Hi- A little while ago I recieved Space Siege, it went on really good, only one disc, which is nice. But want to let you know. As I will start this for help. maggie _________________________________________________________________ Game went on like a breeze, it is also mostly point and click from the first five minutes I played. Easy to understand, although I would love a Strategy Guide as I am stuck at a locked door and do not know what to do. You move with your left click of the mouse and kill with the right one. Easy to see and so far it looks really good. I am far from giving it a grade, but at least I like it so far, not fond of space games, so I hope this one stays inside the space ship. Very easy to save and have lots of save slots, which is good. maggie _________________________________________________________________ Went back on to play and found the map, which is great, but I think with this we will need a strategy guide, ship is huge and so many places to get lost, easy to get killed so am using trainer from cheathappens, as I have died several times. _________________________________________________________________ By the way Gamebanshee has a walkthrough, which looks good.

Thanks Nickie- I have played about a half hour or so of it so far, I did not know there were four ending, thanks DABhand for that information. Yes, I love Caliber's trainers, he is the best I think. So far I have a good assualt rifle and it seems to be killing everything, I have gotten skills and put them on my skill tree. Thanks maggie

Hi, Maggie. Got my copy of this yesterday. Got it up and running . . . eventually, but it gave me a good scare. Turns out that it does install some PhysX software along with the game (if you didn't notice, it's because it doesn't ask you before doing so), and, of course, this started glitching my system right away (seems like my Data Execution Prevention software doesn't recognize it), so I had to bite the bullet and install that PhysX software for GeForce 8 and 9 Series cards that Trail linked us to in the other topic, as well as update my driver (you were right, Trail---no trouble with that like I've had in the past), as well as re-install the game, which I had tried to fix by removing the PhysX stuff that it installed. Anyway, I was able to play through the first 2 levels before I had to call it a day. I think I like it (with the trainer), but I wouldn't call it an action-rpg---it plays like an isometric shooter. Still good for a sci-fi romp, though. Here's an open question for everyone . . . Which do you find scarier---aliens or fantasy-type monsters? I think for me it's aliens. Notice that mundane enemies like rats and wolves and bandits didn't even make it into the question . . .
Bandits: Yeah, we were robbed! Sig: How's it feel?

Sig- Sorry to hear about that, I guess mine caught it or installed it and did not cause any problems. I agree wth you, it is a shooter, not the typical kind, but at least I like it, most of them I do not like at all. As to aliens, give me scary aliens over rats anyday. The Uglier the better and the bigger the better. The baddies in The Chosen are good, some are like aliens, others like wild dogs, but I prefer ugly aliens and creepy ones, if they make me jump in my chair that is a good sign I think. Considering I paid for 5 to 7 day shipping with GoGamer, the game sure came fast to me. Take care and I hope we will both enjoy this game, I am also waiting for the new The Witcher Enhanced. Love some of the baddies in there. Take care maggie

Glad to hear you folks are having fun with it. It sounds like a hybrid shooter/RPG if there is a skill tree. Have any others (party members) joined you or is it a solo run? I'm not a big fan of the isometric views, but this intrigues me... Are you able to change the camera view or is it always from above?

Hi Trail A female has joined me, she is from the medical team I believe. I do not have the PhysX card on my computer unless it is hiding somewhere, thanks for letting us know about us having to have a card on our computer, is there a way I can find out if I have one??? I have not tried to change the camera, I think you can, I have not played it today, I am engrossed with Loki again, but I can move about in the game really easy and have no problem looking just about anywhere. I printed out the walkthrough from Gamebanshee, it is about 40 pages long I would guess, each part seperate, so that is why I am guessing. I would say it is 100% a shooter, just not the typical kind, which I am glad of. I think this is really going to be a good game, my mind is on The Witcher of course, but will be back on Space Siege Sunday. A number of ways to save, I like what I call the save hubs, they are machines you walk into and they save a game, it is good or by using esc. I have killed quite a few aliens, some big and some tiny, lots of stuff to pick up to add to inventory, but I am going to have to learn all that still. There is for sure a skill tree, I have been adding points to it already, easy to use so far. Take care maggie

