You don't have to be a member to get help from Big Fish. They're very good at responding but not necessarily with helping (in my opinion).

While I was in a frenzy to install all the MCF games, I included Dire Grove. It (apparently) downloaded and installed. But I had not yet tried to run it. It tries to start, an icon appears on the taskbar, then nothing. So - sorry to say I am not the only person in the world who can run Dire Grove.

One of these days I will try to learn how to do Virtual Box.

Yes, what you describe is what is experienced universally on Windows 10/11, unfortunately. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Unfortunately Dire Grove was another game I re-installed on my new PC. It installed perfectly, I thought. Then I read Tally Ho's post, and thought I had better try it. Rats!! Same result. Might look to see whether it's available on GoG. Their games are (usually) pre-programed to run on anything.

Unfortunately, GOG does not have Dire Grove. If it ever shows up anywhere, tweaked and working on newer operating systems, I would announce it here.

It only took my son about 35 minutes to get it working in Virtual Box, thankfully.

Talking about an older BF game that won't play ..... here's one on Win 10 .... for me ....

I recently contacted Big Fish about a game I transferred, along with my account, when I moved it (several years ago) from Win7 to Win 10.

It was an old game from 2012 called "Thief of Twilight : Curse of Souls CE" and was the first one (since I moved my account) that wouldn't play.

I raised an enquiry ticket and although they had me do quite a bit of messing about, the game WOULD download and install but would absolutely NOT play.

In the end I was credited with a few game points and that was the best they could offer.

It was the first that had failed after I'd moved my account to another machine. Up to now every other has been fine 😒

So - having tested "Baskervilles" just to see if it would run, now I'm playing it through. I remember it (sort of) but enjoying it just as much as before. It's not like I am short of stuff to play. I always say a good story-line is a game's greatest asset.

Mad, I will have to check out Thief of Twilight: Curse of Souls CE. It is in my Purchase History but I've only played it on Windows 7.

I have installed VirtualBox, and trying in install Windows XP on it. I have what I think is a trustworthy .iso file, and it does create the virtual machine, but crashes with a very complicated error message. Pretty soon it's going to be Double Martini Time. (Sung to 'Howdy-Doody Time')

Just another MCF game to add to the "won't run" list - Huntsville. The very first one I played.

And Huntsville was the very first MCF game. I haven't tried this one on Windows 11, but I know some people who say it is working for them. Will check it out one of these days.

Do you know if Huntsville ran in Win 10? I'll have to check it out maybe. I still have it installed on my Win 7.

Not sure, but I seem to remember people with Windows 11 saying the only MCF game they could not get to work was Dire Grove. Will look into Huntsville for Windows 10 when I have the time.

Not a MCF game but another one that won't play: Ran across Calavera: Day of the Dead in my Library. I remember it being a good game, but not in my top 20. Think of it being a casual version of Grim Fandango. Similar theme. Similar graphic style. It downloaded fine, and seemed to load fine. Got to the first scene and clicked on a hotspot. Immediately booted out to my desktop. No residual evidence, e.g., icon on my taskbar. Reloaded and had the same result.

Wish BFG would emulate GoG and Steam by configuring their games so they play on modern machines.

I love Calavera: Day of the Dead. It ran just fine on my Windows 7 computer. Will see if it runs on Windows 10/11.

If only I had the disks to load them I would buy a few used laptops and load everything from Windows 3.1SE to whatever it was that still ran Dire Grove. It irks me that some really old games run fine on my new Win11 PC while other, far newer (relatively) won't even let me download the game.

Virtual Box helps with a lot of this stuff. My son got Dire Grove running on our Windows 11 in about 35 minutes using that method.
