I have been going through my "archives" and been playing some games that I did not complete... Nightlong is one of them !!

I remember getting as far as the entering the ZOO and, on my way to the Sphinx, the game crashed to desktop. I replayed it a few times and always the same result so I must have shelved it and forgot about it.

I like finishing my games so I am trying again. New PC - new install - same result !

So here I am, does anyone know how to get around the issue ? or even better, have or know where I can get a Saved Game just past this area ?

It is actually a very good game as were many from this time period.

I thought Mystery Manor had a saved game to get past this, but I am not finding it there now. Nor am I finding the fix I remember by googling for it.

I recall one person saying they got through this crash by putting the game in Windows 95 compatibility mode during this part, but I have no idea if this would still work.

I have the game on my computer but am running it in an emulator with the OS that the game was created for.

I will keep looking around for a possible solution.

I wasn't able to find much out there, but this does seem to be a known problem. I did find a discussion from 2006 with some links to patches, but none of them seemed to work. You can see if you can ferret out something, but the saved game mentioned at Mystery Manor is no longer there.

Nightlong Crash

All the links I tried were also dead ends ! I will try the Win 95 compatibility mode.... if that fails, I have Windows 98 installed on a Virtual Machine -- I will have to do a clean install of Nightlong and hope I get past that point.

I was hoping not to replay it but if it works, I may be able to copy a Saved Game I make from that machine and play it on my new pc or just play it out on the VM.

I like the game very much and would hate to have to shelve it again.

It will take some time but I will post what I find... the saved game may help someone else --- if it works.

We would definitely appreciate it if you would post back with your results!

Good News - I found a "Sphinx fix" patch I must have downloaded on my older PC when I first played this game - IT WORKS !!

I also NOW have a saved game that will get you to the Sphinx without crashing !!


If anyone is in need of this. I will more than happy to get the "Sphinx patch" and/or the saved game to you.

The patch is probably easier to use than a Saved Gave -- All you need to do is replace a file ( nl.exe) in the install directory of the game.

So I will now try to complete this game --- finally !!

We have a "Sewing Room" where we keep game patches at Mystery Manor. There is also an "Attic" where game saves can be found. I guess there used to be a game save for this spot at MM sometime in the past, but it has disappeared.

Thank you Marian - I am continuing the game and it is playing normally - amazing for a game I bought and played in 1998 !! Hopefully - I will check this one off as "Completed" !!

Draclvr - I have been a member here since 2009 - I don't recall seeing the Mystery Manor or Attic sites - I just checked them out !! Very very cool !! I am a professional in the computer field - Windows, MAC and LINUX If I could help in any way - I have saves and or patches I could share.

Do members of GB have the ability to upload fixes and patches ?? I would be more than happy to share whatever I have that could be useful.

I will have to check with the admins here at GB to see if it would be OK to upload those to the database at MM. It would be a shame to lose that patch! It would be great if we could do that here, but I'm not aware of any way to do it. But I will find out!
