Good Sunday morning. A very nice warm day ahead for the big rib cook down by the river. The country Catholic church just 3/4 mile from us is having their 77th annual Homecoming Picnic. It's a pretty big deal and they have to run shuttles from a nearby farm as there is not enough parking. They have rides for the kids and serve fried chicken dinners. MUCH beer is consumed from at least 2 beer trucks too!
I think I'm down to only about 10 hummers this morning! The migration is in full swing.

Good Sunday afternoon everyone. I'll be able to move the branches (in sections) if needed OldBroad. Wow Gerry, that's spooky for sure...glad that tree missed you...I guess you were able to walk around it? Yes indeed Fogfigher, glad I wasn't standing there! Not sure how much (hidden) damage there might be Connie, we'll have an inspection after the holiday this week and then I'll know the rest of the story. Draclvr, I imagine your evening temps are the key factor in your hummers heading south for the winter. I'll miss our hummingbird's chittering and wing buzzing when they head south for the winter. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone

Good Morning Fogfighter, connie, Draclvr, soot and everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready. Soot I hope there is no damage to your home from the limb. Removing it sounds like a big job...don't overdo. The tree that fell across the road here went several feet into the woods on both sides of the road so we had to climb over it...no place to walk around it. Hope you all have a peaceful happy Monday! Good Labor Day Monday morning. Well, for here in the US anyway!
BBQ yesterday was also a success - as always lots of good food. But for a change it wasn't hot.
There are maybe 50 hummers out there this morning. I think a lot of them are travelers on their way south. Soot, up until last night our nights have still been quite warm. From what I've read it's all about the daylight length. As the days get shorter, their inner clock knows it's time to start the long migration. I'm always amazed that these tiny creatures fly across the Gulf of Mexico without stopping. They say it's you folks in the south who have your feeders up for them to stock up on resources is what gets them through!

Good morning everyone.
Last night we had the most intense thunder and lightening storm I've seen for a very long time. No rain, though. Dude was outside and obviously got scared and ran away instead of coming home. I had to get up in the night to let him in.
Otherwise, the weather here's been warm but not uncomfortable. My garden is quite sunny but the house itself is in shade and stays cool most of the time. Now the kids will be back in school and the roads quiet for the next few months, which means that places like Rathtrevor Beach will be less crowded and better for walking.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good afternoon OldBroad, Hagatha, Draclvr, Connie, Fogfighter, Gerry and everyone. Yes indeed, thirty days hath September, April May and... Wow, where has the year gone? Gerry, one 'edge' shingle was broken and the siding was whacked loose. The insurance company is sending a contractor over to check. We had siding put over the wood portion of our home many years ago. I can't tell if the facia and/or soffit were damaged as they are covered by the siding...will wait for the expert to take a look. That's nice your brother is caring for the little ones OldBroad. Yes Draclvr, those little hummers are incredibly amazing. The WADDB and bagels were marvelous this morning. Have a wonderful Monday everyone

Good Morning Fogfighter, connie, Draclvr, hagatha, oldbroad, soot, and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is hot, strong and tasty! Connie glad your had a great BBQ and you too Draclvr. That sounds like some serious damage soot. Draclvr you are so good to those traveling hummers...what would they do without you! Oldbroad you can buy frozen fruits that I find are very tasty when fresh fruit is not available. Poor Dude Hagatha...he must have been very happy to be safely home! Fogfighter have you used your home grown garlic yet? Enjoy your day everyone! Gerry

Good Tuesday afternoon. Had to make a grocery run in town this morning. Fogfighter, this looks like a GREAT place to purchase seed garlic in Sweden! They have lots of tips on growing too. I recognize several varieties I can get here in the US too. https://slattergubben.se/lang-EN/products/garlic-for-planting

Good morning Connie, Gerry, Draclvr, Hagatha, Fogfighter, OldBroad and everyone. We have a contractor coming this morning to inspect the roof and attic for damage. It will be nice to get a professional opinion in additional to my TWIT (That's What I'm Thinking) opinion. Time for more WADDB and a bagel. Have a great Wednesday everyone

Good Wednesday morning. This week is seeming to fly by even faster because of the Monday holiday. More beautiful DRY fall weather.
Today, I'm bottling up my first batch of hot sauce. The ground up peppers, garlic and brine have been fermenting for 1 week now. I will test the pH to be sure it's under 4.0 for food safety, then I will put through my magical electric tomato press to just get the liquid. I have to heat it up just to boiling to stop the fermentation process. I steam sterilize my little bottles and VERY carefully use a metal turkey baster to fill them. Then I cap and put on shrink sleeves and add my special labels. My Colorado grandkids go through it like water, so I'm putting on another mash later today.
Finishing up closing the pool today. So sad to see it go for the summer. But since we live in the woods, we get lots of leaves and can't keep up with keeping them out.
We have a professional tree trimming coming this afternoon to give us an estimate on taking some huge limbs off a walnut tree that are hanging over the pool deck.
When life gives you tomatoes, make Bloody Marys.

Good morning (my time) everyone.
Sounds like we're all gearing up for Fall. I've mowed my lawn for the last time, since watering restrictions are now in effect and it's stopped growing.
I've asked for a quote to upgrade my stream and pond into a pondless stream with waterfall and bowl fountain. The birds love the stream part of it, and the pond is a pain to maintain. The cats avoid the water like the plague, so I'm confident that no birds will be harmed, and it will look quite lovely.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