The "save machines" sounds like an interesting twist. I'm glad to hear that they don't use the dedicated checkpoint save system. I like shooters, but can't stand the checkpoint system that seems to have proliferated across a good percentage of them. -------------------------------------------------------------- I wouldn't get too heavy into the PhysX thing. While some are reporting slow downs with the newest PhysX enabled Nvidia drivers it's heavily dependent on the game being played and the hardware of the gamer. Also if anyone does end up having issues it is possible to turn-off the acceleration through either a "PhysX Properties" link in the start menu or by accessing the same interface in the Control Panel. This link give some more detailed information: TweakGuides Additionally, here is a link to the Nvidia forums on GeForce drivers that can also be checked for further information: Nvidia Drivers Forum I also wouldn't look into purchasing a separate PhysX card. Nvidia releasing the enabled driver is the first step to most likely eliminating them (PhysX cards) all together. It's not surprising that there are reports of performance hits situated right next to gamers also reporting performance increases with the new drivers. It's always a multiple phase process when something like this is released. It just takes a bit of time before better more efficient code is written and or a new component is introduced into the existing hardware (graphics card or motherboard- already in process). -------------------------------------------------------------- We now return you to our regularity scheduled program - Space Seige, the ongoing saga! Sig, Maggie, please keep us up to date on how the game is going

DABhand- Thanks for letting me know, I do have a gamer computer, but not a really expensive one, but I bought it less than a year ago. Since the PhysX is not needed I will not bother asking a price now, do not want sticker shock. Thanks again maggie

Thanks for your input, DAB, but the only reason I downloaded and installed that Nvidia PhysX software for GeForce 8 & 9 Series cards was to un-glitch my system from the Ageia PhysX software that Space Siege automatically installs. In fact, since I don't have that special PhysX card in my machine, I'm not getting any benefit out of this, but I don't care. I don't know what kind of high-falutin', connoisseur in-game physics they're talkin' about with this PhysX stuff, but the physics I'm seeing and hearing in Space Siege seems totally fine and realistic to me. Yeah, there's a skill tree, Trail, but it's essentially a solo run, except for the robot companion that you acquire a few levels into it. The camera view is rotateable and zoomable, like the Dungeon Siege games. Those "save machines" are the Health Modules you can step into at the Aid Stations here and there. They heal you and your robot and do an autosave, which is overwritten in a separate slot from the autosave the game does when you zone between levels. You can also do a manual save if you want, but there's no quicksaving. There's also no conventional inventory or loot system, nor even difficulty settings. Oh, there's also "workbenches" in the Aid Stations, where you do the non-cybernetic upgrades for yourself and your robot. Your cybernetic transplants and the reconstruction of your robot after it's been destroyed are done in these other two contraptions elsewhere. It's fun . . . at least when you're in God Mode and invisible to all the baddies and running around at super-speed it is.

Yes, Maggie, those "save machines" are the Health Modules you step into at the Aid Stations here and there. I use them all. They overwrite in one of the game's autosave slots. It's kind of like a quicksave, except you can only do it at those locations. I'm at the beginning of the Life Support: Atmosphere level, but not sure where that puts me, cuz the GameBanshee walkthrough isn't finished yet. I wonder if they'll have any more pages up by the time I get down there. What do you think of Harvey, the robot companion? I kinda like him, with his flashlight head, the "bucket of bolts" sound effect when he moves, and that curious toe-tapping he does when he's standing still. Have you used his Return ability yet? If not, try it out, cuz, when you hit the key for it, Seth calls to him and he comes running, like an obedient dog.

Sig- The farthest I have got is to the medical center, if you picked up the companion before that I missed it. I have seen several things floating in the air. Wish I understood the gameplay more, that is why I like a Strategy Guide. I will let you know when I find him, when did you find him?? Thanks maggie

Oh, you're right on the verge of "finding" him. Actually, you find him broken, then you find some parts for him, then, when you return to where that gal is, there's a cut scene in which you repair him to working order. They wouldn't let you miss something as major as Harvey. Those small flying saucers here and there are called Sanibots---they do the cleaning aboard the spaceship. As far as I know, they're nothing to worry about. Listen to the recorded messages on all the Data Pads as you come across them. Some are about the Sanibots. One, for example, is some guy admonishing the other crew members to not treat them as pets.

