I don't know "windows explorer" and I can't seem to find it on my computer. point me and I'll look>.....2nd edit, you don't mean the browser itself, do you?
I have tried looking for setup and exe files and tried to make the CPU look...but, I think, not very effectively. I know not, what I am doing.

Here's one way to find Windows Explorer: http://pcvet.org/Oakfield/Maintenance/WheresWindows.htmIf you have a "My Computer" icon on your desktop, you can use that. I have tried looking for setup and exe files and tried to make the CPU look...but, I think, not very effectively. I know not, what I am doing. Do you see a drive letter for your DVD drive when you open Windows Explorer? Do you see any files on it when you double-click this drive letter?

Windows Explorer is pretty much my second desktop. I do most of my stuff from maintaining files to operating programs from there. I made an icon for it but the quick way to find it on XP is ---- Start>Programs>Accessories. Windows Explorer is usually listed in the drop down box in the accessories panel.
I run mine in the "classic" mode using list and details without those freaking thumbnails. At a glance I can determine the file type, size, date installed and date modified along with much more if I choose. It makes it easy to determine much of what is on your pc and where those pesky programs are installed. Tired of media player opening every time you play a song and prefer to use a simple program instead? Windows Explorer is where you can change that file association. When you use the uninstall tool to remove something, look in Windows Explorer and see uninstall left a lot of junk behind. You can then delete the excess program files safely after uninstall. Great and useful tool.

Hi OM and Jenny, I have found Windows explorer and poked around my "D" drive, there are no Ceville files whatsoever. The DVD is not reading the disc at all. It just revvs up a bit for a few minutes than goes back to sleep. It does play other games, and it installed Art of Murder just fine. I don't get it. Thanks for trying to help me.

gaily, can you read other DVD disks? It may be that the drive ist kaput. DVD drives have two lasers, one to read DVD and one to read CD. If you no longer can read DVD disks, then the DVD laser is out of alignment. If you can read DVD disks, then you have a bad game disk. It does happen.

gaily, I installed on Vista and it took forever and I couldn't see any progress anywhere. I just left it, could see the DVD drive light on, not flashing, and could hear the disk spinning. Just about to give up when it started to load and that took forever as well. It finally finished loading and I am enjoying it. Try it again and read a book while you wait . Good luck.

You may have to reboot your computer after installing the patch. Or start a new game. Not sure. What are your computer specs ?

OK, Here's how desperate I was to figure out what the deal is with this game and my computer: I bought the game DVD from Interact....As I posted before, the game would not even engage my DVD drive. Just to see, I plopped down another 40 bucks to the Adventure shop and spent much of the day downloading the very same game. (My bad was to just start downloading without waiting for what seemed to be a very helpful email about the "free game manager" which I did install and used to install (for the 2nd time) that I installed all three lengthy downloads. I specify the file: (approximately)gail\users\documents\ceville it downloads and installs with the manager at last. Install complete, click on desktop icon: error message from windows: "Ceville has stopped working." (Never started) So now I have purchased both the DVD and the Download for this game, I have Vista,Is there a problem with my computer?
The patch does not seem to address my particular issue....no game at all.

I have a Dell XPS 420 3.5 GB dual core processor running Vista Home Premium with an Nvida Geforce 8600 GTS. Is that enough info?
P.S. I turned off my firewall and spyware scanner and clicked on the desktop icon for Ceville and received the same error message from Windows. also the game install manager reports that the downloads were successful.

The Geforce 8600 GTS should be fine, as long as the drivers work with the game. I don't know which drivers would be best for the game with that video card, but if you haven't updated them recently you might try that. You can "roll back" to the original drivers with Device Manager if updating the drivers doesn't work. Also, if you've reduced video acceleration for another game, turn it back up for Ceville.
Did this game (or any other game) install DirectX 9.0c on your computer? Vista comes with DirectX 10, but it isn't backwards compatible, so you need DirectX 9.0c installed too. I would think that another game would have already installed it, but it might be worth checking.
Ceville requires 1 GB of system RAM as a minimum, but I assume that is for XP. Vista would need more, but usually the XPS 420 comes with at least 2 GB of system RAM, which should be enough.
What antivirus do you use? Does it have a log that you can check to see if it blocked any part of the game installation? If it kept the game installer from changing the registry, that could be why the game isn't running.

I let the game install direct X 9.0 and I unchecked the "integrity" check from the download manager after it balked about the "unknown registry" the first time I tried to install the game. It ran smoothly after that. My security system is "CA Security Center" I will check to see if I can find a log. I did not manually turn it off during the download, but after the fact when I turned it off to try to run the game I had the same results...nothing. I have had similar problems trying to run The Longest Journey both with the DVD and the download....I have no idea if that is relevant. Thank you for trying to help me, Jenny. This has been very frustrating .

Oh dear I have this same problem. Running vista as well and I just can't get the setup to run successfully. I wait and the pc just crashes. It is very annoying, I'm sure I have good enough specs to get on it I'm playing still life 2 fine and that is supposed to be higher specs than ceville. Getting frustrated I've never had a problem installing a game before even on the old pc things would install but then just wouldn't play lol.
