Good Saturday morning. Hubby's big breakfast done and now it's time for me to sit here by my open window and listen to the hummingbirds again. Another glorious day ahead. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to spend it pulling weeds again. Between the extreme heat and the kids being here all week, I got way behind.
One nice thing is the tomatoes are coming in! I have one table full of big red tomatoes. I'm thinking BLTs are in our near future!
It's spring. My life is weeds.

Good late Saturday morning to you all! Groceries are put away. This week I'm going to try a salad recipe that consists of ham, butter beans, red bell pepper, red onion, and sun dried tomatoes, dressed with spicy brown mustard, olive oil, and lime juice. (Supposed to be lemon juice but my brother bought limes.) It is also supposed to have some cilantro in it but I don't buy cilantro anymore unless I need a lot of it. I do have some dried so I'll probably put some of that in it. We'll see how it goes. Unfortunately the last couple of times I tried to have some fresh fruit, I ended up throwing half of it out because it went bad, so, no fruit. Makes my ears steam. I hope you each enjoy your day!

Oh, that salad sounds so good, oldbroad! I almost think the lime juice sounds better with those ingredients.

I eat salads a lot, too, but mine are bog standard English Ones .... Lettuce, Tomatoes, Spring Onions, Sliced Cucumber, Hard Boiled Eggs, Sliced Beetroot, sometimes Radish and a few slices of cold meat - which will be whatever meat I've cooked on the day. With a generous dressing of coleslaw and often some potato crisps on the side. Pretty boring for you more exotic eaters

Oh, Mad, I think that sounds heavenly! I love a good fresh garden salad, even sans the meat.
I had one at a local restaurant that I love Friday night. They call it a Shannon Salad. Greens, bacon bits, pecans, blue cheese bits, onions and grilled chicken strips. They toss it in a very light honey mustard dressing.

Good Morning connie, Fogfighter, soot, Draclvr, oldbroad, Marian, Mad and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! Oldbroad your salad sounds good to me too. Like Marian I have a salad every day...I make it with spring greens, tomato, cut up baby swiss cheese, dried cranberries, cut up avocado, artichokes hearts, olives, and top it with mandarin/clementine orange wedges. Dressing is just olive oil and organic lemon juice...sometimes I put fresh strawberries or blueberries in the salad too. By the way oldbroad a good way to have fruit if you can't get it to last is buy frozen fruit. You can get all kinds at the grocery store. I have bought organic strawberries, mango, raspberries, blueberries, etc and they are delicious. I only defrost what I want to have that day. The frozen fruits are great in cereal too or with cottage cheese. Hope you all enjoy a peaceful Sunday! Gerry

Good Morning Cnnie, Fogfighter, Gerry, Draclvr, Mad, Marian, Oldbroad and everyone else who gets the chance to pop in. We love salads here too! We're enjoying cooler weather for a few days (80s feels like 90s) before the heat returns. Time for a litte yard work today and then R&R for the remainder of the day Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday

Good Sunday afternoon. Just being lazy today.. Made a grocery store run in town for more sugar for the hummingbirds. I'm buying it 20 lbs at a time now. There have been at least 3 hatches of new babies and they are really going through the sugar water now.
Just put up another gallon in the feeders and am now sitting out here on the hummingbird porch listening to them and reading. Noisy!

Good morning Fogfighter, Gerry, Draclvr, OldBroad and all who follow. Shocked this morning when I saw our temperature was 69 degrees, oh my but it felt wonderful. It looks like the cooler temps stay for a couple of days ... time will tell. We can use that rain too Fogfighter. Yes Draclvr I can imagine the rucus you're hearing with all the buzzing around. My brother has 30 to 40 hummingbirds and it's incredible to stand behind the feeders and listen to them. Time for a cup of WADDB and a danish. Have a great day everyone.

Good Monday morning. Wasn't it just last week?! More glorious weather ahead, but we too are needing rain.
Hubby tilled up both big gardens - except for the tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, of course - and sowed turnips on Sunday. As there is no rain in the forecast for a long time, he set up his big sprinkler and watered them both in so the seeds could germinate. I love turnips now and then, but these are mostly what they call a "plow down" crop. You plow them back into the ground in the late fall to add more organics to the soil. The deer also love to eat the tops. Bella the Bloodhound also liked turnips... she would dig up some huge ones weighing at least 3 or 4 pounds and drag them into the yard to chew on.
New clothes dryer arriving this morning. I've rather enjoyed hanging everything on the clothesline to dry, but will be glad to have one again.
It's spring. My life is weeds.
