Hello Boomers, hope you are all well….it’s been a while. I have some news to share with you. A couple of months after my hubby’s funeral last year I was diagnosed with cancer after a CT scan and an MRI. Doctor told me my cancer is stage 3 and inoperable due to its proximity to other organs and due to my medical history and current health issues they are unable to offer me chemotherapy. I can’t have radiotherapy to treat the tumour but can have it to treat the symptoms eg pain (palliative care).
Being told the diagnosis and limited treatment options so soon after losing hubby sent me to a dark place for a time but I have to accept that it’s happened and can’t be changed. As always, my amazing kids have got my back.

Hello Boomers, thank you all so much for your kind words, thoughts and prayers and for the warm hugs too. I had another consultation with my oncologist. I asked her what would happen in the future with regard to my cancer. Unfortunately nothing can be done to halt its progression or spread, it is incurable. I will be on palliative care which will entail short bursts of radiation to manage pain and bleeding should it recur.
When I had my amputations carried out, I knew they were being done to halt the progression of gangrene and to stop the horrendous pain I was in, light at the end of the tunnel. Well today I’m not seeing that light yet and I wonder if I ever will. I’m trying with all I have to stay positive but I must admit it’s hard. Not having my love and soulmate here with me makes it even harder. I miss him so much.
Sorry for letting go like this and thank you all for ‘listening’.

Mary, my brother in law had both his legs amputated because of the excruciating pain and to stop gangrene. So while I haven't experienced it, I know someone close who has and how much you are enduring.

I think about you every day and hope you can find some peace. Perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel is seeing your love again. You MAKE SURE you come here and "let go" as often as you need to. We are all her to lend a virtual shoulder to lean on.

Hi guys, what lovely people you all are. ….just stopping by to say ‘Hi’. I haven’t had the best of weeks this past week, been in quite a bit of pain so had to phone my GP who issued a script to the pharmacy and I had pain meds within a couple of hours. Our weather here has been extremely hot and sticky which doesn’t suit me at all so I haven’t been out since last weekend. Things have to cool down tomorrow though. My youngest son has been picking me up each Saturday for a few weeks now and we go for lunch then a drive somewhere nice and quiet. His partner had bowel cancer two and a bit years ago for which she had surgery and got the all clear. Sadly, the cancer has come back so chemo and radiotherapy followed by more surgery. My heart goes out to them both.

That’s all my news for now, it’s good to talk.

Hi, Mary! So glad you stopped in. That is quick service for those pain meds, so hope they kick in for your quickly. I heard you were having hot and sticky weather which is not normal for Scotland. Having your son get you out once a week has to be a nice break for you. Sounds like they are having a rough go of it too.

We had a little break from the oppressive heat here for a few days, but it appears it's heading back up to hot and steamy here too.

My dear Gerry, I return your sentiments ten ~fold, Love you I joined this site a long time ago and it was the best decision I ever made. The love and friendship jumped off every page,My friends here have got me through many tough times over the years.
Now to my news, I had a conversation with my oncologist last week, he asked how I did with the radiotherapy and I told him it had worked to stop the bleeding. We then spoke about me going over to palliative care. I will have no more radiotherapy to manage symptoms. The palliative care team will give me stronger pain relief when needed. If the bleeding returns I will have to find another method of coping with it. Then he dropped his bombshell:
My prognosis will be months rather than years
I was so shocked and am still trying to get my head around it I have still so much to live for..
I will post in the diner as and when I am able. I don’t intend to lie down to this or give in.
