Hi. Sorry I'm askin too many q's here. I wanted to ask a few things about these games:
Oblivion
I uninstalled this beautifull game for a reason but I want to reinstall it and begin from where I left. Actually I couldn't decide what to do. I had completed the 'spies' mission from the main quests. I was usually playin it on my own but was following the walkthrough too. So according to the walkthrough, now Martin would ask me to get him some 'Daedric artifact' to include it in his ingredients for a recipe that he'd use to open a portal. Now if I follow the game, I would be getting 'star of azura' for him, but according to the WT it's too awesome to sacrifice since it would be handy in magical stuff. My character isn't into magic very much. He's more warrior and ranged weapon user. They suggest that I get "Wabbajack from Sheogorath" but fot that I would either have to pickpocket someone successfully or pick a very hard lock. Both the walkthroughs i.e the one at gamespot and maybe the one at gamebanshee discourage you to use 'star of azura' I can't decide what to do frown Any suugesstions? What did you guys do?
Also there seem to be lack of side quests. Aren't there much side quests in the game? I only found much in the place where this guy goes into his own painting. There were enough side quests there.
Oh and I wanted to buy a house to store my stuff in. But they are all expensive except for the one that is around 2000 or so. But is that worth buying? And is it ok if I leave my stuff at the castle where martin lives. Apparantly no one steals my stuff there. Cause last time I put my robes there and came back, they were still there.
Gothics:
I was following a WT by someone named "Airyn" which I can't find ANYWHERE now, no matter how hard I search. I still have it saved but incomplete. Anyways, I followd her walkthrough till where she becomes a mage. I don't want to be a mage. I wanted to be either a shadow or a guard. But She mentions that they require you to master two handed weapons and so will require a lot of skills. I reached where chapter 3 begins and Cor Angar needs you to go to the Orc Cemetery with Talas. According the walkthrough it becomes increasingly difficult to level up after this. Has anyone completed the game as a guard or a shadow withouth any difficulty?
Are gothic 2 and 3 good. Sorry I asked too many questions

Oblivion--buy the house for 2000. I found it very useful since it is easy to get to with loot and a good place to store stuff until you can afford a nicer place. Your stuff will probably eventually disappear at the castle.

Gothic-- http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=74616

This site has some nice maps and a forum to help you.

http://gothic.rpgdot.com/?hsaction=10062&game=gothic&l1=Maps&infoID=67

Gothic 2 is a great game. Even better than Gothic 1. I liked Gothic 3 as well.

With Oblivion, you could level up some more by doing quests for fighters or thief guild - you can also do the mage guild quests - you don't need to know much about magic. Then do a different deadric quest and give that item instead. All deadric items are scaled to your level anyway so as you progress through the game the great deadric item will become less useful as your level increases.

I enjoyed all of the Gothic games. The emphasis is more on exploration in Gothic games - compared to Oblivion which is more hack/slash. Its been a while since I played G1 - but I think you do need to decide what type of character you want to play and add points into those areas - it is important early on but I think you end up with lots of points later in the game - I always chose to be a mage in the end and this was offered late. I might be way off here but I don't think the points are that important late in the game as long as you use the armour and upgrades that are provided by your chosen guild as you progress.

Hi Hugh
I'm with Pokey, buy the cheap house...you will still have to furnish it to get all the storage...more money. BUT a house is very useful. I bought my first one in Bravil...very cheap, basic storage AND a smith for repairs and mages hall for charging enchanted weapons just steps away. But in the end not enough storage for me so now I live in Chorral (sp?). I like Chorral too but I loved hanging in Bravil....it just became too much of a backwater for a "hero" like me.

You may be as poor as a church mouse now but soon you will have more gold than you can ever use so buy a cheap house for now...don't delay. You'll be able to get a bigger one (or two) no problemo later on.

