Hi. I was wondering if there's something that can be done to get Journeyman Project 3 work better sound-wise. My sound is pretty bad.

Maybe reduce audio acceleration?
What are the specs of the computer you're playing it on?
What operating system? XP? Vista? Win 98?
Are you using Virtual PC?
Are you using Compatibility Mode?

I should know this by now. I apologize Jenny. I'm on a P4 XP, no virtual PC. and I didn't try audio acceleration because I never even thought about audio acceleration! I'll give that a try and get back to you if I need to. Thank you.

I'm not horning in here, I forgot to sign in; I should know this by now, and I apologize, Jenny. I'm on a P4 XP, no virtual PC.
I'm sure it's a sound problem. There are sounds like rice crispies on overdrive, but at first it seems like I can just take it and go on happy to play the game again. THEN the mouths and voices get out of synch. To add to the problem, Arthur starts to sound syrupy ( a little slowed down) when he comes in. It's bad. It seems to change from slightly fast to too slow all with added rice crispiness. I think what I thought was audio acceleration wasn't. Can you please tell me exactly how to do 'audio acceleration' or decelation? I'm not sure which I need or how to perform it/them. Once again, thank you.

BubbaJake,

I just looked at my notes on this game and retested the sound quality on my WinXP Audigy2 system.

Reduce your audio hardware acceleration to Basic; two clicks down. When I do that, there is no static in the audio. You can use either DxDiag or your systray speaker icon to reach a panel to reduce acceleration.

If those instructions aren't specific enough for you, from ***Inferno's page***
Quote:
For the Sound: Start--> Run--> Type: DXDIAG--> up comes your DirectX Control Panel. Let it load and then select Sound. Move the slider as you wish to achieve the effect or correct the problems with your game.

Thank BOTH of you! I really want to replay the game, and while the video portion runs very well, I kept having the voices get way out of synch then kinda get back in line while the crunchy audio part made understanding what was being said (synchronized or not) at times almost impossible. I also had trouble getting Direct X loaded. It kept failing and so I just left it off. I don't know if the game likes direct X 9 (already on the PC).

Don't try to install the old version of DirectX that came with Legacy of Time. That DirectX was only for Windows 95/98.

Hi. I tried your instructions and THEY WORKED! Thank you both so much. The sound is much smoother and there is no strangeness with the speech. When the voices stop, the mouths stop (and vice-versa). This has been the most intense class ever.

Hi. Still an excellent learning experience, and I appreciate it. It didn't work. The sound is much better (although wildly out of synch during the Cyrollan/Gage ship part) but improves a lot later.
I've moved the Direct X slider from 1-4. I get the best sound on 4, but a very unstable gaming experience, it crashed once and the next time I found the voices ALL out of synch, but no crunchiness. Thank you very much for your time and effort.
