Yay! WADDB.

Over here 20 Celsius and cloudy. I can report the garlic survived the winter and has grown bulbs, albeit not that bulky.
Will give then some more time to grow-

Happy Friday GameBoomers!

TGIF good morning everyone. The heat index hits triple digits here too. Walking before sunrise is a must with our little buddy. And then yard work in the morning before it gets too hot is the best practice! Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good Friday morning. Looks like a steady drizzle of rain for a couple of hours and then it should be moving out.

Fogfighter, the general rule of thumb for harvesting your garlic is to dig it up when 2/3 of the upper leaves have turned brown. Then you will need to cure it by hanging it somewhere so that center stem can dry out all the way. That way it will last several months. I miss my garlic this year!

Good morning all.

Went to my dance class yesterday. Big mistake. Halfway through I started to feel very ill and breathless and ended up going to the Community Urgent Care. Apparently there are a few minor chest bugs going around that are wreaking havoc on asthmatics like me. The doctor started me on a short course of Prednisone. Nasty stuff. Not recommended.

I have some lawn area in my garden that's not being used for anything and I've been thinking about putting in a raised bed for things like tomatoes and garlic. In Campbell River we had a greenhouse and four raised beds and grew all sorts of nice things through the summer.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Thanks Draclvr

I got to try that. Currently I'd say the top third is yellow. I did just harvest one as a test. There was a bulb, and one of those bulbils, or was it bulblet. So looks promising, and much better than last season.

Happy Saturday Gameboomers!

Good Saturday morning. Overcast and kind of cool this morning. Terrible flooding in southern Missouri - many fast water rescues and homes torn off the foundation. Haven't heard of any deaths yet.

Hagatha, prednisone is indeed nasty stuff, but it can give quick relief. My DIL just went through an awful time with it... she is a redhead and some redheads react differently to medications and things like anesthesia.

Picking sweet corn this morning. I'm hoping there won't be too much of it, but I'm afraid there will be and then we'll have to process and freeze it. I don't get why he still plants enough to feed half the county when there is just the two of us! Last time there was easily 3 bushels of corn!

Good morning everyone.

I'm feeling a bit better today as the medication clears my lungs. It does give me a very restless sleep, though, even if I take it the morning.

It's a beautiful day today. I might venture a short neighbourhood walk later on. Otherwise I'll sit in my garden and listen to the sound of my little stream and play Witcher 3.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Oh, no, Mad. I know you've had some miserable heat on the other side of the pond.

Hagatha, my sister's husband had a long battle with cancer and the side effects of a stem-cell transplant. She said she always knew when they had upped his prednisone dosage because he would be out in the garage at 3 am changing oil in a vehicle.

Well. The severe effects of hot weather are no comparison to the more serious conditions of some health issues, Draclvr hearts

Mad, that heat wave sounds unbearable. I'm not a hot weather person at the best of times and I wouldn't be able to stand it without air conditioning.

I should get in touch with my brother-in-law in Southampton to see how he's doing in this heat. I almost never hear from him and I worry about him now that he's in his eighties. He's become so eccentric. I'm not even sure his computer still works. He doesn't have an answering machine or voice mail or a smart phone so he's very hard to reach.

At least the prednisone is only for 5 days. I can't tell if the nausea and dizziness are from the bug itself or from the meds.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good morning everyone. Modern medications are wonderful in restoring health and treating illness, but like most things in medicine, there are benefits, trade-offs and the potential for unwanted effects. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers Hagatha for a speedy recovery. Hope you're able to contact your brother-in-law. Had a great walk this morning before the temps climb into the 90s. And hopefully will get some rain showers this afternoon. Time for WADDB and bagels. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good Sunday morning. It cooled off nicely yesterday, but is heading up to close to 90 today.

Well, hubby came in with about 3 bushels of sweet corn. We had some corn on the cob with a meatloaf last night. Step-daughter and her SO are here for about a week and we all said it was some of the best sweet corn we'd ever had. The Germans will be returning today from their 4 day trip to spend time with family a couple of hours away.

Unfortunately, there was one death with all the flash flooding in SE Missouri Friday night and Saturday. They showed a helicopter rescue of a bunch of kids from a camp somewhere.

Good morning everyone.

We had a torrential rain yesterday afternoon and evening, much needed. It's a good thing I had my gutters cleaned a few weeks back.

John and I once grew a few corn plants when we lived in Burnaby. We got, I think, eight or ten cobs from our tiny little garden plot. Ate it all in one day. Absolutely marvellous. We do get fresh-picked corn here from local farms and the farm market will start selling it soon.

I like corn on the cob but can no longer eat it due to bad teeth, and I never got the knack of shaving it off the cob either. One of my grandfathers used to shave corn off the cob and fry it and it was so good but I could never replicate the recipe.

Last night I was surprised to hear a voice of a person I actually know speaking on my answering machine, a friend I haven't spoke to for maybe two years. She got remarried last year so after we talked she sent me some pictures and a video via text and I had a nice fight with my cell phone trying to look at all that. Still not liking that fiber land line phone either - bad connection, hard to hear.

Happy Sunday to you all!
