It does say this in the instructions:

Once the tool has finished removing all files and before clicking 'Finish', click the 'Reinstall the Big Fish Games app' link to reinstall the BFGMv4.*

Not sure if that applies now that they have a new GM though? Maybe it would reinstall the newer version.

So when I went to download the free trial of a game the other day, BF immediately installed the new version of Game Manager (without giving me the choice)

What's worse, now when I go to the website I am signed out. Every time. And it's a real pain because my password is one of those 12-character alphabet soups that I have to go look up each time. I don't see a box to check 'Keep me signed in"

There are good (careful) coders and BF has employed the other (sloppy) kind. Grrr.

I found myself signed out a couple of times but then it stayed put. I don't have the new version of the GM so for me, that wasn't the why of it.

Tally Ho, in an earlier post I explained that the only way to avoid the new GM automatically installing is to not download any games or demos from the website (which I do realize is hardly anything most people would want to do for a prolonged period of time). Downloading games from your Purchase History is the only way to avoid it at this time.

I'm not one to speak on such matters. I've not been a BFG member for over five years. Probably closer to ten. Basic reason was a lack of original games. not NEW games. There were plenty of those, but there is a limit to how many new Joyville games you can swallow. I was not alone in thinking this. The people who followed my Casual Games Thread on AG will attest to that sentiment. It's the main reason the thread died.

It's a shame that BFG has come to this state. Yes, this is about the fourth ownership change. Hard to keep track of the exact number. It's hard to see another change because , when this one is done, it's hard to see that there will be anything of value to sell. The current problems with GM are only symptomatic of a larger problem. Congratulations to Ana, Marian, et al, for keeping the thread going.

For the most part I agree with you, rtrooney. From about 2012-2020 is what I think of as the pinnacle years for HOPAs. After that, more and more developers moved on to casual mobile games and such, a market which was growing while the PC casual market was shrinking. This is how I see it, and I believe this to be correct. Meanwhile BF was bought and sold a number of times and what became most important were the casino games and mobile yet again. I am actually surprised that they managed to sustain HOPAs for as long as they have. And I agree that it is a shame that things are the way that they are now, of course.

As I have said before, I have such a backlog of good games to play now that I would be fine were I to never buy another game. So, I am just sitting back and watching as things continue to unfold. It's not much fun, but it is interesting. It still remains to be seen if the new BFE development studio produces a HOPA. So far, we have an offering of a puzzle game from them called Puzzle Deck.

For me .. By the time (if ever) I have played all the games in my BF collection (already played or as yet unplayed) I’ll be able to just start playing them all over again as I’ll have completely forgotten their content 😬

I think it's a given that I will not be buying any more "new" games from BFG. I finally got my Purchase History back. Had to wait until BFG kicked me offline and sign in again for that to happen. Manually logging off and signing in again didn't work. Also, buying a new game seems to "auto-upgrade" to the new GM without asking for permission to do so. I've got 500+ games in my library. That sould keep me busy for a bit.

No weekend sale or am I missing something?

I am not seeing anything. It would seem that someone might have fallen asleep at the switch. I'll post if anything pops up.

It could very well be. On the other hand, maybe they just wanted to put the remastered MCF in the spotlight and not have a sale distracting people from the main event. Who knows?
