Good Thursday morning! Another beautiful day which is just weird in August. Normally we are hot and crispy brown. The WADDB is especially good this chilly morning! But it will be back in the mid-90's by the weekend. I finished my weeding yesterday ahead of the heat!
I've had to eliminate my 4 hummingbird feeders out in the yard and move all 8 feeders under the new hummingbird porch. The huge European hornets had taken over the ones in the yard. They didn't bother me when refilling the feeders, but I would watch them chase and chase the hummers away. Finally, there are just so many of them I had to bring them up here. I hope they go back to eating the fallen pears under the pear tree and don't come up to the porch!
Tonight is the first night of league bowling. Kind of looking forward to it, but not sure if I'm ready yet!
Once again, weeds are my life!

Good Morning Fogfighter, Connie, Draclvr, hagatha and all who get the chance to pop in for Gerry's wide awake double dark brew and Connie's treats. Our temporary cool temps are fading fast and the heat is returning. Whoa, the brew is top-notch this morning Gerry. My yard is a refuge too. My haven filled with birdsong and squirrel chatter where I unplug from the outside world and time slows down. Draclvr, I hope your uninvited guests focus on the fallen fruit and not the relocated feeders. Wishing you a season of strikes and spares! Good luck and have a great time on the lanes with your team! Have a wonderful Thursday everyone.

Good morning all,
It's still raining but supposed to clear up, so I think I'll take a drive up the coast and go to the Comox Costco instead of the Nanaimo Costco, and maybe go for lunch.
I've been looking at pictures of the fire devastation in Jasper. Those poor people, losing everything. It will take years to rebuild.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning Connie, Fogfighter, Draclvr, soot, hagatha and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready...I'm on my 2nd cup! The last few days I have had a doe and her 2 little fawns grazing in my yard. They have been coming about the same time each day and wander around eating the fresh cut grass and nibbling on the shrubs. Fun to watch. Its Friday...enjoy! Gerry

Good morning all, and wishing everyone a good day. This talk of deer and bears prompts me to say this: I had an antlered deer right outside my house the other day and have seen as many as thirteen or so at once. However, we also have bears and I have seen a few while looking through my living room window. You have to be very careful about garbage pick-up day around here because left out overnight with anything tempting for bears in it, it gets strewn all over the place. This happened to me a few times until I wised up.
We also have mountain lions, bobcats, possums, raccoons, coyotes, skunks, and the list goes on. This is why my cat is also strictly an indoor guy - it is just too dangerous for small felines.

Our wildlife here on the peninsula is a little less diverse; black are rare, as are cougars. I hear that we have raccoons, but I've not seen one in the year I've been here. Of course, we did have that otter. Mostly we have deer. Right now our area is crowded with does and fawns.
The other day coming home I found a dead fawn, a very young one, that someone had hit with a vehicle and just left it lying beside the mailboxes. When I phoned the District to get it picked up, they told me they would only pick it up if it was on the road, so I had to move it onto the road. Very sad. It was just a tiny thing, still had its spots. I think it was hit by the young man who raced around the neighbourhood on his loud bike. I haven't heard the bike for days now.

Good morning everyone! Emergency kits of instant coffee and knäckebröd are available in the break room. There are some outdoor cats around so probably not too many large pretators in this mostly peaceful area. Currently 16 Celsius and overcast. Mrs Sun may arrive later today. Happy Saturday GameBoomers

Good Morning Foffighter, Connie, Marian, hagatha, BeaSong, soot, Mad, Draclvr and everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready. Another critter that frequents my yard is "Lonesome George"...(the name given to the lone turkey by my Bill). He saunters around my house and yard...he even looks in the walkout basement windows...I think he sees his reflection! Lonesome George is always alone and has been coming by for many years...mostly as fall approaches. Enjoy your weekend! Gerry

