Does anyone know what you call the type of puzzle where you have to slide tiles of various sizes out of the way to free up an exit for one tile? If so, does anyone know of a site that has these?

They are called Slider puzzles.

If you do a search on the web you'll come up with some sites I am sure. luck

Tried that, but the only type of "slider" I can come up with are the picture puzzle types.

Sorry, I am afraid to search most of those free sites because I always end up with a virus. Hopefully someone will be along that knows of one shortly.

I just found a nice on-line game at http://www.gtds.net/Gridlock/ which has 40 levels, quite challenging. If anyone knows of more sites like this I'd love to know. No downloading on this one, BET!

Thanks, Iva, I'll take a look. I've just done the ones in Azada and that made me remember how much I like these types of puzzles.

I've heard them called Klotski puzzles. I like them too but I don't know of any sites to send you to.

I'm curious -- do people who like this type of "klotski" or "gridlock" puzzle also like the more traditional slider puzzles?

I find traditional sliders just plain frustrating, my brain just doesn't work that way. I did a search under "klotski" and came up with several sites, mostly online flash games. So I should be happily engaged for some time to come!

Thanks all.

Hi Jenny,

I like them both, but I prefer the traditional sliders.

Me too, Flotsam.

I always referred to these puzzles as 'traffic jam' puzzles.

Leeana, I agree with you about the Nancy Drew dancing game. I could never do it and had to ask for a saved game to go any further. As they say, different strokes for different folks!

Very interesting, learn something every day. I didn't know that the gridlock/klotski type of puzzles were called sliders, but yes, I can see why they would be. I like these!
I always thought sliders were the ones where only one square is free and it is necessary to line everything up a certain way which was always beyond me, except for some very small ones.

To love is to be happy with!

Thanks!

It's from an old computer game for kids that had several types of 'brainy' puzzles. The blocks were actually shaped like cars!
