Hi, I've just begun and seem to be stuck already. I've seen the opening dialogue and have picked up the map, and read the paper. I've also seen the murder of Polly, now, though Watson is back at Baker St. and I can't get him to go anywhere. I click on the Whitechapel area on the map, but it doesn't indicate where the police station is, and I can't go anywhere. How do I get to the police station, and Whitechapel?

Have you checked everything in the apartment and read all documents and notes?

Hi, I thought I posted earlier, but can't find it.
Have just begun-opening dialogue, have map, read paper, seen the murder. Now, back, as Watson at Baker St. Can't go anywhere. The WT say to go to the police station at Whitechapel, but although I can click on the map, I don't see the station, and have no idea how to get there. Help!

Hi gillann,

I merged your two threads.

Have you clicked on the Whitechapel area on the map? That should take you to a street map of the area, and the police station will be labelled there.

It is fun, also, to spend some time walking (running, I prefer, by hitting the CAPS LOCK button) around Whitechapel and getting to know where everything is relationally. It will help and the visuals are great!

I also prefer first person (CTRL key toggles between 1st and 3rd) because you can just click and hold the left mouse key to move around...sliding the mouse left or right to change direction. 3rd person is tricky in my opinion.

HI all, I went back and started over. Same results. I have the map, clicked on Whitechapel, which is mostly outlined in red, but there is no police station showing, and I can't click on anything to go anywhere. Holmes is out of the room changing, or something, but he again asked Watson to find the Whitechapel site, etc. How can I investigate Whitechapel, if I can't get there? I'm missing something, as usual! Any ideas?

Gillann,

Try these 2:
1. Open the map. Click on the whitechapel label at top right of the page OR click on white chapel area in the map itself.
2. Go to the wall - maybe above the sofa. Look for the map and click on it.

Are you sure, as Watson, you have picked up the map gillan? It's laying on a desk on the right side of the room (looking towards the window)

Once you've picked it up you need to right click & go to the inventory at the bottom & click on the map option then the area circled which is Whitechapel. Within it there should be a small highlighted 'dot' which you click on and end up just outside the police atation. Hope this is of some help! smile

EDIT Sorry Mag! I take so long to post you weren't there when I started but hopefully two heads are better than one! laugh

HI, Chrissie, you nailed it. I had the map, but forgot to click it in inventory. As soon as I did that, I saw the area circled, and have moved on. I've had similar problems in other Sherlock games, so it's just me! Forgot to do something really simple.
Thanks, everyone!

Is there some trick to navigate in this game? I`m wandering about aimlessly trying to find some boarding house for the policeman. I cant even remember what it is I am supposed to get for him its been so long. All these streets and sidestreets all look the same to me. I havent a clue where I`m going. Although I seem to have stumbled on a murder scene but Holmes doesnt want to go there yet.

mj2c,

That is good that you walked around the area already, you can get a feel of the place now.
Each street has a nameplate at one of the walls (both ends).
Once you have been at a place, it will show up in the map and can jump to to that place.

As for the boarding house, follow the directions given by the policeman - Humphries.
Go back to the police station, go forward to Commercial St (main street). Turn right on third person or left on first person. Forward and then left on the first side alley. It will be on Holmes' left. Turn left again to the first small alley.

MJ, yes, once you get to the bording house area and talk to the guy sweeping the area you'll have a new green dot on your map making it easy to get there. But, it is not far from the police station. The only confusing thing, I think, is using the 3rd person tools. I prefer the first person.

Let us know how you do.

Yes I use the third person view - the other one knocks me sick. I do remember (I think:-)) the policeman saying something about two left turns but when I looked at the map that wasnt possible so I just started wandering about. I`ll give it another go tonight.

Thanks to you and Mag for your replies.

It's a very good game. Once you get used to the game manipulation, hopefully you'll enjoy the game.

Like dadguy, I'm a first person gamer.

Hi MaG, I too, am having a bit of a difficult time manuevering around. After the clinic, the WT says to walk across the street to the church. Well, I can walk across the street, and see part of the church, but can't get in. There's someone sitting out in front, but I can't find a way in, and don't see a gate.

If I'm on the right track here, you are trying to find the Captain to give him medicine? Once you've found the church you just need to wander around a little in the vicinity until you hear him coughing, I think? smile N.B. Switching to 1st person for a short while might help if you are not already playing in that mode!

gillann, it isn't possible to enter the church grounds, you'll only be able to get as far as the gate/entrance itself. Look at the church door and you'll get a magnifying glass cursor - click on that and Holmes will comment. That's all you need do in this area. smile

Well I eventually found the boarding house but now I`m doing the same aimlessly wondering about trying to find the captain. Ive spoken to his daughter/granddaughter (cant remember) and the street urchin but still nothing. Ive enjoyed the other Holmes game Ive played but I`m finding this one a bit of a struggle. Good job I wasnt born a pigeon:-)

mj,

Did the street urchin not tell you where the captain is located? He should.
Then walk down that street to the end and see the captain lying down.

mj, there's a side road almost opposite to the building where Lucy was looking out of the window. The street urchin was standing on the corner of that street. Follow the side street down to the end and you'll hear the coughing of the captain. luck

HI, At the rate I'm going, this is going to be a very lo-oong game. I'm still at the church. Have found the captain, been to the clinic, have the meds. I exited the clinic, crossed the street and turned right. There's a woman in front of the church, but I have "nothing to ask" her, and I can't see a gate to the church, nor a door, nor a clock. I can't get any closer than the woman. What am I missing, now?

gillann, there are one or more people sitting on the ground outside the entrance to the church - it is on the opposite side of the road from the clinic, a little way over to the right. There is no gate as such, just an entryway with a stone post on either side. The church door is directly in front of you then - you can't enter the yard, but you are able to click on the door, and Holmes will comment.
