Good Morning everyone. Wide awake Double Dark Brew is ready. Judith I am so sorry for your loss. As we get old losing someone we love and care about happens too often. Hagatha are you feeling better today? It looks like we all are getting some awful hot weather this week. Hope you all can stay cool in doors... Gerry

Oh, Judith, I am so sorry to hear this. Peace to you and her family.
Just hot here... nothing more to say. The young man with the young back is one his way over to spread some mulch for me.

Good morning everyone.
It's going to be another hot one here, too, although our hot is pretty tame compared with some of the temperatures I've been reading about elsewhere. The worst of it is the asthma flare-up I get when it's hot. I had to use my emergency puffer a few times yesterday.
I'm off to yoga later in the morning then and pick up something for dinner, and then home for the afternoon to sit outside with a cat or two and watch the birds. The crocosmia around the water feature has bloomed and there are hummingbirds darting around. The garden's full of butterflies, too. I still need to get a large plant to anchor the pond landscaping, though. I might have to make a trip up to the large nursery outside of Courtenay/Comox for that.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready. We are under a severe heat warning today and it is expected to last thru Saturday evening...it is going to feel like well over a 100 degrees for the next few days...horribly hot and humid. It is already 75 degrees outdoors and the sun won't rise for another couple hours! Hope you all can stay cool today! Gerry

Good morning everyone, It's raining! Apparently we may be in for a couple of days of it. I'm still feeling a bit off and might have to miss my dance class today. I will have to venture into to town to pick up my asthma inhalers, though. My asthma has been very bad for the last couple of weeks. What with that and the arthritis pain I'm feeling just a bit old. Judith, my thoughts are still with you.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Thursday afternoon. Did some work in the garden this morning before it gets so stinking hot!
Laundry today. Not sure what we're doing this weekend. My preference is to stay home and BBQ here with the Germans!

Good Friday morning. Extremely toasty again today. After picking a bunch of cucumbers yesterday, I did jump in the pool - the water is finally warm enough for me! We have been sitting out on the pool deck having a beer with the Germans in the evenings and it's actually been pretty nice out there after the heat of the day. mbday, the only time I didn't have problems with squirrels was when we had a dog! They always kept the yard free from squirrels. You could always try one of those sprinkler scarecrows that will spray the critters with water if they come near the tree. You just hook it to a hose and it is motion activated. It runs on a 9 volt battery. Yard Enforcer

Good morning everyone.
I'm still feeling under the weather, and now with an annoying cough. I had to miss my dance class yesterday, We were going to practise a very complicated dance and I really wanted to be there for it.
Looks like another cloudy day with cooler weather.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good 4th of July morning. Lots of celebrations and BBQs going on in the US neighborhoods.
I have put the seasoning rub on my pork steak and we will put them on the grill later this afternoon. I'm having baked beans, mac and cheese and a sour cream cucumber salad to go with them. A no-bakek strawberry cake will finish it off. No fireworks out here in the country unless the neighbors set some off.

Good Sunday morning. Severe thunderstorms yesterday. We lost power about 3:30 and it didn't come back until midnight. We had our pork steaks by candle light! I have a gas range, so I was able to light my burners and finish off the sides like the mac and cheese. So we have power this morning, but no internet. My tower is only about 1/4 mile away. Don't know if it was lightning or what, but they are working on it.

Good morning everyone.
Draclvr, in response to several lengthy power outages here and the lack of a gas stove, i bought two Bluetti "generators" and a single- burner portable induction cooktop. Last time we had an outage I was able to heat up soup and make tea as well as power my phone and laptop. Handy in a pinch. If we ever have another overnight outage I'll be able to make coffee in the morning; I can live on sandwiches but cold-brew coffee on a cold morning just doesn't cut it. In the meantime. I can sit outside on my patio with my Steam Deck powered for several hours.
It's a lovely day. I'm feeling up to mowing the lawn, but that will be the extent of my ambition today.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

We didn't have any fireworks here for Canada Day this year, at least not anywhere I could hear them, but normally my cats freak out and hide under the bed until long after it's over.

Hubby did get out a big battery he has. It connects to the terminals on his truck battery and then you can plug things in to it. We plugged in the big freezer for a few hours because it is full of a new quarter of beef! Usually these outages are just a tree across a line, but this time it was very widespread with over 60,000 people without power. Some are still not back on - they said it might take a few days.
My little power bank to keep my items charged and my gas stove were life savers!

We too often forget how people USED to live !!
My Gran’s little stone cottage in very rural Staffordshire had no gas and no electricity. One cold water tap - in a room attached to the outside of the house, which only had outside access. And a “toilet” in a “shed” a long way down the land past her orchard. The toilet itself was just a heavyweight plank (with a hole cut into it) upon which you sat - and “everything” dropped through the hole into “something”. (The “something” getting emptied periodically by some mysterious people I never actually saw đź¤)
The only light was from oil lamps and the only cooking facility was the huge open fire range in the ONE living room. (The only other rooms being two small bedrooms.)
But I loved going to stay with her and went two or three times a year 👍

Mad, my father's family had a cottage in Go Home Bay, off Georgian Bay, that had no electricity. We slept on camp cots in one of the boathouses and read by the light of oil lanterns. No running water. It was hand pumped in from the lake and boiled. My Grandmother eventually had a propane tank added for a stove and when she got much older had a pump toilet that only she was allowed to use.
Like you, we thought it was the best time ever, an adventure.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready. We still have people in part of the state without power from the storms on Friday night. In a couple communities so many trees fell on homes and power lines it is going to be a while before all the power is restored. One home in one of the rural towns had 6 trees fall on it! No one was hurt, but the house was badly damaged. It is raining here today and expected to continue all day. We have flood watches in effect. Hope you all have a good Monday! Gerry

Good Monday morning. I loved going to my Great Aunt Berniece's house. No electricity or running water. She had a giant - to me! - wood stove in the kitchen where she did all her cooking. I remember helping her use a wooden churn to make butter and loved to play with her old crank-up Victrola to play records. There was also an outhouse down a path which always seemed to have wasps buzzing around it. Her father, my Irish great grandpa, lived with her. He once told me to remember "It's Orange Irish ya are, lassie." I loved going there.

Good Monday morning everyone. What neat memories from everyone. I loved visiting my grand parents home in New York. They had electricity, running water and a coal furnace for heating. I remember their house being "huge" as a youngster especially the basement (for the coal and furnace) and attic with all sorts of neat items which I explored whenever I got loose. And then I returned some 50+ years later for a family funeral only to discover their home was actually very small! But I still firmly hold on to my childhood memories! Time for a cup of WADDB and bagel. Have a great day everyone

Good morning all.
Yet another lovely day, though it's going to get hot later on. I think I'll drive up the coast road to Comox and do some Costco shopping.
John and I did rustic for the first few years of our life together and in our travels ended up staying in many a nasty and dirty old cabin with no plumbing or electricity. The last straw was the one that had a huge hole in the floor. After that I put my foot down and we graduated to dicey-looking motels.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
