One other thing you could check is whether the IDE ribbon cable might have come loose from the drive - or from the motherboard. Unless you've been moving the computer around, it's sort of unlikely that the cable would have jarred loose, but it's still a possibility. You could also check the power cable, but if the light on front of the drive lights up, it isn't likely to be a power problem.
I had a drive that lasted only 2 months before going kaput. It was under warranty and the store replaced it with the same model drive. The replacement drive lasted only 2 weeks.

Some drives are just not made very well and don't last.
The store agreed to give me part credit off the price of a different model drive, which was more expensive but which still works more than 3 years later.
I wish you luck with the tech support. If nothing else, they may offer you a new drive.