Hi Sig- Then I did pick up him, I wondered what the girl meant by parts, I now have the parts, can you tell me where to repair Harvey? Thanks so much for the information on the others, yes I have listened to some of the information on some of the Data Pads, again thanks for helping me so much. maggie Will be back at the game tomorrow sometime.

If you've picked up the "Broken Hodgson’s Unit" and the "Hodgson’s Parts" (from 2 places on this same level), you just need to return to Gina (on the same level, Medical Center Delta) and a cut scene will ensue, in which Seth repairs him. Okay? Oh, I need to amend what I said about the Sanibots. I didn't know this until the last session because I'm using the invisibility option (so Seth just walked by the Sanibots without incident), but this option doesn't work for Harvey, so the Sanibots attack when they see him (as indicated by some of the Data Pad recordings, the Sanibots and the HR-V personal defense robots have some kind of rivalry going). But these fights aren't tough and the bots drop some upgrade parts for you. I just wish they wouldn't make us destroy them cuz they're neat-looking. Don't you like how they did the "item picking up"? For those that don't know, when you actuate this, Seth stays put and all the upgrade parts and grenades and such that are strewn about in his vicinity are sucked to him and incorporated into what he's carrying, with an appropriate sound effect, of course. Beats running around and clicking on everything to pick it up, that's for sure.

Hi Sig- I fixed Harvey, then got him killed by a bunch who attacked us, but have found another one, is there a way to protect them?? So far, I have the girl, the doctor, the guy that I had to put in a wheelchair and another guy that is good at opening locked doors. Now the main computer has talked to me and Seth has three things to do. But I wanted to ask you, how do I use those thing, bombs and things, at the bottom of my screen, so far have no figured it out? Have added lots more points to my tree and added an eye and an arm which is not human to Seth. I really like the game, but get lost all the time. Got attacked by a bunch of robots, so we had to kill them, also all the men who look human. How do I get a Sanibot to pick up things or my robot??? Thanks so much and will be back on tomorrow, was just playing for about three hours. maggie _________________________________________________________________ I was back on again for another two hours, had to go to the sleep units and do something with three different computer, which seemed to take forever, I like the map, but wish it gave me information, as it is I do understand it, but it just lacks information for someone who is not good at reading maps like me.... Killed lots and lots of baddies, all sizes and really ugly, they have some big orange ones that are hard to kill even with my trainer. My second Harvey is still alive, don't know why. Still cannot figure out how to use bombs and things, picked up a spine that the doctor said I should use, it is not human, but another person has warned me against it, so right now I have not used it, since I cannot take it out. maggie

There's only one Harvey, Maggie---if he gets destroyed and you use a Manufactory, he gets reconstructed as good as new. The Health Module "save machines" in the Aid Stations heal Harvey as well as Seth, but the only way to "resurrect" Harvey is with one of the many Manufactories here and there. If you want to prevent Harvey from getting hurt, activate the trainer's "Harvey Health" option with the Numpad Period key. If you want to play some with just Seth (with the trainer's Invisibility option activated, with the Numpad 9 key), just deactivate Harvey's health cheat and let him get damaged till he's (temporarily) destroyed. The latter, besides being fun, is good for getting more familiar with Seth's abilities that you have assigned to his Quick Key bar at the bottom of the screen. You have to hit the appropriate Quick Key to use an ability---they're labeled (Seth's go from 1 to 0, left to right), but these numbers are too small, if you ask me. The game auto-assigns new abilities to both Seth's and Harvey's Quick Key bars in the next available spot, but you can un-assign these (or any other one) by dragging it off of its bar. To assign an ability that you like to any Quick Bar spot, click-and-drag-and-drop the ability icon from the Abilities display down to the Quick Key spot you want it on. And, in case you're wondering, the Quick Keys for everything are not customizable. Drat! Yeah, the in-game map could be better---it's not rotateable or zoomable or annotateable. They could've at least indicated where elevators are, but no. Of course, if you have print-ups of the GameBanshee maps, that helps, but just try to keep your bearings when you get into a new level, as far as how the different, separately-seen map layers jive with one another and where the elevators are. There's no way to get Harvey or the Sanibots to pick things up---Seth does all of this. Harvey is just there to help defend you (and any escorts), and the Sanibots are just there to attack you, at least after you acquire Harvey. If the boss enemies are taking too long to kill, you can do what I did and add in more skill points and upgrade parts with these trainer options, so you can max out all of Seth's available skills and fully upgrade everything on the Weapons, Armor, and HR-V tabs in the Workbench interface. Now that's what I call some well-balanced gameplay. I went ahead and installed the cybernetic spine, cuz there's a couple skills that require it. Right now, I'm about to get into the Engine Maintenance level. GameBanshee has put a few new pages up since I started. It's looking like they might get the last of it up right before I get to it. Hope so---could be something tricky at the end there.

