Hi. Having thoroughly enjoyed most of two versions of Gothic 3 from my collection, I now have Gothic 2 Gold (from GOG via Galaxy) installed on my Win 10 computer - and it works well. BUT the navigation uses the number pad keys (not WASD) and on my English keyboard the numbers key pad is on the right hand side - which would mean trying to use the mouse with my left hand. [And I'd probably never manage that - especially during combat !! ] However, I've seen posts here at GB that talk about changing the function of keys (temporarily) for a game and wondered if it would be possible in THIS case ?? And, if so, how easy would it be for a Techie Numbo like me to deal with it ?? Any help always much appreciated

What you are talking about is changing key bindings. Go into the Options in the main menu and see if there is an option to do this. I take it you do not have number keys across the top of the keyboard in addition to having the keypad??
I've been reading some posts about this game and they all talk about using the WASD keys for navigation along with the mouse.

Hi Draclvr - and thanks for your response.
Across the top of my keyboard are all the "F" keys and along the next row below are the normal number keys - with each one serving a dual purpose - eg. - the No.4 also serves as the $ sign.
Could it depend on who is providing the game as to how the navigation appears ?? In this case GOG GALAXY ??
I've never had the problem before .... [I, too, have always used "WASD + Mouse".]
And I need to have that facility with this game 🙄

So, you don't have to use the number pad then. If really needed, you could use the number keys at the top.
Did you check in Options to see if there is a way to change key bindings??
Something just doesn't sound right here.... I have ever heard of number keys being used for navigation. I'm going to pose a question in the Steam and GOG forums for this game.

Thank you. And do, please, let me know if you find anything in those forums that would help .... I don't think I could use those number keys (the row below the F keys) to navigate, Draclvr. I tried a couple but none of them got my character to move across the screen And where would I find the "Options" you mention ?? [I looked on the Galaxy page from where I would launch the game but didn't see anything called Options.]

I already have two manuals downloaded, oldbroad. One for the original Gothic 2 and one for the later version - called Gothic 2 Gold.
The 78 page manual is for the original version and describes the navigation system as using WASD keys.
The manual for the later version only appears to aspire to 9 pages and doesn't go into details of navigation etc..

I'm not sure how you get to the main menu, but usually it's by pressing ESC after you load the game.
Oldbroad's suggestion was a good one. In that manual does it explain the main menu functions? It probably won't mention navigation as such, but more what things you can change in the Options sub-menu.
If the numbers above don't work, that tells me the numbers on the keypad shouldn't work either. Maybe try turning OFF the number lock so they can't be used as numbers? You don't say so, but I assume when you tried to use the WASD keys, they didn't work?

Thank you for trying to help, oldbroad 😊
The numbers on the keypad DO work, Draclvr. They move my character the way the WASD keys should. Obviously I tried to move my character using the WASD keys FIRST as soon as I could interact when all the intro stuff over. But they just had no effect.
I will try turning OFF the numbers keypad next, then. (The numbers above work as normal - just not as navigation tools.)
And see if I can find any other “options” anywhere ….
(I’m so disappointed - and It’s all so frustrating for a non- techie person !!)

I assumed that, but just wanted to make sure! Have you tried pressing the ESC key once the game is loaded to see if there is something in the main menu for Options?

No, not yet. I'll check again before I go to bed tonight. Isn't it past your bedtime over there?! I thought of something else. Have you tried using the arrow keys to move around?
