Benedict, Frogwares has been working on the Awakened Remastered Edition. I tested it and it works great. It should be out this month. If it's a success, I'm sure they'll be using that technique on other games as well since they realize that many folks get motion sickness in 1st person.

Well, I hope the added option does not make each new game shorter as it might take up additional development time, budget and more DVD disk space.

This is exactly why I won't play 3d person games. I've tried but it just seems like I'm watching a movie or TV. I much prefer being immersed in the game and having the freedom to go where I want to go, look where I want to look, and not know what's lurking in the corner. The dread of turning 90 degrees and seeing something incomprehensibly ghastly is the kind of value I look for in games.

Frankly, I couldn't imagine games like Lights Out, Darkfall, Barrow Hill and Shivers as 3rd person games--it would take away way too much suspense IMO.

First person is how I like to write fiction as well. I guess I like thinking that it's happening to *me*.

I prefer third person. I can't identify with a character I can't see. It is after all supposed to be someone else I'm playing not myself.

Do you dream in first person or third person?

Jenny100, what an amazing and thought provoking question. Do you dream in first person or third person? Thinking about it, I dream a lot in 3rd person I see my self doing things and going places, yet some times the dreams are in 1st person. The 1st person are usually nightmares. (I wonder what a doctor would say about that.) Perhaps it means I'm an observer, rather than up close. Therefore I like 3rd person the best but will play either if they have a good story. ie Riddle of the Sphnix, Omega Stone ect.

A certain level of interaction within a game world is not possible with a first person interface. In Tomb Raider games, you can get Lara Croft to perform somersaults, climb walls, and other stunts. This level of satisfaction is not possible with first person games. How are first person games ever going to make you feel that you are accomplishing on olympics level type of stunt? In action games you can see a cool character perform amazing stunts while visiting cool locations. Perhaps adventure gamers do not want to experience the sort of interactivity that such games often include a significant amount of game violence, from killing numerous enemies using different weapons to having the main character die violent deaths that result in sudden game overs. Adventure gamers will not experience the kind of satisfaction that action gamers do, and a certain level of interaction with the game world the Tomb Raider fans do. On the other hand, action gamers will never understand the type of puzzle solving fun that adventure gamers enjoy from figuring out brilliant puzzles involving bizarre contraptions and outrageous inventory items that are common in third person adventure games.

I almost always dream in 3rd person. In the very few first person dreams I can recall, I'm more of a disembodied spirit that can float around -- and if I start spending time watching one particular character in the dream, I usually become that character and it becomes a 3rd person dream.

When I have nightmares they are 3rd person.

Long before I started playing adventure games, I had a dream where you could rewind events to try to get a better outcome -- similar to restoring from a save. Maybe you remember the old joke about the Oscar Mayer Wiener -- this guy gets three wishes. So he wishes he had a brand new luxury car. Then he wishes the car was full of money. He's not sure what to wish for next, so he goes driving down the road in his new car, feeling happy. He turns on the radio and starts singing along to the song that's playing -- and it's that old advertisement --

Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
That is what I truly want to be
'Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
Everyone would be in love with me.

(If anyone is curious, this youtube video has the song at the end
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HAz5Jc0DWpg )

Anyway, this was the scenario the dream was about. The object of the dream (and all the rewinding) was to influence events in the dream so the guy wouldn't get turned into a hotdog. It was surprisingly difficult to accomplish this, because the guy found the darnedest ways of turning into a hotdog.

This wasn't exactly a first person dream, because I wasn't a character in the dream. I was manipulating events (or attempting to). Nor was it a 3rd person dream, because I wasn't the hotdog guy. I think it may have been a 2nd person dream.

I always dream in 1st person, I can look down and see my hands reaching for things and performing various actions.
Perhaps we have an expert in dreams here on Gameboomers. think
I sense things will be going off topic soon rotfl

It would be interesting to know if the way you dream influences the games you play. Nice topic for a research project, anyone?

Well...

I dream in the first person, but my gaming has to be in the third person..I really don't think you can compare sea-sickness in the first person in games to dreams duh

It depends on the game...most of all I'd like all my RPGs to be in old-fashioned isometric 2D-perspective like Black Isle's games were, but since that is not an option these days...I prefer third person.

In shooters however, (which I rarely, if ever play) I must have a first person perspective.

Are they dead? Yes. Unlike you they have but one life...and they wasted it for your sake!

First person is always preferred by me. Sometimes I get distracted by the peculiar manners or images of "me" if I'm playing a third person.

The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....

For me it depends on the game I'm playing. Games like Rhem I like in 1st person but games like Tomb Raider I like in 3rd person.

What distracts me is when a game is mostly 1st person and then suddenly switches to 3rd person for cut scenes: "Huh? Who is that guy? Which is the one I'm supposed to be playing?"
