I wonder if any of you thought anything about Muder in the Abbey and Dracula 3 in terms of previously aired films.

The Abbey seemed a bit to me like the Name of The Rose, where Sean Connery is a 14th Century monk with a sidekick investigating murders in his abbey, complete with the same evil Inquisitors and physically aberrant monks.

Dracula 3 greatly reminds me of The Ninth Gate, where Johnny Depp
finds a path to the Devil by finding variances in older manuscripts.

Curious if any other cinemtic themes have been seen in games with a simlarly interesting amount of concordance.

Journey to the Center of the Earth, where a modern-day protagonist follows in the footsteps of the original Jules Verne novel. In this case, though, the game came out years before the movie.

The 13th floor where the protagonist jacks into a virtual world where simulated characters develop sentience.

Star wars really reminded me of starwars smile

Seriously, funny you mention "the Ninth Gate", lorduther, for when I first watched it I couldn't stop thinking of Gabriel Knight. smile
He's also a book writer, researching super natural things... having a bookshop I believe... I recall many similarities.

There's definitely definitely definitely no logic to human behaviour.

There is a movie that is almost exactly like GK1 in style - "Angel Heart". The protagonist looks like Gabriel, there is the central theme of voodoo, locations in New Orleans, heart sacrifices, investigation of a trail of murders and more.

@ Becky:the original Journey to the Center of the Earth came out in 1960, well before the game! You probably talk about the remake, but the original one had Pat Boone as leading actor.

@Ascovel:Angel Heart, directed by Alan Parker, got something in common with GK1, as you said, they are both in New Orleans, there is voodoo involved and sacrifices.End of similarity:in Angel Heart the leading character is the "baddie" (even if he realizes that only at the end) and there is even the Devil himself involved in the story.Great Film though!

The Ninth gate is based on the novel of Arturo Pérez Reverte: The Club Dumas.I didn't like the book but enjoyed a lot the film.
I didn't play yet Dracula hence I can't say about the similarities...

Sorry to remark all this...that's my job! lol

Hi Carla -- yes, I meant the recent Journey to the Center of the Earth movie -- the 1960 version had the original characters from the novel in it, not modern protagonists, I think? grin