No need to rush through the main quest...do some of the Daedric artifact quests first to get something to give Martin. I think you will rue the day if you give up azura's star. It is very useful---plenty of the other artifacts won't fit into your game play as neatly. The Wabbajack from Sheogorath is a good one to give up---though its a hoot to use when you get strong. But not in any sort of serious way. If you join the thives guild you can buy lockpicks from a fence,up to a hundred at a time and most bandits have lockpicks on them if you have found some of thier campsites. I'd join up with the thieves and use your ill gotten gains to buy lock picks and try to get the Wabbajack from Sheogorath to give to Martin. I gave the saviors hide as it didn't fit into my charector (I'm not much of a magic user either though I'm trying to use it more), but I'm not sure what level you need to be to get it.

I did all the side quests and guild quests first before I even thought about doing the main quest--though that makes some of the battles tougher, lots of comrades die when you are at a high level.

There are tons of side quests, just keep asking around, I've done 125 quests and still have some Daedric quests, all the black brotherhood and all most all the main quests to go.

Arrrgg I've been playing Oblivion so much I haven't had a chance to play Gothic yet. Good thing or this would be a REALLY long post.

OK, this is just me talking (or...er...typing), but I would start over from day one without using the walkthroughs except as a reference source in times of absolute need.

I know that in the beginning one of the characters advises you to perform an action, which invariably starts the main quest...Forget about it! lol This is a free-range game, you can go almost anywhere you want anytime you want.

The main quest is a very small part of this game and IMHO should be done only after you get sick of doing everything else. Trust me, taking on hordes of leveled Daedra at level 30+ is a hoot! wink

Also, there are a ton of side quests you just need to get out and explore. Using a walkthrough that focuses on the main or major quests severely limits what Oblivion has to offer. Just save game often and don't worry about finishing or "beating" the game (can't stand that phrase sick ) just play it. I get killed about a gazillion times trying new stuff, no big deal, just a lesson learned (e.g. Don't try to increase your Blade level by taking on a Grizzly Bear with a dagger! rotfl ) Do a search for Oblivion on this forum and you'll also find a bunch of topics on it.

The game is structured for free exploration, take advantage of it. You'll be amazed at what you find.

Leaving your stuff anywhere, but a secure location is a hit and miss thing. I've come across stuff I dropped at level 2 when my character was at level 20+. Another time I stashed a really cool Claymore, came back 10 minutes later and it was gone. The house in the Imperial City is the cheapest, but the furnishings are expensive for what you get. I only go with the Kitchen set and the Storage Set.

Hi Trail
It was a tip from you that made me hold off on Daedric quests and the dark brotherhood until I was level 30 so I could get the best rewards. And I did have to fight hordes of the worst bad guys to take Kravtch...I did it at my usual slider position and lost all my sidekicks (NPC's) expect the ones that can't die so then I tried it on easy and was able to save most of them. I liked it both ways. For fun I kept the game with the NPC's but I moved the slider back to 3/4ths because it was no fun playing it easy. Now I'll have a few extra guys to help me with Bruma but I'm going to do the dark brotherhood quests first.

I er played till 4 in the morning the last weekend. First time ever to play so late! Good thing my sweetie was out of town or I'd be in big trouble. I've gone to bed before 10 each night since so not sure I'll try that again.

Yer, I was in doubt that it could be 'in my opinion' but wasn't sure cause of 'H'. thanx smile

Ok, I'm doin this 'unfriendly competition' quest from market district. Has anyone done this?
After I talked to shopkeepers, I went to see the shop keeper named as 'Thoronir' and talked to him, followed him and saw 'Agarmir' and his house. Now when I get to his house, I get caught and get jailed. How unfair frown I'm helping them find the culprit and they put me into jail. Is there any way I can complete this quest without bein caught. I get caught even when I sneak. Has anyone done this side quest?

EDIT: It's ok I did it. Maybe this lone guard watched me go in. I did it again while makin sure noone was lookin.

Whenever you're trying to do something really sneaky you have to approach it from a "real life" perspective. Remember, not only did Oblivion sport one of the first aggressive physics engines it also has an AI (artificial intelligence) program that gives all the characters a rudimentary existence. So, if you are in line-of-sight of anyone when trying to break into a building you're going to get caught. You might have to complete the quest later when your sneak skill is higher or just be more watchful.

