Anyone have any favorite puzzle games that don't have timers?

I would have to say other than Safecracker, it would be Sherlock Holmes: Mystery of the Persian Carpet.

Big City Adventure San Francisco has a no timer mode. I can click away to my hearts content without those annoying warning signs!

Dream Chronicles 1 & 2 is timer-free (I think, I can't remember now!) Does that fit into your idea of a puzzle game?

Amazon doesn't have a timer.

Not sure... I only notice this feature when a game doesn't give you enough time. Some give you plenty of time so I never had to look for the no timer feature.

I think they're close enough.
They're something like Faradise, aren't they?
(Too bad Faradise (with an F, not a P) isn't available anymore. I'd like to replay it.)

What about that Titanic game that is supposed to be free at the moment? Is that timed?
Azada apparently has a timer that can't be turned off. razz

As long as you can turn the timer off in the game, I'm OK with it.

Is it possible to turn the music off in that game? I checked the ad at youtube, and after hearing the same music in Silver Earring and Sherlock vs Arsene Lupin I'm kind of sick of it (and I never cared for it in the first place).

I always turn the music off of everything. I am sure I turned it off of that one as well.

You can download and try any of them for an hour free. I would really go for the Sherlock one first though. It is a less "casual" one and more adventure puzzler.

I don't know about turning off the music in the game, but I always play Casual games with my computer sound turned off.
I play on my laptop and husband is across the room on his desktop with the stereo going. So unless I need to hear stuff ( when I use head phones) usually on "Real lol" Adventure games , I never have my laptop sound on.

Maybe I am in the minority. wave

Jenny, check out the new game Rooms: The Main Building. The latest download from BFG offers a relaxed mode without timer. It definitely falls into the "puzzle" category.

Maggie, do you mean Dream Chronicles 1 & 2? No, you don't need to redownload them. The game I was referring to a new download was Rooms: The Main Building which just came out this past week.

Jenny, even though Azada is timed, it's 99 cents right now and worth the purchase -- this is the last day of the sale. The timer isn't that bad once you develop a strategy.

Mine was to do the puzzles I was good at first and then tackle the harder ones. Other people have done the opposite by working on the hardest one first and then restarting the level if they thought they were taking too long.

And you can't beat free for Titanic! It is timed and it is not that forgiving with the time but I had a ton of fun with it.

Thanks Lizzie, I'm not sure those really qualify as puzzle games, they are more HOG, then puzzle. But they are good games! happydance

I went ahead and bought that one. My first attempt to buy it failed, and then my first attempt to install it failed, but eventually I got it working. I like the puzzles, but could do without the timer. It certainly has better music than I was expecting.

I tried that one, since it is free and I'd never tried a HOG before. I got really tired of squinting at the screen looking for objects though. A little of that goes a long way and I want more variety.

I looked at the little video of Hidden Expedition: Amazon and it seems to have more puzzle variety than Titanic did. So I may try that one out.

I'm currently considering the following

Dream Chronicles 1 and 2
Forgotten Riddles: The Moonlight Sonatas
Hidden Expedition: Amazon
Rooms: The Main Building
Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet

Maybe Mystery of the Crystal Portal, though I get the impression that it's very short.

I'm not sure about Ravenhurst and Madame Fate. They seem to be mainly HOG's, but have other types of puzzles mixed in. Can you turn off the timer in them? How many "other puzzle types" do they have?

Hidden Expedition Amazon, Ravenhearst and Madame Fate are all mostly HOGs with some puzzles. I can't remember how many puzzles are in each. You can't turn off the timer in Ravenhearst or Madame Fate but the latter, does have a relaxed mode with generous time (can't remember if that's the case for the former).

HOGs are an interesting lot. At first I couldn't stand them, but they grew on me and now I'm hooked.

I think you have to be in the right mood for them.
Alternating with other puzzle types helps a lot.

Which did you like best? Ravenhurst or Madame Fate?
Or did you like them about the same?

You're right that you have to be in the right mood for them. I love them but sometimes I can't play them (am not focussed enough) so then I zone out with a more action-y game.

I definitely liked Madame Fate best out of the MCF series. It's actually my favourite HOG of all time with Amazon coming in second and then probably Ravenhearst 3rd (the door puzzles are awesome but there aren't that many of them).

I liked Madame Fate, my first casual game, but I didn't like Ravenhearst. And I liked Titanic and Everest but not Amazon.

Why didn't you like Amazon?
Isn't that the one that lets you turn off the timer?