Good Saturday morning! Made hubby his big Saturday morning breakfast and just sitting down with my first cup of WADDB, thank, Gerry!
Missed the break room yesterday as I had to drive him to his eye doctor appointment for an eye injection.
Unfortunately, the European hornets followed the hummingbird feeders to the porch. But they are not on them in the dozens, so I'm able smack them with a large fly swatter. That only stuns them, so I have to run over and stomp on them! I've probably killed at least a dozen of them. I just want them to go back to eating the pears on the ground and I will leave them alone! Living out in the country near the woods, we have lots of wildlife. Deer, turkey, coyotes, foxes, and although we have black bears here, we've never seen one. My step-son lives in town and they have a really big back yard that backs up to a small creek. They had a pair of foxes raise TEN kits this summer! The poor mama fox had to feed them in shifts! They took pictures of all of them every evening and that was their summer entertainment!
Once again, weeds are my life!

Happy Saturday to all! And yes, we have foxes and lots of wild turkeys too. The wild turkeys have been very much in evidence this year. On my way to the mailbox, I sometimes have about thirty wild turkeys trotting ahead of me on the road. They like to hang out on our property from time to time as well. One of the cutest things: the little baby quail. The first time I saw them I thought that perhaps I was seeing things, as it's like seeing a bunch of mini-pencils running along behind their parents. Just adorable. We had a little shower last night which was most welcome. Temps have been in the nineties most of the summer, but yesterday the high was 66 degrees here, something I have never seen in August before. In two or three days we are supposed to be back in the nineties for the Labor Day weekend. BeaSong, that is so cool that your property has been designated as a certified wildlife habitat! And Gerry, your husband was obviously a wonderful person. I enjoy hearing about him.

I am really envious about all the wildlife tales, and although Marian obviously has to be cautious about some of the visitors, living near Yosemite must be well worth it! I have fond memories of spending a week in various (mainly fairly remote) parts of Yosemite back in 1971, living in a fairly basic camper... Those hornets sound like a potentially big problem for you Drac now they have discovered the hummingbird feeders at the house. I hope you are all enjoying the weekend, and that this makes you smile: A woman frustrated because her husband was late coming home from golf yet again, decided to leave a note, reading “I’ve had enough. I’m leaving you. Don’t try to find me.” She then hid under the bed to watch his reaction. Soon after, her husband came home. She could hear him in the kitchen moving around. Then he came into the bedroom. She watched as he made his way over to the dresser and picked up her note and read it. After a moment, her husband wrote something on the note, then picked up the phone and called someone. “She’s finally gone. Yeah it’s about time. I’m on my way. Wear that sexy French nightie. I love you. Can’t wait to see you. We’ll do all the naughty things you love.” He hung up, grabbed his keys and left. As she heard his car drive away, she crawled out from under the bed, furious and heartbroken. With trembling hands, she picked up the note to see what he had written. “I can see your feet. We’re out of bread, be back in five minutes.”

BeaSon, I would be interested to hear what you had to do to get that designation. You can certify your garden here Drac. My yard is a Certified Monarch Waystation. Ana

Good Morning Connie, Fogfighter, Draclvr, hagatha, soot, Marian Lex, Ana, Mad, Space Quest, and everyone...great to see you all in the break Room! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready and waiting! I too live out in the country and have lots of wild life passing thru. For 3 years in a row (first year was during Covid) we had a pair of owls living in a hole of the maple tree right outside the picture window in the living room and got to watch as the babies peeked out and step onto a tree limb and eventually learn to fly! It was amazing to have them so close and a perfect view...watching Father owl bring food to Mama as she sat on the nest and watch Mama owl teach the little ones how to fly. I did capture some photos and a couple videos on my Ipad. I could sit looking out the window and just wait for the action to begin. Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday. Gerry

Good morning everyone. The WADDB tastes wonderful. Already at my third cup. Will probably only have one more today. Better not overdo it. Today 20 degrees and overcast. Mr Rain was here earlier today but he has left for now. Ms Cloud lingers. No wildlife drama outdoors. No doubt there is somewhere, but not in plain sight. Happy Sunday GameBoomers