That's another thing about Oblivion. You may end up leaving a number of quests uncompleted until your skills are higher. No problem, just practice by raiding a couple bandit caves or take a walk through an old Aylied ruin, just watch out for zombies!

Now there is another point about the Imperial Guard/Watch that leverages the fantasy and magic aspect of Oblivion. The Imperial Guards and certain members of other cities guards (someone check my grammar please, plural possessives are always a mystery to me...) don't ask me the source, but from a piece of Oblivion back-story, employ a type of telepathy. If you commit a crime in one city all the other guards in the other cities will know about it. Also, if a guard is near-by when you slice-and-dice someone in the comfort of their residence, they (guards) will be there in a snap...

There are different types of zombies, and some of them are really nasty.

For some reason I'm always amused at my vampire character being attacked by zombies. I keep thinking, "Hang on, why are you attacking ME? We're both dead! Go pick on something with a pulse, would 'ya?"

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Regarding the guards and how annoying their psychic abilities are, there is a mod that removes this etremely annoying habit of theirs. If you'd like, I could track it down for you.

Are they dead? Yes. Unlike you they have but one life...and they wasted it for your sake!

lol Zombies aren't exactly that swift. Ya' know that saying "If I had half a mind....", ever take a good look at a Zombie's head? YUCK! sick (oh and then of course there are the ones who are REALLY lacking in that area!) wink

Awww, but then you miss out on that ever so annoying line

Guard: "Alright law breaker, you're coming with me! Your stolen goods are forfeit. Either pay the fine or go to jail!"

Trail: Picks dialogue selection "Resist Arrest"

Guard: "Then pay with your blood!" (If this were Hagatha's character she would simply produce a bottle of blood lol )

Next scene is Trail's character on the ground with the dialogue box asking "Load Most Recent Save?" lol

Well, don't you find it annoying that every guard in a radius of a hundred miles know instantly when you, the Listener for the Dark Brotherhood of all people (master of sneaking) sneak into somebody's room and murders someone?

Remember that Tessource now is tesnexus.com as the person behind tessource has decided that he would make a website owned entirely by him.

Just to those who wanted to find the 'no psychic guard' mod.
[I think this is the one? ].

Ha! A true Assassin is never caught! Er, except for that one quest where you have to kill the fellow in the pond -- in Leyawin, I think it is, or Bravil. For some reason I get caught every time.

True I guess, but as soon as you enter a house (without the mod) it seems that you have around two minutes until a guard enters it as well.

Hi. Does anyone have any idea where I can find the jail guard of Bruma named 'Tyrellius Logellus' I couldn't find him in the barracks. Does he have timings? I was doin this '2 sides of a coin' quest and have convinced Aronda [what's her name] the one who wears the amulet to give me the red amulet but I want 'Tyrellius Logellus ' the corrupt gaurd to lead me to the jail but I can't find him. I read this a WT that you can do this.
Also I finally found and killed 'jearl' from main quest. I had already killed her friend 'saveri' but burd doesn't talk to my character about that when I click on spies. He tells me that he's left everything on me. I scored around 80 in disposition game to convince him but he told me the same thing. And the map mark is still on him while the option is greyed out.

EDIT: I just found out in that walkthrough that the 'map pointing to burd' is a bug frown Any idea where I can find Jauffre? Couldn't find him in 'cloud ruler temple' He can't go back to weyn's priory' right?

Jauffre should be at the Cloud Ruler Temple. I remember having trouble finding him since he tends to roam. I believe I did find him just outside the entrance.

Check here for location of the guard:

Pokey, have u had problem makin money in oblivion? I don't know why I can't make enough money frown Any ideas? The houses are so expensive. How would anyone buy houses that expensive. At the moment I only have the waterfront house that costs 2000. I saved all the money to get that. I still can't make that much money...