Hi Sig- Thanks for all the information, I did not know I could heal Harvey, will have to wait till I play another game as it has been so long. I am about ready to go into the officers quarters, found out the head computer has been turning people into machines, so we have him shut down till I can find the permanent shut down for him or change him. Got a key to get into the officer quarter. I hate to ask you to explain again, but I still do not understand how to use bombs and such, how to place them and all. Sorry to be a pest, I know once I learn this I will be fine. Lots and lots of baddies killed and lots of Sanibots trying to kill Seth and his friend, but we have killed them. Yes, I agree on the map, I will have to check Gamebanshee again, have not done that for several days. I really like the game, it is getting around, I do like the tram we use, saves a lot of time. I have the Spine and am going to use it also. You sound like you are enjoying the game like me, my husband had to pull me off the computer so we could go out to eat...... Appreciate any help as far as the bombs and stuff, still stuck with that, does that mean I have to turn my trainer off to use those keys???? Thanks so much maggie _________________________________________________________________ I must be near the end of the game, I have saved the same people again but still looking for one in an engine room I cannot find. Have been at this most of the day and must quit, I am tired and having epilepsy, my seizures are playing havoc with me, have had them for hours now. My doctor had changed my medicine and it does not seem to be working. Still love the game, just wish I could find things easire, that is why I loved the Strategy Guides with their other games. Pilot tried to turn me into a Cyborg, but I got free, but I do believe I am close to the end. The story has asked me if I want to joint Pilot or not and I said no. Have you gotten to that part yet?? Maggie _________________________________________________________________ Hi Sig- I took the game all off, I did not like putting those parts on Seth and I had the worst trouble finding the last, I think engine room with people in it. So I am going to start over. I am finding it an addicting game as I can sit for five or six hours and for me that is really good. Do wish the maps with my eyes were bigger and gave better explaination on things. But that is my only real problem I sure would recommend the game to anyone and so far I give the game a B+ Hugs maggie

Gosh, Maggie, get some rest, girl. And, after you do, look at the manual that came with the game and read the part headed "Health Issues" on the inside front cover---I think they're talkin' about you there. Also read the part on page 8 about customizing your abilities, which tells you how to assign them to Seth's and Harvey's hotkey rows. Quoting the manual from page 4, "To use one of your abilities [or one of Harvey's], simply press the corresponding hotkey button on the keyboard." I should add that this is the only way to actuate them---clicking on them, for example, does nothing. No, don't turn the trainer off---just don't assign any ability of Harvey's to the leftmost spot (the F1 key) on his hotkey bar, because that might deactivate the trainer. Actually, while Seth has a number of good abilities, I've only found 2 useful for Harvey so far---these are Return, for when he seems to be daydreaming 20 paces behind you, and Electroburst, which is good when he gets surrounded. You'll want to try out the different abilities to see which ones you like and for what situations. This is probably the game in which I've thrown the most grenades (there's several types of these, and you can carry a lot of them, and they're not just good against enemies, but also good for blowing up crates and for clearing mine fields), and also the game in which I've had the most fun blowing stuff up, with all the combustible objects they littered the levels with. How 'bout those cylinders that careen through the air with a smoke trail and the whistle and pop of a firework? Now that's just fun. And, if you toss an Impact Grenade or shoot the Frag Rifle into a cartload of them . . . you guessed it. Let's see . . . what else? You don't have to worry about healing Harvey if you're using the trainer option for his health---that's for the poor souls trying to play this game straight. Just turn off his health cheat if you want him to get destroyed so you can play some with just Seth (with the "Alien Mind Warp"/Invisibility option on), and, if you want him back later on, reconstruct him in any of the Manufactories. Boy, you really whiz through these games---you passed me up like I was standing still. I'm at the Aid Station at the beginning of the Astrogation level. And listen to your husband . . . eating's important, too. And don't let the names of some of those abilities confuse you. For example, one is called Fire Trap and lets you make these, but you don't place them like the name implies, you just toss them like an incendiary grenade with a proximity detonator. It cracks me up to lob one of these into a group of cyber guys and see them run around on fire looking for Seth (who would be in plain sight if he wasn't invisible to them), while they shout things like "Don't let him get away!" and "You will not defeat us!" and "I want his arm!"

