Hi everyone, first of all I love this site. I have gotten on this site almost everyday to see what people are saying since I found this site last fall when I started playing adventure games. I found I love 3rd person click the best. I found out for me 1st person click with panning makes me sick.I already tried all that was posted on this site on this subject. My favorite games I have played are. Syberia 1 and 2, Secret Files Tunguska, Black Mirror and Agatha Christie games. My question is why don't they put on the box if it is 3rd or 1st person click and especially if it pans or not, so I don't waste my money ?

Trinny, welcome to GameBoomers.

Most adventure games being released are in some way discussed here before release and usually those questions are answered. Just search here and chances are it's posted. You can also tell by looking at the screenshots.

I also had the same problem with first person games. When the game is first person on panning i have a problem with it and can't play it. That's what demos are for. See how the game plays on your system and whether you like the game play or not.

Thanks BrownEyedTigre,
In the stores there is hardly any adventure games to choose from that I do know are 3rd person. So if I do find any game at all that looks like it may be 3rd person by the photos I sometimes buy it thats when I have bought the wrong game. I guess Iam going to have to stick to just the games Iam looking for that I find out from this site that are 3rd person.

Thanks Butcher,
I really never thought of downloading a demo to see if it is 3rd person or not.

I much prefer third person point-and-click games and I know what it feels like to buy a game thinking it is third person and then it turns out it isn't. Happened to me when I bought Delaware St. John 1 and 2 in a package deal. From the way the story was explained, plus the title of the game itself, I expected to see Delaware in the game and was looking forward to it, and believe you me, it was a disappointment to me when it turned out to be a first person game! It was an okay game and I did manage to play and finish both, but still I will not play the third one now that I know!

Trinny3, welcome to Gameboomers! I'm with you. I enjoy third person point and click games too. This really is the friendliest site on the net. Have you played The Longest Journey? I also would suggest that you take a look at the annual games recommendation list. Use the very helpful Gameboomers reviews link at the top of the page so you can get game info, screen shots, and best of all a truthful review by a fellow game lover. Your going to love it here.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Hello, i'm also prefer 3rd person games although some games will not work as a 3rd person. For example Darkness within, Ghost in the sheet, Scratches. Those games must create the sense of horror to the player. I don't thing that they would succeed that if there were 3rd person. From the other hand some 3rd person games would not work as 1st for example Syberia, Monkey island, Broken sword. Some 1sr person games are very nice to play and others they make me feel sick. It's about the movement. The most annoying thing for me in 1st person games is the change of screens when you move around. I find it boring. Can't say that i won't be playing a game just because it's 1st person if the game was really good. smile

Trinny3 -- if you are thinking of buying a game and can't figure out if it's first person or third person, post a question about it here at GameBoomers and someone who has played the game will be able to tell you which it is. wave

When I play this type of game I prefer first person because this makes you feel that you are really there immersed in the game. It is how you would view things in real life. Third person view isn't that's more like you are following someone else.

welcome Trinny3. With all the helpful folks here, you shouldn't have any trouble finding the type of game you want.

Thanks to everyone who has been answering my post and the warm welcomes. The advice has been helpful. I'm looking forward to some of the new games that are coming out. I believe most of them are third person. These games are Belief and Betrayal, Diamonds in the Rough, Sinking Island, Dead Mountaineers Hotel, Gray Matter, and Secret Files 2. I can play first person games if there is no paning example Myst but I just don't enjoy them as much. I like to see what the character is doing. It is like watching a book become alive in front of you and you can control somewhat of what happens in the story and sometimes the outcome.

I prefer in first person point click. I also like to 3rd person but i prefer much more in first. Some games in 3rd i really not like: Culpa Innata, Deads Reef, Moment of Silence and others, principally if have control with keyboard.

I MUCH MUCH prefer 1st person- I don't like having to control a "character" in a game - so I always ck screen shots and demos to see which it is before I buy.

I think some games work better in first person and some in third.
I would not have enjoyed the Monkey Island games so much if they'd been in 1st person.
But I think horror games usually work better in 1st person.

Thanks, everyone! Reading this thread I have finally figured out why I prefer third person, point and click games! I don't care for the horror, spooky games (Dark Fall 1 has been called scary, but I just found it boring!) and I'm really not interested in controlling a character. For me, it is more like I am on an adventure with a character I like and I am interested in how the character solves his or her problems in the adventure. Sure, I do the work with grabbing the inventory (I like being a kleptomaniac) and using the clues to get on in the game, but it is more like helping, rather than controlling, the person that I see on the monitor. I enjoy watching the person move and interacting with others, dialogues are fun as well as getting information. In a really good game, I get so involved with the character and the gameplay, I feel sad when the adventure ends!

First person gives tense to the atmosphere of a game, it's like you live through it.
Third person is like reading a book or having a dream or a movie, at least thats how i feel it.
All those are experiences..I dont mind first or third person as long as the experience worth the time i spend. yes

Welcome Trinny!

I prefer first person because I don't like to move a charactor around and I like inventory and puzzle type, and to see the scenery. There are third person games I have liked such as Monkey Islands, Syberia's, Agatha Christie, Alfred Hickcock, Grim Fandango, Broken Sword's, Sam and Max etc. Those game seemed to have a fairly easy way of moving the characters around and the games were interesting and fun. If it is third person and there is alot of action and jumping trying to reach some minute spot, count me out on that game.

Really depends on the game for me.

Horror games definitely are better first person but on the flip side there are games that aren't horror that I don't think would work as well as third person because they are intended to be solitary exploration games (Myst series, AnaCapri, Carol Reed games).

Third person are my favorite there like a book that comes alive before my eyes. Like I said 1st person is ok as long as it doesn't pan. If it pans it ruins the game for me. I haven't played any real horror games. I have checked out some reviews on some of them and found out they were 1st person and didn't buy any of them because I wasn't sure if they panned. The panning makes you spin around I can't take it. From now on if I am interested in a game and the review only says 1st person and doesn't tell you if it pans I will ask you all if it pans if I really want to try it out. Thanks guys for all the info.

Hi Trinny3 welcome To Game Boomers

I agree the developers should print that on the box whether it is a first or third person AG...I believe they print that on Action games....

It does help us sea -sick Adventure gamers to not buy a product if we can't handle it... sick

Surely the whole point of first person is that it's meant to be you yourself doing the walking around, finding objects, solving puzzles and equally applies to role playing games as well. In Oblivion for example you are given the choice of playing first or third but I always play it in first. Third person means it isn't you but someone else that you control, rather like a puppet.
When I am in a game I want to imagine that it is myself in the actual game and not someone else. I do sympathise with those people who feel sick though with the camera.

One other point about 1st person games is that they lack the evolvement with other characters in the game (at least in the games I have played). Though at times 3rd person games can make conversation trees overlong and boring. Its swings and roundabouts, but on the whole I prefer the 3rd person games, and my favourites are all 3rd person.
