe someone else with more experience with virtual machines will have some suggestions.

As I recall, when I had Windows98 Virtual PC on my XP machine, I had to load in the original 98 software which came with my first ever PC.
Somone from GB more or less walked me through the installation, but I doubt whether I could find those CDs again.

I looked at the HyperV site, and it doesn't seem very hopeful as far as I am concerned.

Anyway, thanks again for trying.

What games in particular are you interested in playing, Peter?

Yes, for sure you would need to have the original CDs for 95 or 98.

You could look at this site, they talk about Virtual Box and they supply a link to it and from looking at the VB link, they are very active and they keep the VB up to date.
The other way is what Marian asked and depending on the games you want to play, they may be available at GOG and these games will work with W10.
Good luck

Thanks, Starcom! I was hoping you and Marian might weigh in! And I agree... GOG is the best resource for getting old games that play on Windows 10. I would never have been able to replay Shivers 1 without them!

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Virtual Box looked promising, but is "really a job for computer nerds", so it is not for me!!

I will try GOG - which I already use anyway - for individual games.

Petert, GOG is usually the easiest way to get old games to play. And if you watch for sales, you can sometimes get them pretty cheap. I think I paid $1 for Shivers 1!

I agree with Draclvr just said about GOG sales and able to get games dirt cheap. Also, again as Marian asked, and I will add, can you list here the games you would like to play on W10, maybe some of us have successfully played some of these games on W10 with or without any tweaking or patches or No CD fixes, etc.

GOG has the Myst series, all of the Broken Sword games, and Mysterious Island and Return to Mysterious Island. If you wait for a sale, they can be purchased for even less money than the normally listed price.

They are having a sale on the Myst series right now:

Myst series

The Myst 25th Anniversary Collection includes a lot of games and is on sale now here.

Return to Mysterious Island 2 is $1.50 right now and can be found here.

Return to Mysterious Island is discounted the same and can be found here.

GOG has all the Myst games (though possibly not the version you may be looking for) on sale right now for a few days. The 25th Anniversary Collection includes Myst Masterpiece, Real Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III, Myst IV, Myst V, and Uru Complete Chronicles for $15.98 USD. The games are available separately also.

They do have the Mysterious Island games (also both on sale right now) and Broken Sword games too.

The four Rhem games are available on Steam (remastered I think).

Hah! I knew Marian would beat me to it!! lol

Thanks to all for the data.

Sorry I was late in replying, but I have been having trouble with a Macafee scam. I had a message saying that my subscript ion to them was due to run out next month and I should e-mail them to renew.
As I don't use Macafee anti virus, the e-mail is a scam, and it took me a while to sort it out.

Like I say, thanks to all.
