This is a tricky part of the game, but you can do it.

I got through it after several tries. Now I have another problem. I am using the WT by MAG. I am at the Aston Theater. I have talked to all the people and I have been to the door at the top of the stairs backstage. Once in the room the WT says to take the 2 items in front of the box on the floor. (I didn't see these in inventory.) Then it says to take the silver earring from inventory and click it on left of silver wave. I'm assuming the silver wave is on the side of the box. Then it says I need two other things. Then the WT says to go to Doris's room and click on Doris and holmes says "I cannot take her earring." Then it says to go to the Audience Hall and show one of my hints, the silver earring, to Miss Carolyn and she will give her silver earring and Doris's silver earring to Holmes. I have did this but she doesn't give me the earrings, at least they didn't show up in inventory. What have I missed? Thank you for your help.

There should be 2 items blocking the chest on the floor by left wall. You should see that box first, see the wave and place the silver earring on the wave part.
You then would know you need another silver earring.
Then you can try to do the other part.

I went back and tried it again. I picked up the two items in front of the box, then tried the silver earring on the wave. Then I go see Doris and I go to the Audience Hall and show one of my hints to Miss Carolyn. I get the silver earring and then click on Carolyn but she does not give me the earring and there is no converstion about it. What am I missing?

In the costume room, did you click on the closet and note that an artillery costume is missing?

Also try speaking to everyone you can find to see if they have anything new to say, before returning to Miss Carolyn.

yes, I clicked on the closet and noted that an artillery costume was missing but I'm not at that spot in the game. I just cannot get the other two earrings into my inventory from carolyn. I have talked to everyone but will talk to everyone again before I talk to Carolyn again. I will let you know how I do. Thank you for your help.

Sometimes an action taken in a different part of the game will trigger something somewhere else. Always good to check, since Miss Carolyn is being so uncooperative about the earrings.

Did Holmes make any comment after you put the one earring onto the box?

When I put the earring on the wave Sherlock says "I need something." Then I go to Doris and click on her and Sherlock says "I cannot take her earring." Then when I take the silver earring from inventory and click on Caroline she says "what else can I tell you?" I was thinking there was something I didn't read in the notebook that may be a problem so I went through everything and read it. Something just isn't triggering Carolyn to give me the earrings. This is so frustrating. If I don't figure it out soon, I will start again at the beginning of Aston Theater. This is so frustrating. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your help.

Just a thought - do you climb the stage when you talk to the actress or are you downstairs?
You need to be close to her so that she can give you the earring.

I was not on stage when I talked to her either time. Maybe that is it. THANK YOU MAG. I will try that and let you know how I do.

I cannot recall standing on the stage. I do recall not being able to move forward until I spoke more to Doris- the passed out lady- and showing her the earring first?
Not sure if that is your problem but something to try.

I can't get on stage as hard as I try. I talked to Doris before showing the earring to Carolyn but I did not show the earring to Doris. I will try that and let you know what I find out. Thank you for your help.

Try it by coming out of the door from Doris and not by the side of the stage. See if that works.
Can you not climb the stairs to the stage?
I don't think starting Aston Theatre would change it.
I know that the ickiness is the approach to her.

I have tried to climb the stairs but I'm unable to do it. I even went to the other side of the stage and tried those stairs. I will try to go on stage through one of Doris's doors. I know I need to get closer to Carolyn somehow. I will let you know how I do. Thank you for your help.

Maybe try also after exiting that door from Doris and seeing her on stage.
Click on her or click the earring on her or talk to that young man.

I did those things too. She sure is stingy with those earrings. I even went back and redid Aston Theater and as you said, it didn't make any difference but I had to try. Maybe if you have a SAVE you could send me that would put us out of our misery. I got through the dog and the fire but I can't get a couple of earrings. Thank you for your help.

I sent you 2 saves. I think the other one is where the stage-earring part is happening.

MAG, when I clicked on Carolyn with the earring, she gave me the same response as before and would not give me the earrings. I checked the inventory and the earrings were not there. Save 0042 is out in the hallway but I didn't see any earrings in inventory. Do you have a SAVE just after you get the earrings from Carolyn? Thank you for your help.
