I just installed this game. When I try to play, the game crashes. I have gone to updates.frictionalgames.com and found none. There is only a patch for the demo. Please help, if possible.

Thanks.

Laurette please post this problem in Glitches forum and see if they can help you get started. Maybe it's something simple and you'll be able to play shortly?

Is there a trick to avoiding the steam in the tunnel? I get past the first pipe, but the other two together I can't.

Thanks.

Laurette, after the first steam, go to the opposite wall and time again your passage when there is no steam for the other two.

You could get shacky a bit, but you should do it.

Good luck.

Thanks, Chief. I did finally get past that point. I am now in the workshop. I try to baracade the door with two barrels and one large stone. This does no good. There is not enough time. Also, I can't get the knack of the hammer to get rid of the dog. Is there a (heaven forbid!) (joke) cheat I can use or does someone have a saved game? This is driving me crazy! Thank you in advance.

Laurette, must say first that I'm playing the Easy mode. So there could be a difference in time and in action with the dog.

But before you enter that door, you absolutely need a book (of dynamite or fuse) that you find in the chest of the office.

Back to the door. In that area, you have three places or rooms to go to.
So instead of loosing time with the door, (do not know if you have less time that I did), run left to a room and pick up a TNT barrel. Come back with the barrel and look for the first opening on your left.

It seems that that the dog stays in the entry area around the door.

With the barrel, go north and west to find a passage block by rocks. Drop your barrel there. Then go to the opposite east side and find a door (do not come back where the dog is). You have a couple of thing to do in there.

Hope this can be of some help.

Thank you very much, Chief! I'll try it. The walkthrough I refer to doesn't mention finding dynamite or a fuse.

Just started playing this game and, oh dear. The controls seem to be programmed by someone who wants to make things as difficult as possible. Movement is for some reason made by the w, a, s & d keys. Why I do not know, I perfer the mouse or at worst the actual arrow keys. W, a, s & d mean nothing to me & this confuses me. If you scour your manual you can find out how to access the inventory, the tab key. It would have been nicer if it was displayed at the top or bottom of the screen or there was a button to click with your mouse.
The absolute worst thing is you cannot save your game when you want to. The maunual tells me the game automatically saves at certain points and you can use an artifact whatever that means ( I have no artifacts whatever they are ) but it is no use when you are stuck near the beginning or if your doorbell rings or the phone goes or you have to go out.
I'm sure any sensible playtester would have pointed all these things out - the graphics are lovely and the story looks as if it may be good so why have the programmers made the actual playing so difficult and why oh why can I not save as & when I like.
Now I am going to have to ruin the game by printing out the solution to refer to when I get stuck as I cannot save the game and think about the answer. GGGRRRRR

I agree with you JennyP! This is not a friendly thing to do with a game, particularly when you get further into it.
There is no way to ingame save except at certain points = there will be a brief flash of light when the game saves. Fairly early on you will find objects in rooms and when you click on a certain object (artifact) it will also save the game. Unfortunately these are spaced apart, which means that there is a great deal of repeating, as when you leave the game you are returned to that point automatically.
I am told there is a simple way to technically tweek outside the game to enable saves, but I leave that to someone with technical knowledge. I never like to mess with files.
But printing out the solution won't necessarily be the reason your game is ruined - even when you read what to do, you still have to translate to the doing - you'll see what I mean as you go along.

Thanks, Nickie, I think. I was really looking forward to playing this - just wonder why the programmers made it so user unfriendly

wasd is an old way of moving characters - I'm surprised how many games (and this includes the "fancy" mmorpg's) still use this method.

I *think* it's used because it can be done using your left hand (and is considered "basic" activity that can be easily accomplished by those of us who are right-handed), thereby freeing up your right hand to do more "complicated" things - like finding all those artifacts/inventory objects.

I, too, hate it! That's why someone invented the mouse! Thanks so much for your post JennyP - not I will definitely cross it off my list of "To Buy."

If you feel like you need a quick save, it is a simple edit to a file:

From what I was reading about the game the developers are trying to create an interaction system where you have to physically do more realistic actions in order to move along. While I appreciate the concept in theory - in practise it is incredibly hard work & I think detracts from the intrigue & promise of the game. I am still battling with the demo - so not sure whether I will go ahead and buy the full game yet but an interesting idea I thought.

I am now at the part with entering the code and facing the dog. One walkthrough says "kill the dog." easier said than done. Another says "avoid the dog." Also, easier said than done. Any suggestions? Thanks. P.S. In the reviews of this game, they said it was not confrontational!!

I too hate when games only save at certain points. This is the same for Rainbow Six Vegas which is a FPS. This is the first game of that type I have bought and it only saves at a checkpoint. This is not user friendly since sometimes you need to close a game for various reasons. I hate this as a feature that is being used in a adventure game. I too think this is not a game for me. Thanks for your post.

I have played the game twice, nice game. W&S keys are the only ones I ever used. The mouse does everything. Tab for inv. and space bar to jump. I used the quick save a lot. Works real good.

I haven't played this game Laurette and have not seen any w/t's for it either.
Maybe someone that has played will drop by to assist you.

texaslady: Thank you. I just evaded the dog, walked around a little and guess what? Another dog! I am (for now) giving up on this game. I may retry in "easy" mode later or wait for a trainer with cheat codes.
