Jenny
YEs, administrative privilages. He's the only one on his computer. And, all other games work on his computer as well as mine. I installed to whatever the defaut is. I didnt see the install and he has since taken it off his computer. Sorry. I agree about micorsoft's update stuff. In the past, problems have arisen and we've taken care of it.

Thanks, Jenny. I am truly beginning to think it's a software problem. When researching on the internet, others have had problems, nowever, not like our's. We have an independent anti-virus program (we both have it on our separate computers) that does not run in the background. We run manually every few days. Windows Firewall was shut off when I installed the program, hoping that would cure it. It didn't. I doubt seriously that his computer firwall also interfered.

It's funny how we both have a different problem.Hmm razz

Oh, he must have had it in program files. It was there when he uninstalled it. For me, it didn't appear anywhere except as shortcut on desktop. Didn't appear in add/remove at all...which is wrong LOL.

It seems the anti-virus program is the common denominator on both computers. What program are you using? Even on-line virus checkers install processes that can intervene with other programs.

We are using Malware Bytes...a download. It is not running at all unless we open it. Uninstalling it wouldn't change anything. Why would this particular program be made to not work when all others do?

There is no way to "turn off" Malware Bytes unless it's actually uninstalled from our computers. How could that make a difference? Anyway, it's not worth taking off this great anti virus program off.

Not too long ago, my husbands computer was infected so bad, even Malware Bytes wouldn't run to get rid of it. Through a lot research and posting on help forums, he finally was able to get rid of it so Malware Bytes could work again to clean it up. This program is very valuable.

Anyway, we will try to install to My Documents this evening. BTW, I even put all three disks on my hard drive and installed it that way. Same problem...which leads me to believe maybe all files are not on the disks? Don't know if that's even possible.

Thanks so much, Bernard!

Malware Bytes is not really an anti virus program, Cissy. It merely checks for add-ware programs. When you do a reboot of your computer and press Ctrl-Alt-Delete, check how many progresses are running and if there are processes with names that don't seem to belong there. Please post your findings!

Yes, Malware Bytes does do that, but it find and extracate a bad virus hubby had on his computer. Malware Bytes did more than find ad ware. It was the only program that got rid of a very nasty worm/trojan/whatever. Anyway......

I checked my processes. Most are very familiar to me and I know what they are. Several stood out I hadn't seen before so I googled them. BTW,I used this great website to tell what the different processes are, etc. http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm.

Ok, these are the ones I found that were not familiar to me:
mDNResponder.exe - iTunes
aaCenter.exe - my ASUS motherboard
PWSave.exe - information sketchy. says not sure of this one ??
PSIService.exe - Paint Shop Pro
searchindexer.exe - desktop search function/windows.
Rundll32.exe - windows OK, not the virus one smile

With the exception of PWSave.exe, I am comfortable with them in my processes/task. This is my computer, not my husband's.

PWSave.exe is fishy. Click start->execute and enter msconfig. Click OK, choose the tab start-up and see if you can find the program there, if it's there un-check it. Reboot the PC.

Actually, I did that first before going to my processes just to send any thing fishy there. Let me check again BRB

Ok, found it in startup. I looked to see what it is...it's part of my ASUS motherboard. I am leaving it checked. Thanks! I meant to add that I got this motherboard not long ago. That's wny startup items and processes associated with it didn't look familiar to me.

You mentioned mDNResponder.exe, are you sure it's not mDNSResponder.exe?

That's strange, the iTunes file is named mDNSResponder.exe, including the S. headscratch

***update**** Reinstalled Abbey on husband's computer, this time putting in My Documents instead of Program Files. It worked...saves, loads and all.

I'll try my computer the same way although, I did do that when I put the files on my hard drive instead of installing through the disks themselves.

Thanks Jenny, Bernard, and Cathy1 for all the help. I installed it on my computer in My Documents like my husband did. No dice. Same problem for me.

Kind people, I am giving up on this particular game. Maybe one day I play it on the spare computer in the garage but not until it warms up! LOL. Back on the games shelf for now. I have gone through a 25 minute install too many times. hardwall

Over and out LOL

Cissy, one last try. smile
If you have an on-board video card, change its settings to a larger amount of video memory.
Your husband had to install the game into 'My Documents' to get it working? It means he was not logged in as administrator or ..., if he was, there's something wrong with the OS. These kind of oddities can happen using Vista, but with XP?

Bernard, darlinnkkk lol
I guess I am not understanding "not logged on as adminstrator". It's his computer, he purchased the OS. What does one have to do to be his own administrator of his OS?

And, the biggest burning question of all is...........why, oh why would someone have to change to change memory to a larger amount with this game, and this game only. All of my other games, and I have a ton, I do not have to change a thing.

Anyway, I will try that .. perhaps tomorrow. And I promise to get back to you idea LOL.

Thanks! Oh, could you answer about being logged on as administrator, please?

Cissy dearest, smile
the more recent a game is, the more it's using all the system resources. The video card is using the memory to render the animated scenes in the game.
As for the Administrator question, once you log-in as administrator you can almost install and change everything you want on XP (even things that will make XP to crash!!! so be aware).
Go to Start->Configuration Screen=>users, check if there are other accounts listed.

Cissy, dear honeybuns, grin
You have to change the memory setting for the video card in the BIOS settings, press the 'Delete' key when the computer is starting up and you will get into the BIOS settings menu. Find the settings for the video processor and add more memory space to it. Good luck cutie! smile

Barnyard? Don't fence me in! puppy

Buttercups, even if you do have an on-board video processor, its type will not be mentioned in the BIOS settings. The PC you are using, is it a laptop or a desktop? Do you know the the motherboard's type? (I do know it's Asus).