Sig- Thanks and yes, I always read the part on the front about me. No, it is not that causing the problem, my Neurologist changed my medicine a few weeks ago and it is playing havoc with me, I called and left a message today and if I have anymore problems, I am allowed to walk in as an emergancy patient to see him, as he knows I never do it unless it is vital. Thanks for all the information, expecially on page 4, I think I just went to fast, which is unlike me, normally I like to take my time and enjoy a game and that was another reason why I took it off and the fact of I want Seth all human. Yes, I love the way those cylindes explode, I have exploded them many times to make a path through to where I am going, I think they are great.I am going to use the option for Harvey when I start again, which will not be till tomorrow, tonight I am resting, and just had a big supper. Tell me something, how do I throw a grenade, do I just toss it or do I use a key, I am not sure. Hope I did not ruin the game for you going so fast sometimes it is hard to stop, I knew yesterday I was in health trouble, but would not stop, at the age of 61 I sure know better and will not do that again. I will stick to two hours at a time, that is better for me. Thanks so much for your help, I would be lost without you, checked for a Strategy Guide, but none out yet, hope so soon. I really like the trainer and I use it all the time, this time I will with Harvey, I want to keep him. The others are okey, but not the same somehow. Thanks and Hugs maggie _________________________________________________________________ Sig I have read the part on page eight and I understand dragging, but how do I know what key to drag it too, I am confused??? Thanks maggie Hi I played a half hour of the new game and got Harvey back quick and used the trainer to save him. maggie

That's fine, Maggie---I'm gonna keep Seth all-human when I get around to replaying it, but I wanted to do all the cybernetic transplants in the first playthrough, to see what they're like, to have the most skills and be able to use the most weapons, and to see the "cybernetic ending" of the game. I'm glad that all the transplants haven't altered Seth's good-guy personality, though. Yes, to throw a grenade, put the pointer where you'd like him to toss it, then tap the key that this grenade-type is assigned to on Seth's Quick Key bar at the bottom-center of the screen. This assumes he's not out of them, but he can carry 51 Impact Grenades, and that's just one of about 10 types of special weapons he can carry. This guy is loaded for bear. Not all abilities need a targeting assist like this---you'll see what's what when you start using these. If you hit the key for his Gun Sentry ability, for example, he just sets one up next to himself. I know you like the game already, but I bet you'll double the fun factor when you get hip to using his abilities. Some of them are quite good. I predict you'll love his Combat Drones---they're adorable. BTW, it's prudent to top off all of his goodies at the Aid Station workbenches before stepping into the "heal and save" machines there. No, you didn't "ruin the game" for me by passing me up ---I'm having a swell time. I was just commenting on that---we're not having a race or anything. And I agree that "sometimes it's hard to stop." I'm having that happen every night with this game, myself. Oh, just read your edit . . . You assign abilities to whichever Quick Key spots you want them on---it's up to you. Okay? I'm at the first Aid Station in the Shuttle Bay level. Gonna head back to it now. Toodles.
