Draclvr, I'm so sorry to hear about the horse.

Copper, when we were living in North Burnaby and in West Vancouver we had many coyotes cross our paths but rarely bears although they were definitely around. I love seeing them but yes, one would not leave the house when there's a fierce mama bear with her cubs.

Gorgeous day here. I'm going to clean up the pots in my garden and put away most of the outdoor furniture. It's cold this morning.

Good Saturday morning. Cooler weather prevails, but it will warm up gradually next week.

Thank you, everyone, for your words about Twister. It's been really hard to accept. I have to do the night feedings at the Ranch tonight and that is going to be really, really hard. He was my buddy at night and I always spent some time giving him scratches and hugs. Always had a treat in my pocket too.

The storm is still here...raining and very windy. It will be here till Tuesday morning so still a long time to go. The rain lets up for a while but the wind is relentless! I hope we make it thru Tuesday morning without losing power.

Good Sunday morning. Still overcast and cool... on my 2nd cup of WADDB.

Well, the closing/feeding at the Ranch last night was as rough as I thought it would be. No Twister waiting for me for scratches, hugs and a treat. But I went two stalls down and there was… EEYORE! I delivered Eeyore back in 2014 when I was closing every night! The little miniature mare was part of a 25 horse rescue. She was pregnant and extremely emaciated. At 10:30 when I went down to that quarantine barn, there she was in labor… she had gotten the head out, but was just spent. So the next contraction, I went up inside and made sure the shoulders were positioned correctly and pulled. It was super hard, but he finally popped out. I left his hind legs in the birth canal, so she could finish naturally and ran up to call the Ranch Manager. We were down there until 1:30 am and she had to get frozen colostrum because this poor little mare had no milk. Eeyore weighed all of 14 pounds! His adopter had returned him.

His adopter had returned him? That's so sad. But I'm glad he was there to help make things a bit better.

Yes, part of the contract says if for some reason you can no longer keep the horse, you have to return to us. The guy was a volunteer and when he got some acreage, he adopted Eeyore and a couple other minis. Life happens sometimes... maybe he had to move or there was an illness. One woman was fighting cancer and just couldn't care for her horse any more and he came back to us.

More bear visits to a town near us, I think wild fires all around us this year have driven the bears into town looking for food.

The bears have been walking down our street for the past twelve years we have lived here, ( I say street but it's always been right thru everybodies front porches) we think it was a bear path long before the houses were built, they have never caused a problem before, the garbage bins are "bear proof" as seen in at least one of our many videos we have. We only put the CCTV cameras up so we could safely see all the wild life passing by, we enjoy it very much, but sometimes I am too worried about going out at night, but now I guess we all have to be extra careful no matter the time of day!

Draclvr, I get that life gets in the way sometimes. That's how I ended up adopting Dude. He was obviously much-loved, but his people became homeless. He was such a timid little thing. Now he swaggers around, King of the Garden and Master of the Food Bowl.
