Hi Nickie, Rusty and all my old friends!
I've been MIA for quite a while but just got a fantastic gaming machine that should be able to play just about anything that Vista doesn't interfere with and I'm back. smile I hope all is well with everyone.

I've wanted to play this game since it came out and finally have a computer that can do it with everything on full blast! I just started and I'm in the jail cellar after killing the rats and picking up my goodies. I have a key and 13 lockpicks but when I try to use them to get into the subterrainian sewers I get a message saying that I can't equip them. I'm equipped with a shield, kattana (sp?) and a torch but tried putting some of them down and that didn't help. Does anyone know if there's something I'm doing wrong or if I'm just supposed to do something else first? I've only killed rats so far. Maybe I need to find another monster first or use magic first since this part is the tutorial?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hey Melanie,

You don't equip lock picks. If a lock can be picked you just click on it (the lock) and a sort of "mini-game" will pop up that allows you to pick the lock. You shouldn't have to pick any locks to get out to the Imperial Subterrain. Go through the passage that the rats originally broke through after the last battle. Then just follow those passages. You'll hit a couple of mini quests along the way plus a little battle. If you are stuck in the room with the dead goblin shaman, click on him. He has the key that will open the locked door. If you’re already passed that then do like I said and just follow the passages.

Hi Trail Mystic,

I hope you don't get 2 replies, with one half finished. LOL. I typed one and lost it half way. As you can see, my mind isn't working as well as it used to. woozy

I'm in the room with the dead shaman and I have the key. It's been so long since I played that I forgot that the lockpicks and keys automatically come out of your inventory in the elder scrolls! Thanks! I still don't know what I'm doing wrong thogh. I could have sworn that I pressed the 'f' to put down my weapon but when i click the door, I hit it with my sword instead of the key animation starting. I also haven't seen any other enemies except the rats down here. Can you figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Oops, sorry. I missed an action. You don't need to put your weapon down. Just move the curser over the door and the Lock symbol will appear (if the door is locked) and then hit the space bar.

Oh, I didn't try that! I held the key in front of the door expecting the animation to start but it didn't. I'll try just standing in front of the door without the key in my hand and hitting the space bar. I think that's what you mean. If that doesn't work, I'll try holding the key in my hand and hitting the space bar in case that's what you mean.

Off to try again! smile I hope I understand it right now. Thanks again, TM.

PS: WOW! bravo I just realized that Ana's name is red and she's gone sonic!

Thank you, Trail Mystic. The first way worked. All I had to do was stand in front of the door and press the space bar and the key automatically came out of inventory. I don't know how long it would have taken before I finally came on the answer without your help! Onward.....

Hi Melanie, so great to see you! broccoli Hope you have a lot of fun with the game. I think TM knows every nook and cranny of that game. grin

Hi Nickie! devilchili

It's great to see you too. I'm enjoying playing again after not being able to for so long. I still have to take it real slow but now that I have a laptop to play on, it's doable again since I can prop myself to my heart's content. thumbsup

I'm going to pick up where I left off last night now and I'm sure I'll be back soon since I seem to have forgotten everything from Morrowind.

I spent time today downloading necessities like zip utilities and dosbox, etc. There are so many things I need to play my old games on this computer. I want to play Ripper at the same time so will be doing that in dosbox. Since that's an action adventure I guess it will be here rather than the adventure forum that I go when I need help or have you changed anything?

How are Mag and Jenny and Becky & Sue & Ingie? Is everyone still here and well? I need to get over to the adventure side and say hi. smile

It's an available mod (modification) that allows a player to obtain the weapons from Final Fantasy 7 (ff7). I know there is one for Morrowind, but haven't seen the mod for Oblivion.

As far as I can recall, Ripper was an adventure game, but maybe the adventure hints folks will feel differently. I couldn't ever get my computer to run it.
You'll find most everyone still hanging around the adventure forum, and they'll be delighted to see you! They only venture into the darkside occasionally - I think they're afraid they'll want to stay. laugh

Hi Melanie1
I'm playing oblivion! I've been playing it since it came out...how lame is that..that's a long time.

Did you patch your game? It might be a good idea. It stops you from using a couple of cheats BUT it stops one big bug. After you play a long time it can't give a number to the items created by your play and the game just grinds to a halt.

I had that happen and I had to start over. At first I was quite upset but soon I realized I had learned how to play a lot smarter and it became enjoyable to do things in a smart way the second time. Awhile ago I caught up to where I was before and now I'm doing new things. I'm "close" to being done, at least a couple months away I bet.

The hardest thing about playing only one game for a loooong time is you don't get to talk much to other gameboomers as they have all moved on and are playing other games. When ever an Oblivion thread peeks its little head up I jump in and blather madly as you can see. Anyway just to let you know there are people playing here and there.

Oblivion was I think only my 3erd or 4th RPG (DD, Sacred, and I started Marrowind when I heard about oblivion but stopped when I realized how long these kinda of games take...I will go back to Marrowind someday, I hear only good things about it)so I'm learning tons but [blip] a lot of games have come and gone since I started oblivion, I can't wait to try and catch up!

Sorry about the Blip, it was a gentle Blip but I'll remember its a blip from now on.

Hay Nipomo don't be shy about Ob playtime because I'm playing that game for the 3rd time only now on the PS3. And it's difficult for me due to the gamepad as I have to use the 2 sticks at the same time. Karsten and Nickie helped me alot about the "no cheat code thing". Hi All,

Nickie, I'll be sure to go next door and say hi and speak to my fellow adventurers about Ripper. I started to install it when I realized that I didn't have any goodies on this pc yet and needed dosbox, winzip, vesa driver, etc and had to go dl everything. I'm going to play it in dosbox, i think. Inferno's setup requires a lot of switches to resolutions this highend video card is going to hate, so I need to refresh my memory on my dosbox skills first.

Hey Nipomo, I'm glad you're playing too! Thanks for the patch info. I didn't install it yet but will now. I'll go check it out. I'm glad to have someone to talk to. This is only my 4th rpg too. I've played Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Morrowind and now Oblivion but I didn't finish any of them! I keep getting sidetracked but this time I do intend to finish and then go back and finish the others. While you were sticking to it, i
I guess I kept leaving them for the new ones. smile
Edit: I just checked and don't need the patch with the GOTY edition! thumbsup Good to go.

Thanks, Trail Mystic. I have tons of mods for Morrowind. I guess I'll have to start getting some for Oblivion too. I remember really enjoying those.

Thanks for the link, Acolyte.

Acolyte, the site that has the download for the FF7 sword has spyware on it. My programs warned me to close my browser. I won't download it. Thanks anyway though.

Acolyte, thank you so much!!!! These honors don't come by very often, I believe the last one was my divorce. I'm going to email my children -5- four of whom are gamers. Ob on the 3 is truly remarkable and if the game doesn't grab you the music will. There might be Ob music out on disc. You have made my day!

Hi all!

I've been having a great time switching back and forth between Oblivion and Uru. Sorry for disappearing but I got caught up playing. Are you still playing, Nipomo?

I'm lost in Grayrock Cave and can't seem to get out of it. scared Is there a cheat to make exits show up or a walkthru for this area? The ingame map isn't helping me much. Thanks!

I had checked them out before, Nickie but looked again to see if i missed it. Still no luck unfortunately. frown I guess I'm going to spend at least another night in this cave. All the imps probably regenerated by now. lol. I killed them all and a rat twice already and its getting lonely.
