I finally purchased a tablet. When I first looked at it (at least a year ago) I had found information about how to set it up and use it but can no longer find that. I bought this because I get most of my books at B&N but can no longer buy physical books due to lack of space in my house. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/no...arnes-noble/1146230592?ean=9780594205166My very first question is going to sound most stupid, I'm sure. 1. Th electrical outlet plug seems to have plastic around it. Do I remove that or leave it on? I'm thinking plugging it in with it on is a hazard? 2. What do I do with it then? I haven't got clue one. Plug it in an electric socket? Plug it into my computer? I guess that is enough to start. I will continue looking for instructions online too. I just don't understand why electronics don't come with instructions!

Thank you Marian. That is the same as what I have. I guess when I said "plug" I should have said "charger" That is how little I understand this stuff. I did find a PDF manual that I had saved on my computer over a year ago as well as some other instructions which may be the same ones or not.
Another stupid question, is the Sim Card already installed or am I missing it in the packaging?
Edit: I just want to say also that I appreciate you describing the separate plug components. It took me a whole year to figure out that I could separate those pieces of my cell phone charger and plug the phone into my computer if I want to.

I see Marian has already got you sorted on the different cables/ends etc. This is a really nice tablet and I think you're going to enjoy it! There is no SIM care in the tablet. It pretty much works like a little laptop. It does have a slot for a 64 GB microSD card if you even need more storage. You can use the internet, watch movies and of course, read books! It offers free support from the B & N bookstore staff, but it appears you'd have to go ask them. I was looking for a way to email, but couldn't find anything. That user manual you downloaded will be the one to refer to. Pretty much nothing comes with printed user manuals any more.
In order to use the tablet, you will need to connect it to your WiFi and set up a B & N online account so you can download books to it.

But what is the first step?
1. I have plugged it into an electric socket to charge. Is that correct? How do I know when it is charged?
2. Once I know it is charged, do I plug it into my computer to set it up and have it connect with Barnes & Noble?

I found this online: You can tell when a Lenovo tablet is charged by checking the on-screen battery icon and percentage, looking for a change in the charging indicator LED, or both. A full charge is indicated by a battery icon that is completely full, the percentage showing \(100\%\), or a change in the LED's color and behavior, such as turning off or changing from red to green or no color at all. I have a Fire tablet, and this is the same for mine. I never thought I had a use for a tablet, but I must admit it's nice to be able to watch YouTube videos or a movie in the evening before I fall asleep, while comfortable in bed. I had zero idea of what I was doing or how to navigate it at first, but after a while I managed to figure out the basics. It looks like a really nice tablet that you got.

Thank you Marian but I'll have to see if the info is helpful or not. When I turn it on I do not see anywhere that it shows a percentage. The battery icon is so small that I'm having trouble seeing it with a magnifying glass. It just appears to have a lightning bolt in it but I don't know what that means. I'm thinking it means it is charging? There is no movement indicating it is charging though. Maybe it means it is charged. I just don't know. And I have no idea what color the LED is or should be. It does say Hi There and Start on the screen.

I'll have to look up the manual for it to see how you tell if it's charged and if you are able to change the display so that it's larger. This is a link to your User Manual. I do see a little icon at the upper right that indicates how full your battery is. It's the same as one on a cell phone. It talks about Google because the operating system on this tablet is Android 13. You asked about a SIM card, but it does not have one. A SIM care is only for mobile phone connectivity and this tablet is WiFi. https://help.barnesandnoble.com/hc/en-us/articles/5599337678619-Lenovo-NOOK-Tablets-Getting-StartedBut as I said earlier, you will have to connect the tablet to the internet through your WiFi in order for it to work. Once you connect to your WiFi, THEN you can log in to your B & N account. Connecting it to your computer won't work.

