I agree 100% with Marian re: phising scam regardless if you got it in an email or not.

Here is some information from Google about this. It appears that if you are in your Google account, you could be asked about this. But never in an email.

Not an email. I think it started last night when I Googled something maybe or looked at something. I was told that my settings had been changed because they cannot verify my age. Today when I clicked the link in Ana's post to a game announcement, it popped up again so I clicked just to see what verification they might possibly need and that is what came up. I did not and would not ever provide any of those bits of information to Google.
I think I might have seen something also about some scam like this.

Just to be clear. I am a senior citizen and eligible for a senior's discount on my property tax but they also required some kind of proof such as my license or state ID. (They didn't ask for this type of information in the past but maybe they figure with the Real ID's required for flying now that everyone will just do that). Guess who will just go ahead and keep paying the full tax instead?

Thanks for the information. I would stay well away from that Google stuff, which is what you are doing. You can't be too careful with things of this nature.

On the other hand, I would provide my driver's license to get a senior discount on my property taxes - assuming this is legitimate, which it sounds like it is. No way would I pass up such a discount.

But I do understand how you feel. It is a jungle out there, and it's only going to get worse.

I know that every bit of my information can probably be found on-line but I am not going to take a picture of my State ID and post it online to ANYBODY.

both makes me wonder and worry. They must have my email address associated with my Google account right? And "checking online data associated with your email address" makes them sound like criminals. They have my birth date already and if they cannot believe that then I guess I will be losing my Google account. ??

I don't know, what do you think about clicking that option - to use my email address? Are they just being polite asking for my permission to snoop into my life?

Thank you, Marian. Since I don't use this email address, they cannot verify my age with it. Is that credit card option safe? I know I'm not doing either of the other two options. Do I need a Google account for my phone or the tablet that I just (finally) purchased but haven't received yet? Do I need it for the gmail?

I believe Google was hacked not too long ago. I am thinking this is bogus even though if I go into my account it is asking for this information. How do I even sign out of Google? I signed in but don't see anyplace to sign out.

I use Google as little as possible. I never use it for searching. But I do have a Gmail address and I have never been asked to verify my age. I never use that address for anything official either. I use my main email address provided by my ISP. I think you are right to be cautious here. I would also NEVER in a million years provide my state ID for anything except for filing my taxes. I was just going to say log out of Google, but I see you already found it.
