Is the Masterpiece edition of Myst substantially the same as the version that I played about 10 years ago? Or has it changed in terms of complexity?

This discussion has a pretty good explanation. Sounds like it's more visual improvements rather than game play.

It is my understanding that the Myst Masterpiece edition does not change anything in terms of gameplay as compared to Myst but rather offers graphical and audio improvements over the original.

I don't think those 2 Myst versions have changed other then graphics and sound. They are the same story and play just look different. If you are looking for the latest and what I consider the best version of Myst take a look at Cyan's latest Standard/VR version. It is on sale until Dec 11

Steam's

If interested take a look at the latest version's, 2021 release, gameplay. Click on "Myst top right and follow the episodes

Thanks for the info.

In passing, I recall that when playing games on my XP computer, I could have the relevant walkthrough stored on the computer, and I could then access the part of the game that I was stuck on by pressing - I think- Alt Tab and find out what I was missing.

Does that work with W10?

Yes, Alt/Tab works... but it depends on the game. Sometimes pressing the Windows logo key works too.
