Here are the latest updates from Darkling Room:

Autumn update: Crown ‘Silent Night’ and Blackenrock, my book and new game, Ghost Lantern in a couple of weeks. And, CrownFest for 2026 website going live soon. Read on.

🍂 Looking forward to spending more time in the studio, with TLC - Silent Night up next for me to finish, get some Lost Crown gaming going! Looking forward to that. I’m not aiming for Christmas, but early next year. We also had some fans play some of Blackenrock at the recent literature festival here in Cornwall. Gamers said the game “fits like an old glove” and “it’s basically more of the same and that’s what *we* want”, so you can expect that game to come creeping out of a dark corner in 2026, creaking old animations and funky gameplay included. 🤓 It also runs really well, I was exhibiting the game on an older laptop, looked great, so that’s good. Runs well on the Steam Deck too. Also in 2026, May Day in Saxton will be a very real thing! Matt Bear Clark and I are organising a small CrownFest for Polperro next year, with a host of ‘Crown’ locations joining in the fun. It’s going to be brilliant, with several Crown characters turning the village into one big Escape Room. Tea and tasseography with Nanny Noah. Surveys with Professor Hardacre. Breaking and entering with Lucy Reubans. Picnic with Jemima. And, of guess, a few rambles with me, Nigel Danvers. Designed for various budgets, big Crown fans will not want to miss it. Website very soon.

I’ve also enjoyed writing and releasing a book about local ghosts, Haunted Harbour. It’s selling well and has travelled to allsorts of countries, across the globe. I didn’t really expect, so I’m proud of it.

We’ve had a very busy year, workwise at Shadow Tor Studios, as well as hosting very successful real-world ‘ghost hunts’ as Shadow Tor ParanormalBut, I’ve burnt a bit of midnight oil (late nights) and created a short new game, Ghost Lantern. It’s a 3D recreation of this Halloween’s ‘Ghost Hunt’ at Kilminorth Manor Farm. Point and click, it’s a very Dark Fall style mini mystery. Gamers will be doing exactly the same things we do, but with a story to solve, puzzles and inventory.

About This Game

Come investigate the old Kilminorth Manor Farm, in Cornwall. The place is said to be haunted!

A mysterious sealed box was discovered at Kilminorth Manor Farm during renovations. Inside, secreted away, were letters, old census information and strangest of all, a few glass photographic plates, from the era of early photography. The photographs, although ancient, clearly show the farm. A terrible crime happened at the farm nearly 200 years ago.

We invite you to solve an ancient ‘cold case’ crime! Study the old documents, call out into the darkness with your microphone, and see what the Ghost Lantern has to show you. A big tip, the room will be listening to you, so pick your questions carefully.

A short point and click adventure awaits at the old farm hidden deep in the Kilminorth Woods. A recent discovery has unearthed a mystery and several old glass photographic plates, ready to be viewed via the Ghost Lantern. Study the images, call out questions with your microphone and see if the room responds. Some say the vintage images seem to change, revealing more clues, as if the past was trying to reveal its secrets.

Explore a detailed recreation of the real farm, the most haunted room at the old house. We have conducted many ‘real world’ investigations of this location, offering this unique opportunity to explore the location yourself and delve deeper into the mystery. Follow the clues to a startling conclusion.

A point and click adventure involving deduction and paranormal investigation. Written and created by Jonathan Boakes, creator of The Lost Crown, Incubus and the Dark Fall video game series.

Happy Haunting!

Looking forward to checking Ghost Lantern out, thank you.

EDIT: I'm gonna need a microphone. This is gonna be different. I'll have to make a buy decision whether or not to get both, game and mic, when it releases

The use of microphones playing games is nothing new. They are used in online co-ops for the most part. This may be a first "calling out questions" in a game to see if things change or what have you. This could be really cool. The Darkling Room could be onto something here

It's never too late!

Somewhere around my house I have an old plastic microphone that I think came with my Dell XP computer. I don't really think I'd care to bother with a game that requires a microphone though. It sounds weird smirk

Occasionally laptops will have bulit-in microphones. Playstation 5 also has one.

I do agree that it would feel a bit weird, though. But as Orion says, the microphone idea is just new for a point and click adventure. And who knows - it might prove to be fun.

Maybe Marian. I'd have to hear from fellow GameBoomers what they think of it after they play it.
