I no longer can play Shivers because of Vista. I loved that game because it was interesting, yet it didn't have you go in odd directions to solve problems. Any suggestions as to a comparable game that I might like? Thanks

Azada has puzzles that are similar -- most are not as difficult as in Shivers though. Safecracker 2006 also had good puzzles.

Perhaps a more "useful" sort of puzzle would be figuring out how to get Virtual PC going on your Vista -- so you could replay Shivers on a virtual machine inside of Virtual PC.

There's a Windows installer available for Shivers 2 now so you can play it on Vista. I believe this installer works for the original Shivers, as well:

SHIVERS WINDOWS INSTALLER

Thank you for the suggestion. I am not familiar with Azada and will do so now. Thanks again!

Hi musicgirl...Shivers 1 is a classic in my opionion. One of the best non-cartoon adventure games. Shivers 2 is also good but not quite as good in my opinion. I've been looking for Shivers 1 to replay but I have not been able to find it at a reasonable price. You might try some other older Sierra games...Phantasmagoria comes to mind also the later Gabriel Knight games, but they might not play on Vista unless that windows installer works for you. Cheers, Sky.

I think I see the clue,
but is it one, or is it two?
I'll just move this one here,
dang the answer isn't clear!
Oh geeez now what do I do?

Hi Sky wave Haven't talked to you for awhile. Just wanted to let you know that I see Shivers all the time at the thrift stores for about $2. If you like I'll keep my eyes peeled and pick one up for you, my treat.

Shivers 2 works in XP in the 'Windows NT4' compability mode; it may work in Windows 2000 as well. You could try this with Shivers 1, too.

"In Pursuit of Loath Nolder" is a horror game, too, I think?
Overclocked is a game you might like, too.

Sure you can - assuming you have an installable Windows 9.x disk and Virtual PC (or VMware Player).

Shivers I (Fullscreen VM)
Shivers II (Windowed VM)

You can find the virtualization software below: (both are free)

Microsoft Virtual PC
VMware Player

JennyP, I have located a few people on the Sierra forums who are running Shivers on Windows Vista. If I get more info, I will post in Glitches, Bugs and Patches (I was indeed pretty sure that people were running it in Vista, before I posted what I did). smile

Hi Sky,

I did have a couple of the Gabriel Knight games and really enjoyed playing them. I did pick up a copy of Shivers I a couple years ago, to replace the one I had before. It's just frustrating that I can't get it to work.

Thanks