Well, after 2 hours of trying to set this f'g thing up, I am about to throw it out the window. Just like my phone, the set up may never get finished.
I at least know how to look at things on the phone now. How do I look at anything on this? And how do I keep it on so I can see something for more than 10 seconds? I knew this was a stupid idea!
And, the battery is already running down just from trying to set the thing up. Not what they advertised!
It does not seem to be doing what I told it to do or not do. I chose a setting with 3 icons at the bottom of my screen to go back or home but it didn't take it. Fortunately I was able to find the setting somehow and change it again. Also, I told it NOT to download apps but that is what it is doing now. What apps? I have no clue!
Is there ever any reason to plug it into my computer or is that just a different option for charging it?
Had to Google to find the settings again and found out how to keep the display from shutting off after 10 seconds. And now that the other setting is correct I can figure out how to get to things and then out of those things. It is still installing apps. On 22 of 24. I might not chuck it out the window. We'll see. The main thing is if I can access the internet if/when my computer bites the dust!

From what I understand, this thing is all touch, so it may not be registering your gestures. I assume you have connected it to your WiFi because it is downloading apps from the internet. Those apps it is downloading might be necessary... I don't know. To charge you need to plug it into the wall. Some things will charge up using a computer and some things won't. But there is no reason to plug it into your computer.
Be sure you have your WiFi password. Since you don't use WiFi for your desktop, it is probably printed somewhere on your router.

Thank you both for your help and patience with me, Marian and Draclvr. I know I am difficult to deal with when it comes to this stuff.
I think it was downloading Google Play apps or something. The charge was down to 75% when it finished. I can see the percentage now that I can get to the "home" page. The password is on the router but the tech had also written it down on the service receipt for me. Can you believe, I don't even know where to keep it. That is how cluttered my house has gotten.
Typing is a little easier on the tablet than the phone but looking at the GB forum is not. I was hoping I might use it for more than emergency but probably not. I'll have to see if I can get used to it, maybe pull up a game walkthrough and test out having it near me while I play something. That is one use I'm hoping it will serve.

I don't know if I did something wrong with the set up or what. Then there is this which might be the culprit:
There were 2 scam emails which seem to have contained trojans (I did NOT open the emails) or maybe the PDF's I looked at trying to set up the tablet contained them or something. I am currently running a full virus scan. Norton called them PDF: Malware X-Gen affecting my Microsoft Olk EB WebView folder or something like that. I can only guess this has to do with the @#$%&*^ tablet !)+(! I do not know how to use that kind of stuff or how to set that up (the phone is also only half set up after 2 or 3 years now). I hope I don't lose all my MSN Mails somehow.
The thing is, during set up it asks if you want to add another email. I did because that is my main email and the one I use at B&N so I thought I had to add it. Now I can see the MSN emails on the tablet but can't access them in my MSN App. Again, not sure if it might be the set up or the scam emails or trojans or what but I do know, I didn't have this problem before I started messing with this tablet!
Unless, and I would prefer this to be the problem, it has to do with this Microsoft Azure outage that I just read about!

My dear, you are not difficult to deal with! All this tecchy stuff is a nightmare for most people, me included.
Is there any way you can get the entire exact message Norton called these things?? I looked up what a Microsoft OLK webview folderr was - it is a storage folder for temporary files Microsoft creates when you open up emails from Outlook.com. Since Outlook.com is now the web based email that replaced Hotmail and MSN, I suspect those two spam emails are what Norton is talking about.
I assume you're running the full virus scan on you desktop? I really don't think there was anything wrong in the PDF files you used.
Question, you can see MSN emails on the tablet... Yay! Yes, if that is your B & N account email, you needed to add it. But are you able to read and access those emails? You say you can't access them in your MSN app - is this on the desktop or the tablet?
I don't use MSN, so this is all Greek to me!

Actually, it DOES sort of help! The giant series of numbers are just identifiers. The first part is were they are located after quarantine. I think the PDF refers to the attachments in these spam emails which were PDF files. I've gotten tons of these types of spam emails with PDF attachments. They claim to be all kinds of things from bills to important information. Of course, if you click on the PDF to read it, it starts downloading heaven only knows what. Most are quarantined at my server, but now and then one gets through. I just delete and block and empty the deleted files.

I have to say that I trust Gmail in huge magnitudes more than most other web based emails. I'd grade Yahoo mail the absolute worst. That said, I don't "like" it as much as I like my email provided by my ISP which I've had for over 20 years. I use Microsoft Office Outlook as my email client.
Your tablet - and your phone, for that matter - are nothing more than little computers with operating systems, processors and memory.
