Back in 1999, before Benoît Sokal gave us Syberia, he designed a game based on his own comic strip L'Amerzone. It was generally well received, and I played it a few years later. I remember being impressed, the visuals and the environmental elements being what come to mind. What we have now is a remake, enhanced and tweaked, and apart from saying I am still impressed, what follows is based on playing this as a stand alone experience. You play an unnamed freelance journalist, tasked by Mondial Magazine to interview French scientist and explorer Alexandre Valembois about his career. Living as a recluse in a Brittany lighthouse for more than 50 years, your letter of instruction states that despite his unsavoury nature, he remains the only expert on the little-known Amerzone. Arriving at the lighthouse, your intended interview soon becomes so much more. Find out more in flotsam's review of ******** Amerzone, The Explorer's Legacy ********

I played this on the desktop pc Draclvr but I am enjoying the new laptop immensely. I still need to setup Steam (which really means remembering my password ) so I can try a game. That is this weekends task

Oh, sure. I just saw the Windows 11 and forgot that you had gone ahead and done the upgrade. That was a sweet laptop you got and I am anxious to hear how that video card handles gaming!

Great review, flotsam. I played the game and enjoyed it, then I replayed the chapters, to find the things I missed, now they're all at 100%. After playing this one, I tried to replay the original, it didn't last 5 minutes. The remake is so much better.

Another "Thank You" for a well presented review. I have been waiting for this since it's reintroduction was announced and it has been well worth the wait. I am going very slowly and meandering through every scene and reading every word. It's a really pleasant way to spend these gloomy Michigan days in April and May. (A secret wish: if they sell enough of these, perhaps they could take the same approach to Paradise. They could dump "Panther viewpoint" staff and add and clarify the rest. I really liked that game too.)
Anyway.; Thanks to Flotsam for the review; thanks to Gameboomers in general for the many announcements: and thanks to whomever decided to redo this game.
If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

Draclvr: your review made me finally give in and purchase this, since I loved the original so much...and even though I honestly detest NOT having manual saving options. YEs, the game does revert to a few minutes back if I quit out and have to restart later (depending on where the game last autosaved). But it's just SO much fun and gorgeous to behold (even on my 5 yr old Dell desktop PC, it's still fairly well-optimized), and it's fun to figure things out along the way (I"ma t the point where I have to figure out how to launch the first vehicle to leave the lighthouse). But again, to make things clear: YOUR wonderfully-written review CONVINCED me to purchase the game (on Steam), and so far I'm glad I did. Thank you!

I agree, robedits about the last of saving at will. But the review isn't mine, it's flotsam who does our reviews! All I do is convert them to HTML to publish on our website and link to them here.
