Hey everyone.

Im new here. Anyways, here's my problem; I am trying to play Perry Rhodan with a specific resolution. The game keeps starting up in a resolution that takes up my whole screen, which is nice but the game itself looks a bit choppy. And since there is no resolution option in the game or in any of the config files I cannot start it up in a res I want. What I'm wondering is, does anyone know how to mod an exe to have it start up with a specific resolution? I would like it to start up with 800x600 if that is possible. I have a 22" LCD. If any more info is needed please ask and I will be prompt as possible. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! smile

Hello,
I have good news and bad news:
The good news is I can remember having this problem also and finding a solution for it.So there is a solution somewhere within the game.
The bad news is I no longer have the game so I cant go back to find the exact answer for you.
Are you very sure there was no "options" menu? There had to be something there I got into to change things.

Yea I double checked all of the options and there simply is no settings to change the resolution. I even tried snooping around in config files but could not locate anything worthwhile. However I know there's a way to change start up options by modding the exe with commands, but I'm clueless as to what the commands are. :-/

Changing the resolution is not possible with games that use a prerendered background -- not unless the game includes image files for every single resolution it offers. The only game I know that did that was Atlantis 3.

Look for some other option you can turn down, like turning off shadows, turning off antialiasing, turning off filters, turning off animations, turning off visual effects like "glow" or "fog," etc.

I am playing this game now--When I first started It was jumpy and could not control my mouse very well- I went into the options menu-- and changed some things around and it has been fine ever since--
Preset I moved to medium- had it at high-
It also has shadows and anti aliasing-- also I changed my texture detail from Hight to medium--- did not hurt the quality of the picture- just let it run better-- have you played with these options yet??

Here's what I'm talking about. This is the screen I get when I run the game normally.

Normal run of the game

And this is when I mod the exe by right clicking on the icon>properties>shortcut tab>run:maximized.

Modded to maximize1

Modded to maximize2

My system specs are:
evga 8800GTX
intel 2.4 E6600
evga mobo
XP Pro
2 gigs of ram
750w PSU
antec 900
3 sata hdd's
creative x-fi sound card

If you need any more info please advise. smile

Just a suggestion - have you tried to set your desktop to 800x600 manually before launching the game? Sometimes this can affect the screen you play in.

luck Linda

Are you saying you want to run it in a window?

raylin, no I have no tried that. I fear if I do that every time all of my desktop icons are going to be rearranged.

Jenny, No that is not what I am saying. What im asking is if there is a way to run it like you see in the 2nd pic Modded to maximize1 but I want the screen to be in the middle instead of it being in the lower left corner.

I think that would be up to your video card or monitor settings. I don't know why it's putting the image in the corner by default instead of centered.

Until you posted your specs, I didn't realize you had a Geforce 8800 GTX, so I assumed your card was underpowered. Instead it's the other way -- the game's specs only call for a Geforce 3 and your card is much better. Have you tried reducing video acceleration? It won't change the maximization, but it might help with the choppiness.

Jenny, yea I just tried what you suggested it did not help with the choppiness :-/ I guess I'm just stuck with the video being in the lower left corner. Thank you all who tried to help, I appreciate it! smile

This may sound stupid, but have you tried updating DirectX?
Just download to harddrive, and use this everytime a game has installed it's own directX to get back to newest version. smile

Missilio, I always make sure I have the latest dx installed (june 2008). Moreover everything on my pc excluding my video card drivers are up to date. The reason for the video card drivers is because new nvidia drivers after the 169.21 drivers does not allow me to play any of my games for some strange reason. The 169.21 (dec 19th 2007) drivers work perfect with all of my other games and apps however. And whats worse is that Nvidia does not seem to care about anyone who has an older gen nvidia card. I have tried emailing them multiple times complaining about the new drivers, and they never get back with a response. :-/ But I do thank you for the help effort.

I wouldn't call 8800GTX an older card smile
It's still considered "new" and a very good card.

I myself have Geforce 8800GTS with the latest drivers and don't seem to have any problems... weird.

Missilio, which ones are you running? 175.16 (May 16, 2008} ones? If so, does monitor scaling work for you? Nvidia claims to have fixed monitor scaling on the 8k series months ago, but new drivers still do not allow you to change the options via Nvidia control panel. At least for me they dont..

Yep - using 175.16 and yes monitor scaling within the NVidia control panel works.
But hmm, seems a new driver is out - the 175.19
