Quote
Stuttgart, Germany: October 13th 2025 – Developer Smallthing Studios and publisher ININ Games are thrilled to announce that Simon the Sorcerer Origins will be part of Steam Next Fest, starting today at 7 p.m. UTC.

Classic charm meets modern magic in the long-awaited prequel to one of the most iconic adventure games of all time.

During the festival, players will have the exclusive opportunity to experience a playable demo featuring a specific section of Chapter 3 of the game. The demo will be available only on Steam for the duration of the event.

Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a lovingly crafted prequel to the iconic 1993 point-and-click adventure series Simon the Sorcerer. Blending modern puzzle design, hand-painted 2D visuals, and fully voiced storytelling, the game reintroduces Simon’s trademark humor, wit, and magical misadventures for a new generation — while staying true to the charm and personality of the beloved classics.

The full release of Simon the Sorcerer Origins is set for October 28, 2025, on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac, and Linux.

Key Features:

Official Prequel to the Simon the Sorcerer Series – Find out what happened just a few weeks before the first legendary adventure in the 90s!

An intense story – A loving mother, a lively teenager, a forced move and a prophecy. Experience an adventure between emotions and discovery.

New Hand-Drawn Art Style – Discover the Magical World in a completely hand-drawn 90s art style!

Featuring the Original Voice Actor – Enjoy Simon’s legendary sarcastic remarks once again with the voice of Chris Barrie (English) and Erik Borner (German), who brought the character to life with humor in parts I and II.

An adventure between Modern and Point-and-Click Puzzles – Solve challenging puzzles, activate mechanisms, reveal age-old secrets, discover mysterious objects and discuss with unusual characters.

Happy Gaming!

I'm not sure it is exclusively autosave. I played the demo--sort of--they picked some random point to drop the player in, mid-third chapter--and yet the player was expected to somehow know what to do and where to go. Not my idea of a good demo, but the game itself looks ok. Anyway, when I quit there was the option to save.
And while I totally understand personal preferences about games--mine are Mac-ready and point and click...the ability to manually save is pretty far down my list. There are so few fun games for us, ahem, experienced players as it is.

Much as I would like to, I won't be getting this game, anyway, KatieB, unless it becomes available from a different source, as I refuse to deal with Steam.
But considering technical know-how in this day and age, I feel not providing a manual save facility for an Adventure game, to be quite ridiculous rolleyes

Ah, I fear we all block ourselves in so many ways. I like Steam, and I also don't think it's evil. I like the achievements and the camaraderie. I see why they don't sell games outright, because the aforementioned community would trade them. Games are a joyful outlet for me and I have no desire to create angst.

It’s a case of “each to our own”, KatieB.
Steam treated a group of us very badly and none of us have dealt with them since.
But I would hardly say I consider them to be evil.
Good Gracious !!
They are “just another company” and don’t merit any importance in my life.

But I’m happy for you that you enjoy being a client smile

Always healthy to have a dialogue about disagreements. It is what is not happening now in the world.

While I prefer a manual save system, I have played games where the autosaving did not bother me one bit. Voodoo Detective springs to mind. So, I take this auto/manual save business on a case-by-case basis.

I certainly prefer a manual save system because I like to save often but it is not a deal breaker for me at all either. Mostly, autosaves are an issue for me if the game causes me motion sickness. When I feel the need to exit a game, I really would like to be able to save my progress.

I can confirm you can manually save as well 😊

I loved the two Simon games that I played years ago. The games were filled with humor and very challenging puzzles.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.
